Solved what's everyone's FPS on Campaigns for those who are on a RTX 40 series card?
-
I just wanted to ask how is everyone’s frame rates on playing campaigns for those who are on the RTX 40 series cards?
On a regular TE i’m getting a 120 FPS, but for some reason the moment I run on campaigns FPS goes down to only 60FPS, sometimes I get 75 FPS on mid-air, but on the airbase I only get 56-65 FPS or steady on 60.
Anyone have the same?
I forgot to mention
I have an ASUS RTX 4080 TUF OC version specs

Thanks for the input everyone! Appreciate it.
New MSI Z790 MB is on the way and a new CPU as well, I9-14900K, and new DDR5’s on the way as well.
Just doing some tests before fully doing the upgrade.
Reason I asked is because i’ve played AAA games on this hardware combo i’m currently in, and i was getting a 130-140 FPS in game.
I was just finishing up God of War (Ultra Settings), and then played F1-23 (Ultra Settings) as well, and most of the frame rates i’m getting are in the range of 120-140 FPS. The moment I load BMS, it just maintains at 60-65…I did get 75 FPS mid-air but at the airbase, I normally get 60-65 FPS.
I’m guessing that Falcon BMS uses more CPU intensive processing rather than GPU as I noticed it while benchmarking it.
NO worries I know what i’m doing…for those who think i’m ignorant about it, no pun intended and thanks for the tips. I’m just doing more tests and wanted to see what other’s FPS playing BMS on their high-end rigs.
Thanks guys/gals!

@john1974 VR or monitor? Resolution?
Also maybe bottleneck from CPU? -

Also maybe bottleneck from CPU?Not VR, just monitor…resolution is 2560 x 1080

@john1974 That cpu and that videocard definitely has cpu bottleneck approximately 50%. You are not getting half of what that gpu can do. You are getting same fps as me with my 280ti. Good news is you can really push the resolution though with that card and it probably won’t effect fps. TEs have higher fps due to having less going on. Less objects which are cpu bound. Thats why busy airbase taxi and campaigns are worse than flying. Its your cpu struggling.

@john1974 my goodness RTX 4080 is huge overkill for 1080p … probably even 4k.
used 4080’s on ebay are selling for close to $1000 usd
you could literally replace every other part … new cpu, new mobo, new ram, and downgrade one tier to a more reasonably balanced gpu, and have $ left over
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RF2wKX
compared to 10 year old Haswell, a modern cpu like Ryzen 5600X, each core will be about 50% faster, there are +50% more cores, and hyperthreading works about +50% better, and ram I/O is faster, and modern BIOS will support Resize-BAR and PCIE 4.0 etc, all adding up to roughly 3x or more overall improvement
BMS frametimes will still be mostly single-core constrained … I’d expect +50% avg fps but the 1%-lows may improve even more.

Yep. Massive CPU bottleneck.
-
with my setup and not overclocked meaning at 3.4Ghz and at a resolution of 5760x1200 I get
43fps on the RWY
71fps at 2000ft above airport
69fps at 17000ft closer to FLOT.So it’s not only the CPU something causes the bottleneck and it looks that it’s something that can be overcome after very detailed searching.
Do u have max performance on nvidia settings? -

Went from 4790k to 5800x3d, fps like doubled…

@airtex2019 He was warned about the massive bottleneck he would get with a 4080 last month in a previous post. Remember my bottlenecked 2080ti with a cpu rated as slightly faster performance than his? Hopefully he didn’t pay for it or he got it because he is about to build a whole new computer, otherwise you are right, it is a huge waste of money. His large fps drops are his cpu struggling with larger numbers of objects. Its that simple. A 1650 or 3050 is rated as good fit with his cpu.

not sure???!!?!!?! What??!?!?!!?? You are pairing at $1000+ modern GPU with a $300 (when it was released, maybe worth $50 today? £30-£45 on ebay listings now) 10-year-old CPU? And you are not sure if the CPU is the bottleneck??!!?!?!??!?!
Sorry, I don’t mean to offend, but just wanted to put this into context here and how mind-boggling it is to be in such a situation. Please upgrade your CPU. You will have to upgrade your motherboard as well. It is also very likely that you’re on DDR3 with your current motherboard and most if not all motherboards nowadays are DD4 if not even DDR5, so something to definitely check. While you are doing all of this, what is your PSU model and wattage? The last thing you want is blowing up your PSU due to new components giving an overall heavier load.
Good luck!
EDIT: just saw your other thread and if you are doing this on your SFF PC with a 240W PSU, how are you even running a 4080? I guess you are lucky that your CPU is your bottleneck and as a result, your 4080 hasn’t really opened up and stretched it’s legs as this site lists the 4080’s average gaming power draw at 251W, total draw at 320W, and recommends a 750W PSU.

Agree 100%, people tend to forget\ignore that there is a reason these are called computer systems. If you mix\match parts from different generations it may\may not work well, if at all. PSU\CPU\GPU\RAM…

You folks still DID NOT answer my question though,
what’s everyone’s FPS on campaign on their rig?
Want to see some screenshots along with their FPS please.

Kind of hard to believe when you sat on a 10-year old CPU, paired it with a 4080, then come here asking about FPS based off of the GPU and not the CPU. Nothing to be ashamed of if you were wrong and this is absolutely what the community is for! We all grow and learn from each other!
Devs can correct me if I’m wrong here, but BMS still likes CPU power more than GPU power, right? Like 2 PCs running BMS, exact same settings, exact same hardware, exact same GPU, but one is running a 12th gen vs the other running a 14th gen… will give different FPS on the same test TE if I’m not mistaken. Heck, do this on a stock vs OC’d CPU and there will be an FPS difference, right?
Happy to be corrected on this if I’m wrong and still thinking old-school BMS.

You folks still DID NOT answer my question though,
what’s everyone’s FPS on campaign on their rig?So… it’s not that simple. Different setups, different CPUs, GPUs, settings, etc. Even then, what campaign? Which theatre? What day? What weather? Which airfield? Sitting cold-and-dark? If so, which parking spot? Hot jet? If so, on the taxiway or on the runway?
Even with the same campaign, if you fiddle with the sliders, I’d bet the AI will frag different ATOs.
IMHO, the best FPS comparison is either a set TE or a saved campaign file that everyone can test and since the second option takes quite a bit of work, then the first option is usually the better choice. As such, there is a Benchmark TE included in the game and people usually use that and give numbers from either a cold jet or on the runway.

To be quite honest, it is a Simple question. I just asked for an FPS and a screenshot that go along with it, for their campaign runs. for those who have a high-end rig.
If a person like me likes to experiment on hardware and push the hardware to my liking what’s wrong with that? I don’t see anything being “wrong” with it.
Anyways, No pun intended. At the end of the day, we all have fun flying BMS, i’m just asking for some FPS screenshots for their rig that’s all.

@john1974
I hoped that by explaining it, you get to realise how it’s not really a simple question unless your plan was to compare apples to oranges to watermelons to bananas. -

I just want to see an FPS on high-end setup rigs that is all. Any screenshot would help. Nothing to elaborate.
Simple…

@john1974 Well, I can’t be arsed with a screenshot, you’ll have to take my word for it. Getting cca 147-150 FPS, Rolling Fire first day first mission sitting on the ramp, dark jet. Max settings ingame.
Specs in signature.
