Morphine's Profile

Hi Morphine. I’ve been using your profile for a few months now and it’s great. However, I have a problem with the throttle. About 2/5 of the way past idle there is a dead zone. normal thottle response resumes shortly thereafter. It’s making formation flying and refueling difficult.
When I turn off target and check the throttle response, the dead zone is gone. The problem only occurs when the warthog is in combined mode.Any ideas for why this would occur?
Regards.

I guess you missed #12 on the instructions.
12.The Throttle has a Deadzone from 65% to 75%. This allows you set set the AB detent in Falcon BMS just where it’s coming out of the Deadzone and thus makes it easier to find and hold 100% MIL power (Buster) when flying. Try it… you might like it.
If you want to disable the dead zone, rem out the following two lines in the TARGET script.
SetCustomCurve(&Throttle, THR_LEFT, LIST(0,0, 65,70, 75,70, 100,100));//create a deadzone in the axis between 65% and 75%
SetCustomCurve(&Throttle, THR_RIGHT, LIST(0,0, 65,70, 75,70, 100,100));//create a deadzone in the axis between 65% and 75%

Actually I went back and read the instructions after posting and found the info.
Thanks anyway for the response.

I’ve recently updated this profile. Please see first post for info.

Hi Morphine, great profile however I’m having a few problems getting the DX controls to work. None of them are functional (TMS, DMS etc) but the throttle switches are. I’m running the .tmc file via the Target script editor and I have the Warthog_DX.key file loaded in BMS. I also noticed that the Warthog axis are labelled differently in the advanced section of the controller setup in BMS. It says ‘Z Rotation - Thrustmaster Virtual Game Controller’ as opposed to ‘Z Rotation - Thrustmaster Combined’. Could this be related or am I doing something noob-ish here?!
Edit: I should also add that only have a Warthog and Saitek rudder pedals, no TM MFDs. Everything checks out in the device analyser so I don’t think it is the hardware.

Hey Morphine, in the new profile is there a Jammer On/Off switch?
-
Yes, the CMS now works as it does in the real jet. The ECM pod (asuming it is powered at the ECM panel) is activated by CMS-back and de-activated by CMS-right. Keep in mind that the CMS-back and CMS-right also has an effect on the dispensing of the Chaff and Flares if you are in Semi or Auto modes. See page 114 of the BMS-Manual.pdf.
I was using the same commands in the Version 1 profile but they were toggled by pressing the CMS-down. I decided to make the profile more realistic and use the same command structure as the real jet.

I think your ‘Thrustmaster Virtual Game Controller’ is equivalent to my ‘Thrustmaster Combined’. I couldn’t find anything on the net that explains why they get labeled differently. Maybe Thrustmaster knows…
I think the reason your buttons aren’t working properly is that your ‘Thrustmaster Virtual Game Controller’ is not listed as Direct X device #1 and the .key file assumes it is. Therefore you have 2 options… 1) figure out which device number it is and adjust the numbering in the key file or 2) change the TM Controller to device #1.
I would suggest that you download and install the JoyID software which will tell you which number the device is and allow you to change the ordering. I haven’t had to change the ordering of my devices so I can’t say it’s going to work but it looks reasonable to try. Make sure you are running the TARGET script when you use JoyID to see which number the device is and if you decide to change it.

All sorted now. Downloaded the file again and it seems to work now. China hat switch is the only issue now - will look into that later.
-
So am I correct in assuming that I could not enable the Jammer (CMS-back) if I am in Semi or Auto mode?

Good to hear. If you’re referring to using it as an axis, make sure you follow the setup instructions. If you are referring to the Emergency Jettison, keep in mind there is a 1.5 second delay in which both the shift button and the China Hat have to be held in for it to activate the E-J.

No, the Jammer will come on with CMS-back regardless of Mode (MAN, SEMI, AUTO or BYP) assuming it is powered on. However, the CMS is a dual-purpose switch in that CMS-back also controls the release of Chaff and Flare in SEMI and AUTO modes.
In SEMI mode if you press CMS-back, you give the CMDS computer CONSENT to run the selected program (1-4) ONCE if it detects a need to dispense CH/FL. If you wanted it to run a second time, you would need to press CMS-back again and so on.
In AUTO mode if you press CMS-back, the you give the CMDS computer CONSENT to run the selected program (1-4) if it detects a need to dispense CH/FL and will keep running it as long as it believes the threat exists. You can cancel the CONSENT to dispense CH/FL by CMS-right but that also turns off the Jammer. This is why I have mapped the Mode select to the Function keys so you can quickly and easily control whether you are in MAN (F5), SEMI (F6), AUTO (F7) and BYP (F8 ). You also set the PROGRAM 1-4 with F1 to F4 respectively. See, there’s a method to my madness
You can also always dispense CH/FL by running the selected CH/FL program (1-4) by CMS-fwd regardless of the Mode setting. And CMS-left runs Program 6 and CMS-down runs Program 5 (slap switch).

Morphine, I was thinking of making my own profile with reference to your profile, however I am a bit confused about the .key files. For example, your Warthog_DX has a line SimLightsSteady which does not appear in the default BMS.key file. Why is this? If I copy that line to my own .key file, will it work in-game? I noticed you re-mapped the keyboard combos for some of the controls as well as removing some of them, again, why?
Just looking to learn from you. At the moment, I think I’ll just “hack” your profile and still use your .key file Thanks!
BTW, I am referring to the older version as I believe you’ve updated this one. I’ll try the updated one today! Thanks again!

All sorted now, had the wrong axis selected. Many thanks Morphine!

The various .key files included with the game do not include all of the potential commands (callbacks) that work in the sim and some of the included callbacks actually don’t work anymore. I’m not a developer so I’m guessing that it’s just the code moving a little faster than the .key files.
Anyway, you can find a spreadsheet in your BMS/Docs/Falcon BMS Manuals/ directory called “Keyfile-generator.xls”. This has a listing of all the game callbacks and will be needed if you want to add custom functions to your .key file.
I changed a number of the functions to suit my tastes and cockpit setup – which is probably why you are thinking of doing your own as well As you know, there is a lot of personal preference in these setups.
Anyway, functions I’ve added should work but if you want to add a new one, I encourage you to test it in game to make sure it functions as expected. Finally, I’ll encourage you to make as many changes as possible in the .key file and only use TARGET to make changes to buttons that can’t be controlled by the .key file and more complicated keystrokes or axis commands.
Good luck.

Thanks for the help! I tried version 2 and like it so I’m putting my own customization on hold for now. Thanks for the explanation as well!

Just wanted to say thanks for the profiles and the setup ideas and tips. The G13 for an ICP/DED is an especially good idea and works out wonderfully. Also, I am able to use the FSSB with the Warthog throttle. I wouldn’t have been able to setup my controls without your help and profiles. See my setup below inspired by yours (mainly the G13).

Very nice Fuzz…. And I’m jealous of your FSSB. I’m hoping the RealSimulator guys do a version for the Hog Joystick.

I really hope they make one for the Warthog as well. The Cougar’s base doesn’t have enough surface area to stay in place using higher resistance. It really needs to be attached to a base like the Warthog’s. Right now I use a 25 pound weight on the front of the Cougar to keep it in place. Quite annoying. The FSSB does rock though.

Updated the profile to include the new Idle Cutoff code I developed. More details here:
