SweetFX for BMS
-
Could this be a problem with Catalyst settings (or the nvidia equivalent) forcing multisampling?
-
Well, don’t use the configurator tool in BMS, as it installs the files to the main folder and does not split them to the correct paths.
It does not recognize BMS and it’s file structure, therefore installs to a default location regardless of the actual game.
it works in some other games.not totally true. If you use the configurator program correct you can split the files into the right directory
click on game settings in configurator
for working directory select the falcon bms\bin\x86enable split sweetfx install
split install subdirectory falcon bms\datasave
now you can do anything within the configurator and the files are placed/removed from the Falcon structure directory

where can we find the configurator program? nevermind found it…
Let’s see if this gives a solution for use with SoftTH

My CCC settings have AA to “use application settings,” so it shouldn’t be forcing multisampling.

Smoked visor https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?7837-Sunglasses-urgently-needed&p=176936#post176936
Possible solution to have a smoked visor : activating/desactivating SweetFx ingame changing the gamma and/or contrast.

TBH that’s not soo amazing.
You can reach a similar or better effect using gapa gamma, which I posted tons of times on this forum and which is known usage with IL-2 guys and also at SimHQ ca since 2010 or so.
No effect on FPS, but you can easily finetune gamma, brightness and contrast for red, green and blue either seperately or together and do not need to install anything. The thing just sits on your desktop and GFX settings and is disabled by closing the program. All you need to keep in mind for BMS is run your settings, exit program, later rejoin it and restore your settings. The downside of all these mods IMHO is they are too invasive, ideally for BMS I would like some minor changes on haze colours and terrain colour/contrast, yet no change inside the cockpit other than dedicated mods.
For BMS, I made myself a couple of gapa gamma settings which inhance the experience. Usually, you can capture with Fraps, does not work with BMS for the gapa gamma difference shots.

This I’s not just gamma and colors.

Gapa neither, check the edited post. Somewhere I store a thread where I took ingame screens with IL-2, can do that later tonight. You can do very subtle changes on the whole terrain/sky etc up to cockpit look. More saturation, different look, bloom effect etc.
Downside each time you do it affects the cockpit as well which I find annoying, same here. -
PS: The shots in the links I gave suck, I will take some shots later this day or so and post.

The SMAA alone is going to keep me using this SweetFX. The default MSAA will only smooth edges of polygons, but not textures. The FXAA from Nvidia is nice, but causes my screens flashing in 2D. So far for me this SMAA is better than those two combined.

Hi,
Works like charm for me and did give FPS boost of approx 10-15.
Outside view much better.
Needs some fine tuning for inside 3D pit as my letters are bit “ragged”.
Any advise on which lines(s) to use from the settings to adjust this ?
-
That sounds promising, will also test.
For the reference, here some shots of what gapa gamma can do.
Not again to brag about IL-2, simply because I cannot capture fraps screens in BMS, I used IL-2 to show. Works as well in BMS where I use it.No FPS gain though…but very easy to use and endlessly open for manipulation-yet-and Arty is right here, no vibrance etc changes, all saturation, colour and brightness etc changes via manipulation of three by three color axis:
Default
With various gapa settings, switchable ingame via numpad keys e.g.
Just a few of my used settings

DefaultGapa
What I love about gapa it is easy to handle and not invasive. What I would like to have is something that increases contrast without brightness change, solely contrast and/or saturation change.

Well but it works even with my crappy old Win XP 32 Bit
I followed the steps at post 10/34/35.
I did not update my DX…already on the highest tolerated level for my Win XP.
Also did not change anything in the command lines for the exe.Not yet totally sure what it does and how it works, but thanks in any case Ron!
For those of you who already have high FPS and seek a similar tool with less functions but easy to handle, go for gapa!
CHrsFrom screeny thread…

Kinda makes it look cartoonish, like Freefalcon

Maybe due to the terrain of theater. The pic above is not Korea. (IT I guess)

Thanks to Ron for this post.
I thought i would give SweetFX a go since my rig wouldn’t allow me to fly with Mutlisampling, hit the FPS to much. So i’ve installed SweetFX as described (using Ron’s settings) and after some initial problems with BMS not loading up I have it working.
Where my rig was slowest (during ramp start) SweetFX has no impact at all on FPS (hovers around 18 FPS). During free flight at altitude above land or sea SweetFX drops my FPS by an average of around 7 FPS which i can live with since FPS are still above 30 and I like the visual improvement.
Also i’ve noticed that load up time from UI to 3d world seems quicker.
Great stuff.
