Can we use Helios in VR mode?
-
Hello guys,
I recently purchased the bobovr headstrap for the quest 2 and it gives me a very large zone to look under.
I miss Helio a lot since switching to VR but this headstrap might give it back to me.
Is Helios compatible with BMS in VR mode or is it not possible?
Thanks! -
@Mikyjax I think that even if it were to work, it’ll be very awkward to use. Focusing on the VR display then peeking under the headset and focusing onto your touchscreen to find where you need to touch to interact with Helios will be very immersion-breaking, not to mention having to tilt your head at awkward angles just to get that part of the touchscreen in view through the gap.

@Mikyjax @Atlas and I have different personal opinions on this and that’s okay. I have no problem with the looking under and in fact modded most of my VR headsets to do this better so I can get clearer MFD displays as well. I get that it breaks his immersion to him, to me the button pushes are immersive too and I’ve spent so much time looking at my not 1:1 and only Viperish home cockpit over the years, it does feel like home so it doesn’t break my immersion. I would tell you that you only know by trying! But at least BMS allows you to still do RTT output for MFDs, etc.when using VR, unlike another sim If the head strap isn’t enough, there are plenty of cheap Quest 2 facial interfaces out there you can buy one to choose up to attempt Bergison’s and mine mods…

@Mikyjax Helios works with BMS i VR if that is what you want to do.

@Snake122 I guess after a while, the mind does get used to things so it probably won’t be as immersion-breaking over time.

@Wheelchock Thank you, it works flawlessly, the only issue I have is that I have some windows sounds “chimes” when using some button like program 3 on counter measure rotary.
I think it’s due to the fact that falcon is not running in full screen but I can’t do it since it breaks the NVG in VR (known bug)
I did check the option that forces the focus to the falcon windows.
Any idea?
Thanks for your help.@Atlas , like mention by @Snake122 it’s really a trade off. Until we can click with fingers or something like that Helios is a blast, and it gives me a very good picture of the mfds, I just have to look down. It’s a great alternative and doesn’t really break immersion… I just see the VR headset as a better track ir looking and playing with the mouse breaks my immersion way more and it’s ineficient.
Thanks all. -
@Mikyjax I’ll have to take a look at the window focus option in Helios. That and the force key file option might be broken.

@Mikyjax You don’t have to sell me on Helios, I used to use it with two touchscreens alongside a triple-screen display. However, with BMS going into VR… plus I guess my G2 has a really good face seal and I can only really peek under if I concentrate and even then it’s a very tiny sliver that I can see through.
But as with my previous setup, once you’re in the air, the mind does amazing things and I don’t really “see” my setup or my screen, it just “blends in” with everything after a while. I guess this will be the case as well in your situation once you’ve had time to get used to it.
