Large Size Theaters
-
I dont want to be repetitive too much, but….
128 are playable ( frankly the only theater I fly is my EU 128 WIP in TE, no time and interrest in campaign ATM, basic art-files OK, no problems with terrain files…just these diagonals grrrr, but it has nothing with functionality)256 are not playable without external “bil, hdr, nrm, sbi and tid” computation (there is no program for it ATM). BMS crashes on start, when trying to compute them. That is why, I dont know…if there is problem with art-files. AF was able to handle 256 seg. art files.
I dont want to make any hype around it…but I am interested in air combat (95% time, 3% naval), I like harpoon style TEs…so I dont like map edges.
If there would be a tool for 256 seg, I will be happy to move from 128 to 256 (the last time, I had a time to finish campaign as player was over 20 years ago in 3.05…)BTW I am freelance architect in RL, making projects, moving on 5 construction sites simultaneously (some of them even public buildings), I am councilor in spare time etc. etc….but ok, I am retarded in western standards, becouse I am Chech and we Chechs are living in Chechnya as you know…
-
BTW to mentioned Air Refuel issue - There is Avro Vulcan model by ccc, even Victor……my motivation to make 256 seg was also because of long ride bombing in Falkland style…I wanted to make flight from Greenland to Russia, using many tankers (spawned manualy).
Everyone have its own playstyle and interest here…for me it is cool tu spend afternoon modeling SAM sites around Moscow, just to be downed in my U2…or capture pack of cruise missiles over Kola in my multitarget capable MiG31… or fight in Donbass in my fake Ka-29 -
hello guys,
i’m very interesting of any post but i worked in job of specialist of pc
for the problem went of parallax of hardware, just problem of synchronisation of graphic card and bus of processeur
perhaps direct x of MS
if you add tiles of 256, you must gone on this way but your solution to mix out format of files on new database it’s perhaps possible but the right way is upper for me
if you have any question of that just send me message
tks

I see you have not tried my suggestion, yet.:D

hi,
i reply at your post
and i see on description of your hardware, you have a graphic card with 1,5 GO memory on board but i think just right it’s 3 GO because for the test
because your tiles is so large and your nvram don’t accept data online and you do over blast your graphic card and shoot down os

LSI was able to find OF4.5 install package. There are “BaZT - SRTM Korea.ofa” and “BaZT - SRTM Korea 1.10.ofa” files inside zip. I dont want to install whole OF, but I can not unpack these files.
I searched my old harddrives and directories. I have found these files : BaZT_-Korea_v1.0_Installer.zip, BaZT-Korea_v1.1_Installer.zip, BaZT-_Korea_Beta_2_Installer.zip and L2 Elevator v1.2 Installer.exe.
I can run the exe. Does this program generate “bil, hdr, nrm, sbi and tid” files? I guess it will install SRTM Korea. I hope it will not overwrite default Korea in BMS 4.32 folder…

I guess it will install SRTM Korea.
Edit:
Not if there is no Falcon installed at all. (means a clean registry)
end editIt might be able to create what you want, but don’t ask me how or what,
… it has been years ago when I had a short look at it.I don’t know if the . zip files you’ve listed are working differently to what I mean.
But I’m sure it has worked with the folder extracted from OF4.7
(whereat the folder should be identically to OF4.5 AFAIK)Cheers,

I think “bil, hdr, nrm, sbi and tid” files are BMS 4.3x speciality….
-
Stop thinking and guessing before you took a look at it.
… maybe it can even help with the diagonals, … who knows?Cheers,
LS -
How could it help in BMS? The EXE is interpreting diagonals, it is not stored inside terrain files (unless new X value introduced and exe updated : ).
I have used BAZT few years ago…i can not remember usage of new terrain files. Thanks for hint, but I will not install OF + quite huge SRTM theater, just to prove it does not use “bil, hdr, nrm, sbi and tid” files.

hi team,
i thinks a solution to extense the tile at 4096 in theatre
just for me, if you go on this way for optimize realism of BMS
you must use integrated function of 4K in graphic card because you don’t overload processor and search if driver of card and directx accept this solution

hi lazystone,
sorry but i don’t understand of you say on post
explain of me the problem of diagonal and after i search for you a possible solution
please could you list any informations of diagonal

you must use integrated function of 4K in graphic card
You mean there is a special function on vga cards drivers and if you enable that then the VGA can handle things better.
This is code side from BMS or a vga driver thing that you can force?
What about previous vga cards and drivers that don’t have support for 4k?
4k is 4096 x 2160 and most vga support a max of 2560x1200… -
dolphins…I guess we are discussing different topics.
I think you are talking about tile texture resolution - it is 128, 256 or 512 pixels.
But we were talking theater resolution. Terrain consists of segments. One segment is 16x16 tiles patch. Default map is 64 seg in large - 64 * 16 tiles. Next possible size is 128 seg (it works). The biggest usefull is 256 seg, but it crashes BMS on start.
The problem with diagonals is about " how is the terrain patch tessalated". Individual tile-geometry is 4-vertex polygon (2 triangles) - so it has a diagonal edge. This edge was orientated SW-NE since the first Spectrum Holobyte simulation egine released (M1 tank i think). All Falcon 3 and 4.0 incarnations respected this except BMS 4.32.
I tried to explain the problem here for example:
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?9734-X1-color-in-BMS-4-32&p=216790&viewfull=1#post216790It has nothing to do with theater size, graphics card HW nor terrain datafiles (there is no value for it, its hardcoded imo) - unless new data introduced - see my hint:
If BMS guys want something special and top notch, this is the way to go IMO.
If not, I suggested this fix:
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?12389-One-BMS-Christmas-Wish&p=168874&viewfull=1#post168874 -

4k is 4096 x 2160 and most vga support a max of 2560x1200…yes i agree of that because if you arrange this solution, you must crack driver video to arrange sizing of tile with base10 in mathematic for translate information in new program
for example

Hi Lucas,
For me, this subject of orientation of diagonals in terrain tiles is little arcane. Are you suggesting that BOTH orientations of the diagonals were to be used in the terrain at the same time? If so, there will be many cases that diagonals will be at different heights in the middle of the tile. How can polygon planes (and their normals) be calculated and rendered?
If the diagonals were to be determined by the content of the graphics (as in the example you show: valley along the diagonal) then would that be rather complicated procedure?
If diagonals were to have common point in the middle that would perhaps make most sense, it would be just as well, however, to use next higher tessalation of the terrain, which would be L1? That in turn would affect performance and perhaps cause terrain altitude “popups”, which was the main reason why in BMS L2 is exclusively used.

I moved debate into this thread :

I agree that decades is probably overestimating it, but it’s certainly a bigger project than a few weekends.
All sounds like a plan. Would you be REALLY interested to find out how the theaters are being created in Falcon, or are we done here?
