JTAC in KTO campaigns
-
I have flown the JTAC training mission many times and am really enjoying using a JTAC for CAS. BTW, I really appreciate the excellent job done by those who wrote the CAS Intro and the 12 steps of CAS.
I rarely have seen the AI plan/frag a CAS/oncall CAS/preplan CAS type of mission.
Is there a way to fly a CAS with JTAC using the missions already planned by the computer? I tried moving a STPT close to a enemy icon on the planning map, with friendly forces nearby. But the distance between was more than 6 miles, but under 10 miles. JTAC did not respond when I arrived at the STPT.
From what I have read, maybe I should try to plan a completely new package. I have never done this, so any advice? -
For fragging a package, the User Manual section 9.4.3 has a very good example.
You just made me think that it would be nice if the waypoint restriction for CAS was lifted, or made more flexible. That would give more opportunity to do CAS in dynamic scenarios such as campaigns. AWACS/JSTAR should be able to reach out to jets and vector them to troops in need of CAS if you are reasonably close, regardless of steerpoint. If you have proper ordinance you should then be able to take on the task.

@huffer2 Free yourself from the bonds of the ATO. Learn the ways of the Forc… wait wrong topic. Jump in with both feet and become the commander of your squad. Take control of what you want to do. Where you concentrate your efforts. Don’t spend another minute working feverishly to adjust that stupid AI generated suicide mission.

Thats a GREAT response. I will work on this.
Today I did make my first attempt at planning a mission. I started with a saved mission on the 2day. My ATO was set at Seosan AB. I looked at the map and could see a concentration of friendly and enemy units near the front line NE of Seosan. I clicked on a enemy tank icon and made a new package, and choose to fly with another f16 squadron from Gunsan AB. Choose a preplan CAS. Joined the squadron. Pretty Kool how I am now at Gunsan. Long story/short, flew the mission with my Wingman, and as I got closer to the attack STPT5 and 6, I was able to contact a JTAC. What a blast! We both managed to hit a tank each, but we got jumped by 4 Mig29s. Now I want to refly this mission, but I will try to figure out how to add a flight 0f 4-F16s to cover our asses with ESCORT.
Thanks for the responses from Jayb and QuasiSteller -
@huffer2 great stuff!! a quick word of advice, if you don’t mind. If you need supporting aircraft, frag a TARCAP to set up a station near your AoR. By clicking on their station waypoints, you can adjust the time they will stay. An Escort will get to the area, turn around and go home. Leaving you vulnerable. Good luck and clear skies

@Quasi_Stellar
That is just what I needed. Great advice from a seasoned Falcon Pilot.
AWESOME ADVICE!

@huffer2 Hello again QuasiSteller,
For years I have never used the campaign mode, with the old Falcon4/LeadPursuit/and into BMS , properly. I just would join a fragged mission from the ATO. Taking your advice has opened up this Kool dimension of play in BMS. Thanks for the “push”!
I took a campaign I’m using in KTO, seosan AB, day 2. I used the OOB to join the 35th FS at Gunsan. before joining I unchecked the “set by HQ” box. It really helped to study the user manual 9.4.3 in depth. Once joined, now as commander, I followed the user manual’s advice to remove weapons, then delete fragged flights so as to have many F16s available for me to plan a complex preplan-cas package.
Thanks Again for the advice. -

Thanks Again for the advice.Removing weapons before deleting flights is not current anymore, if that’s what you mean.

@LorikEolmin
Yes, the manual page 9-179, advised that. If not needed, sounds good to me. -
