Umm… Same results? No. Read the manual
Umm…that really helps advance my question.
I am reading the manuals and I have been reading the manuals, in fact I even bought them. The manuals are not exhaustive and they do not provide good caparisons. The manuals are great and I enjoy reading them but I thought having a forum and a highly knowledge community was a asset and one of the thing that make BMS great.
Read the manual really just kind of grates people who have little time because life/family/work/etc but are still trying to learn and put in the time to learn this great sim. I can only take this on in pieces and have been learning since the 4.33 came out. I have only been able to work my way up to the 12 training mission, which is the AGM-HARM. It is slow as hell but I am still at it.
So can some please help by answering my question? Thank you.
So basically it is fire and forget! So then what is the preferred mode POS/HAS/HAD and why? They basically should have the same results but why would you want one over the other in mission planning?
-
With HAD mounted you have bigger radar detection/lock distance, with POS mode you may not wait for radar to become active if apprx position and type is known, with HAS mode almost same as HAD but slightly limited (obviously because HAD pod is absent).
Also, in HAD/HAS you MUST fire when radar is active (symbol lit) to ensure good lock handoff. And to do that you need altitude and be exposed. How can you do that with lowalt creepup? You can’t. So that’s why POS mode is superuseful when doing lowalt creepups. Just program the target and fire. No need to get exposed etc. -
Ok so POS is best suited for pre-planned SEAD or low attitude approaches. HAS and HAD are more suited to clear out threat radars and targets of opportunity as in targets that are not known pre-plan? The difference between HAD and HAS is if you have the HTS pod.
-
Yes, POS is suited for ‘PREplanned POSition’ attacks with low alt ingress.
HAD/HAS not exactly a difference. It’s just the missile got this mode. If you have pod mounted it’s redundant. Also take in account possible pod failures etc. Also pod is great for observation of radar threats as it have wide sweep.edit: as mentioned in a neighbor thread - if you know exact coord for a radar, make it a target stpt. That way if you fire POS, and radar is ‘asleep’ while missile is closing to stpt, it will still revert to preplanned position and strike there. Profit.
Did i mention that i LOVE 4.33? -

Did i mention that i LOVE 4.33?You do know there wasnt any real change between 4.32 and 4.33 there ? If anything, the HARM precision in POS without a lock is lower
-
Well i meant 4.33 in general

Me, too!
And Shep, maybe this will help…HAS lets you target a specific emitter. So, if your mission is to fly to waypoint x and attack the 223th’s SA-2, there you go. I think of POS as “area coverage”.
Which you use depends on the tactical situation. So, yes, your last post sounds good. -
I got 5 symbols in RWR but not in HAS; I am thinking it’s because they are 70 miles away
-
Not everything that shows up as a 2, 3, 5, etc. on the RWR is an engagement radar as seen by the HARM.
