U1 Texture issue

Hi Guys,
4.37 U1 Texture 3993.dds is corrupt. I have also applied the hotfix 1 which Max released yesterday but this still doesn’t fix the issue.
I have checked two other peoples installs and their 3993.dds was also corrupt.Thought I would let you guys know.
In the meantime I just copied and patched it from an old 4.36 install.

@AlehandroGTI I think everyone is probably got this issue, simple enough to copy the 4.36 version over. Not sure what model that file affects but it doesn’t look like its an F-16.

Actually, mine seems to be fine - or at least not corrupt. It appears to be just a blank transparent tile. In 4.37 it had a faint green circle.

1st. The file just because it isn’t shown in explorer doesn’t mean is corrupt. It has different DDS encoding than the rest
2nd. 3993.dds is the green circle that it used to be seen in the HUD it doesnt affect any model file externally or whatever.Cheers

@Manos1981 Thanks for the update. Flagged for me as it is also a different size to the original .36.
.37 Balkans, .37 Israel, and other .37 theatres are still using the old .36 .dds texture by the way. I assume the 3993.dds is exactly the same image content but saved with different encoding and compression… I can’t open it in Gimp? Problem is… having to assume!
You may want to document these changes so campaign creators know. Internally they need updating too.

Disregard for Balkans… they updated it in their U1 patch and also documented it : Fixed HUD texture (green circle) very subtle and square shape.

Disscussed many times…
So far, we don’t have the manpower to track down everything and think what is affecting theater creators or not.
We do our best, but unless I get an army of monkeys, I can’t do perfect changelogs for creators… -

3993.dds is no longer used for the F-16 HUD. That texture has been moved to 8042.dds. 3993.dds is used for other aircraft (not the F-16) HUDs.

You can open the U1 file in Visual Studio. It’s the same 256x256x8bit green HUD circle … but format changed to DXGI_FORMAT_BC7_UNORM_SRGB.
Old format was DXGI_FORMAT_BC3_UNORM, which I think is much more common for tools, shell extensions and editors to support.
That’s always been a problem with DDS files… it’s a quagmire of about 100 different formats. The ecosystem of tools never seems to have 100% complete support coverage.
