F-14D Cockpit
-
another attempted motivational video, just in case you haven’t seen it yet:
around 7:30 they talk about the f-14 and at 8:28 you get to see footage of the backseat tid (probably beyond scope, but still interesting). there was a video i saw a while ago that was a cursory review of each instrument cluster in the f-14d, but i can’t seem to find it anymoreanyways, i hope you’re doing well, and having fun.
No, noting motivating in this movie.
CAT lovers hate hornets (well talking for myself - cof, cof… that piece of flying junk) -

CAT lovers hate hornets (well talking for myself - cof, cof… that piece of flying junk)LOL! So true! :uham:
Still, nice educational video about how those bugs came to infest our carriers

Skip the Hornet part and watch the F-5 docu…that’s IMHO America’s most classy and iconic plane next to the F-86, F-104, F-15 and F-16.
The F-104 and F-15 (T-38 Talon) where literally two of the 3 first fighter jets I read about as child.
Cheers -
as child.
CheersYou read them last week??:uham:
Hey Thorsten whats up, how’s it hanging?? LOL
You should come on to the 420th’s TS some time and BS. If you want the info lemme know.

True! Not very motivating but interesting nonetheless with a great overview of the development over the years, thanks for sharing. I personally didn’t know of the existence of the YF-17 Cobra. And its also true that generally Cat lovers don´t really like the F-18 (also true in my case) I love the looks of the T-38 talon and I still don´t understand how the F-104 Starfighter manages to fly, with those tiny wings and fat body…pure power is the answer I guess!
Little progress to show I´m afraid…been keeping my self away from the computer laterly to rest a little bit. But I do bring one of the last panels I still need to map :woohoo: , the Control Surfaces Indicator Panel. I have a few questions for all the aviation savyys out there, as I am not sure what it really shows. First of all I don’t understand what the scale on the left is for, because surfaces that can go up and down are 4, 2 ailerons and 2 vertical stabilizers. Do you think that it would show only the left and right vertical stabilizers because they cannot be seen by the pilot? Makes sense right?
The second questions is the rudder scale, as it has too needles its clear its for each rudder but on the NATOPS image it shows both rudders moving outwards (or inwards) so each moves in a different direction? Is this even possible? I always thought they would move parallel to the other and never “against”. What do you think?
-
The left scale should stands for horizontal stabilizer (2 needles because it also provides roll control by opposite move).
Rudders are supposed to move together in the same way. -

Its a manned rocket. There’s a doco of it on youtube somewhere.

Does this helps;
http://www.fas.org/programs/ssp/man/uswpns/air/fighter/f14.htmlFor roll control below 57 deg, the F-14 uses spoilers located along the upper wing near the trailing edge in conjunction with its all-moving, swept tailplanes, which are operated differentially; above 57-deg sweep, the tailplanes operate alone. For unswept, low-speed combat maneuvering, the outer 2 sections of trailing edge flaps can be deployed at 10 deg and the nearly full-span leading-edge slats are drooped to 8.5 deg. At speeds above Mach 1.0, glove vanes in the leading edge of the fixed portion of the wing extend to move the aerodynamic center forward and reduce loads on the tailplane.

well, the whole idea was to use the times to get straight to the f-14 stuff
i watched the whole thing and was sorta surprised at how they kept mentioning the tomcat was better.did anyone else see that video where they show the cameraman around the f14d cockpit? does anyone know where to find it?
[edit found it]

Quick update guys…not too much going on with the pit at the moment…but I did find time last weekend to remodel from scratch the whole HUD assembly. The one I had was somehow corrupt and had problems with some faces of the triangles. 3ds max works in mysterious ways sometimes! See a small pic below…nothing too exciting I know…I need to do the UVW again…something seems not to be quite right.
Anyway…going to bed soon…I´m so tired. Please, if you have any experience with sounds in BMS, have a look at the F-14D sound pack thread and give me a hand if you can!
Take care,
Pepe

Hang in there mate.
You already have done a great work and you are alone!
My respect for your really hard efforts in order to give us a great cockpit of the famous F-14!
Just keep it there and i hope to find some help (personally i don’t know about cockpits developing or sounds editing in order to help :().
See you my friend.

I’ll talk to Demo to see if he has any sounds. He did an entire soundpack for Open Falcon.

Don’t fall in the trap of wanting EVERYTHING to be perfect. It will only lead to an unfinished project, disappointed customers and a frustrated 3D artist –> you!

Very true.

This is turning out to be MEGA AWESOME man!! Truly an artist sir!! Keep up the great work and thank you for your efforts!!
-
First time anybody calls me an artist hehe…weird  I also believe that to be an unhappy costumer you would have to pay first, in this case as there is no paying involved you’ll be a mere unhappy user
Don’t worry guys the pit is going to be far from perfect, just want to get the HUD right as its going to be one of the parts of the pit that we are going to look at more. When the whole pit will be mapped, which is not to far down the line we will be able to start talking about release…
Flyaway I got your pm, let me answer tomorrow, just got back from the pub quite…drunk

Anyway I love the pit work you’re doing.
Our friend Nikos would say: great job, keep it high until the end.Cheers,
