VR video Ram usage
-
Hello,
I have an RTX 3060ti (8gb vRAM) and a reverb G2. If I run BMS with fVRResolution set to 1.4 or higher, I notice that vRAM usage is maxing out. The framerate drops to a choppy 12fps. With motion smoothing (render at 45fps) it’s playable but still choppy. This is probably due to the size of the rendered frames. Should I downgrade to a RTX 3060 with 12 GB of vRAM?

I got my answer here:
https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/a-few-tips-to-reduce-gpu-ram-usage/462071Essentially by removing as much unnecessary background graphics in WMR and SteamVR such as SteamVR home, I saved about 2-3 GB which is good enough for BMS.

@spotdott turning off the “shader effects” in cfg will save about 1Gb of vram usage (at 4k single monitor … presumably about the same for VR)
set g_bHdrLighting 0 set g_bHdrLightingStar 0 set g_bUseHeatHazeShader 0 set g_bShowFarRain 0 set g_bShowRainDrops 0 set g_bShowRainRings 0

Isn’t 1.4x resolution a bit high?

@airtex2019 thank you for the tip, will try this and see if memory usage drops more. About the rain drops, will that save vRAM even if no rain is present in game?

According to another post 1.4x is when you get the best visual clarity out of the reverb g2

I have no idea – if you test and find out, let us know.
I just measured all-on vs all-off (on a sunny day).

@airtex2019 I noticed a small bit of performance boost with the shaders off.

Please forgive me if I dare to intervene here:
what kind and amount of RAM do you have?
All what you’re talking of does seem until too much familiar to me…With best regards.
