Unsolved Thumbstick implementation
-
It’s been ages since I’ve last used a Cougar throttle grip; I’ve been using a WH throttle up to now. I’ve mapped the thumbstick as an axis in AL but my brain is having difficulty controlling the cursor on the MFD. Basically, I want to move up/down/left/right and I can’t deal with diagonal movement. Is there any way to map this as up/down/left/right and remove all diagonal movement?

@Atlas nothing builtin to BMS if that’s what you’re asking … maybe TM Control software?
probably a topic for https://forum.falcon-bms.com/category/23/thrustmaster

If you know ho wto use Foxy, the best solution is to use it to map the Cursor controls to arrow keys and use those for Cursor control.
I did that using a utility called ControllerMate to use a Cougar on the Mac version of FAF, and it’s rock solid and zero drift. You can’t get ControllerMate for Win, but you should be able to do the same thing with Foxy…and maybe TARGET?

Apologies, I probably should’ve specified that the Cougar throttle is still using the Cougar throttle PCB but is now connected to a TUSBA. I might try there and see.

Hi, Atlas.
It’s been a looong time since I used a Cougar. but if memory serves can’t you set the microstick
as a 4-way button, and not an axis ( 5, if you count the press)? If so, then shift + arrow keys should give you you “no diagonal” approach. I used to do this, but can’t remember if it was on the Cougar, or Saitek -
@Atlas - Ahhh…I also have two TUSBAs, and love 'em. There’s a “dance” to setting them up. I ended up having to use the Win Calibrator first, then go back and use the TUSBA software, to get things to work right.
I ended up doing the full monty - 1) Win calibration; 2) TUSBA utility setup; 3) buttons/assignments in BMS Setup.
This eventually got everything matched up. Also note there is or may be some firmware dependent mis-labeling of axes between BMS and the RealSim Utility. Easy enough to noodle out.
Sounds like a PITA, but once it works - it works.

@Stevie It’s not a calibration issue, just that I’ve been using the mic switch on the WH for so long and that’s like a D-pad rather than a microstick and adjusting to the Cougar throttle microstick is making my itty bitty brain explode
@drtbkj I’m not sure I understand you — are you saying I can’t set the microstick as a D-pad/hat switch? Or that I can?

@Atlas Hi. Sorry I wasn’t clear. I know shift + arrows give you cursor control with no diagonals. I’ve done that in the past on some HOTAS or other… I just tried to do it on my Warthog and the micro stick didn’t accept the keyboard commands, you have to do axis.
What I don’t remember is if the microstick on the Cougar can be “reprogrammed” to turn it into a 4 way.
Maybe this will help, possibly page 85?

@drtbkj I see. I think I can program the axis to be button presses after a certain range, I will try that. Thanks!!
