Falcon 4.0 now on Steam
-
Looks like it happened: http://store.steampowered.com/app/429530/
-
But… Requires a CD in the tray to work.
-
…and? That doesnt matter.
It doesnt matter, because you can install BMS using that steam copy of Falcon 4. BMS does not need a CD in the tray to work - it doesnt even need Falcon 4 installed to work (it just needs the exe when you install BMS - so you can install from steam, install BMS, then uninstall the steam version).
I cant think of a lot of folks who would prefer to be flying the original F4 over BMS anyway.
-
The folks leaving the negative reviews wanted to play the original and the software they purchased required the CD to do it.

My concern would be their legal rights. Maybe there is no need for concern. But, could they stop BMS from existing if they have the legal rights to 4.0? Hopefully the answer is no.
-
I bought both of GOG and Steam edition Falcon4.0 and its still fun to play original F4 and see what has changed in these 17 years.

Hasn’t stopped anything yet in the last 15 years? I would think by now that anyone who wants to make money selling copies of Falcon 4.0 would only benefit by allowing BMS as that is about the only reason why users are hunting for copies of Falcon 4.0 at all.
-
Well, I won’t lose any sleep over this then. I just don’t want anyone messing with a good thing
-
The Legal owners of the Falcon series would have given a license to whoever is distributing the software. And they arn’t living under a rock as far as BMS is concerned.
BMS is why they have considered it worthy to re release it at this time.
-
The Legal owners of the Falcon series…
…have not done squat to be worthy andso warrant zero regard nor consideration with respect to whatever rights they may try to enforce.
-
Whilst portions of the internet may function as a meritocracy, ultimately an awful lot of it is hosted in the US, and is effectively subject to US law. Which is fairly clear on what consideration is due the enforcement of legal rights.
I think everyone is busy borrowing trouble, to be honest. This isnt an issue at present, and there are good reasons why it isnt likely to become an issue. Why are we worried?
-
“We” are not worried nor concerned.
Carry on.
-
See what I started
-
Naw I’m not worried, all will be fine. Without the BMS work, Falcon 4 is worth nothing.
-
The Force Awakens.
The Falcon Force.
May the Falcon Force be with us. -
…though the next Millennium…Falcon!

So much pent up rage, breath in breath out.

Was that you on the left or the right ?

Have anybody tried to instal BMS over Steam version? Does it support full Steam functionality? Can your friends in Steam see you playing Falcon 4 when you fly in BMS? Can you see how much time you’ve spent in BMS in Steam statistics? Or you just get an exe file and that’s it?
I have a Falcon exe from GOG. If there is a full Steam fuctionality I’ll be very interested in Steam purchase (you know - to be able to send a steam message to a friend on the way to target is priceless, at least for me). But if there isn’t any - I’m not sure if there any sense in this purchase. (May be in the future it would be possible to download BMS via Steam Workshop?;))
