Scroll wheel not working at times
-
i’m experiencing a weird issue in bms update 1
sometimes when i launch bms the scroll wheel does not work. either in the phonebook or in the 2d map when trying to zoom. and when i do something in the te editor it suddenly starts working at times, i’ve not found a way to replicate this issue reliably.
1 other person that i know of has also experienced this.
restarting bms does not fix the issue, so far either fiddling in the setup menu or playing around adding squadrons for example to an airbase does seem to work but it’s hit and miss. 1 time in the 3d it also was not working (i use mouse wheel for FOV control).
i know this is all very vague, but i was wondering if more people had this issue and to see if we could narrow down what might cause it since only a few people seem to be affected by this.
i use an x52pro running old sd6 drivers (6.2.2.4) and profiler (9.9.9.9)
windows 7 sp1 fully updated (without the annoying win10 updates)
and ofcourse 64 bit is what i run bms in.

Hi,
I had this issue also just today for the first time.
Mouse scroll not working in 2D (map zoom in/out but also scrollbar in briefing screen, then I went into a mission and after I came back everything was working again in 2DCheers

This is a known issue. If anyone can reliably reproduce the problem, please post here.
Thanks.

For me it started happening after misclicking in setup. Changing the zoom to mouse wheel from keyboard did not fix it, but restarting after that did.
Of course this was just after freshly installing it, as BMS simply stopped launching before that and had to be reinstalled.

Same here…
this morning I noticed that zoom did not work in 2D map but altough this I managed to have my recon so I took off. Strange thing is that once in pit the wheel worked when I used it to rotate the knobs. Back in map zoom function was restored.I will keep eyes open to find a way to replicate it.

We had some internal tests on this topic. But unfortunately we were not able to find a 100% repro case.
For me it is triggered by the “External Windows always on top” setting in the config (using BMS displays extraction here).
Others, with the same problem, can’t reproduce it this way. So the cause is a mystery so far.I know two solutions, which work for me (note: maybe not for others):
1. BMS = windowed mode: click once outside the BMS window and set it to focus again
2. BMS = full screen: Alt-Tab on desktop when in UI and then back to the sim.It would be nice if you could share your solutions, e.g. what triggers the non working mouse-wheel for you.
On a side note:
Only a handful of devs are experiencing this annoying bug. So it’s the minority. Others do not and can’t reproduce it
with known triggers. Also the bug reports here in the public forum are not seen very often.Chances are high that it is not a BMS issue alone, but instead maybe a Windows related issue or a combination of both.

I am using cockpit display extraction also. Windows 7 here.

Actually thought about another small issue that perhaps could be anyway related.
Sometimes I cannot stop playing movies by using the ‘esc’ key like I normally could. Selecting desktop with mouse and coming back into BMS makes it possible to use the ‘esc’ key.Looks like another window gets foreground focus.
Hope this could help.

ESC key is intersting.
Just be aware that other application may capture keysPhotoshop for instance always capture the ESC key (except in a text layer) which is then not available to other programs.

This has been happening to me also, when BMS is the only window open. Rather frustrating, but at least its possible to set all movies to not play.

i use display extraction and windows always on top as well. what you said about clicking outside and then clicking back in works thanks.
so to recap my settings
2x mfd cougar, windowed mode using display extraction (non RTT) windows always on top checked on.
my falcon bms.cfg is fairly modified but if people want me to post it i can surely do so,also my windows are extracted to my 2nd screen on the left, i hardly think the coordinates cause this issue. but it could be that the mfd windows themselves are the active screen and since they are part of bms clicking inside bms does not make the main bms the active window but by forcing the issue by clicking outside and then inside the main bms window the active window is forced to the main bms window… will have to test this theory

Hi Rev.
I hardly think this is the case here.
First: Of course I tested this and the only “function” which doesn’t work is the the mouse-wheel.
All other interaction with the UI work just fine.Second: Other devs with the same issue have other triggers, which (unfortunately) are not known to date.

This has happened to me on one occasion also. After a restart all was okay again.
Greetings

i get what you are saying but the mousewheel is not the only function that is “mouse-over” i haven’t tested this ofcourse but if mouse-over actions like hovering the mouse over a button and/or using the scroll wheel does not work at first then the main bms window is not the main focus window.
for example and i’ll test this tonight, if i move my mouse over the buttons in the main UI window a sound plays, if the sounds do not play and mousewheel is unresponsive in say the comms tab(phonebook) then that would i think indicate that the main falcon window is not the main focus.
i know this does not explain how it gets triggered but it could help in narrow down a possible fix.
a few things changed in how bms loads, like the “ïs falcon 4.0 installed bit.” which is universal for all people. and maybe by throwing another variable like the old school mfd extraction method we are using we are opening 3 windows instead of just 1 in windowed mode, and depending on how fast bms loads/starts up this may cause the main window to not be the main active focus window. (because 1 window may load faster than another window for example)
my falcon4.0 installation is located on a slow mass storage 4tb drive that i use purely for data storage and backups, this means this drive is usually spun down (starting falcon takes ages for me as a result) but i can live with that as i dont want it taking up prime real estate on my fast program installation drive.i have this issue now nearly 100 percent of the time though, so if you have any suggestions that you’d like me to try to help narrow it down i could do them.
will place in an edit my results when i’ve tested what i wrote above.edit:
hmm sounds play on mouse over, could still be a focus window thing, but it’s more unlikely now in my mind at least.
so i concur with your 1st point.and i wish we did have a list of their triggers as well.
ahwell. using the method mentioned earlier i can get the scroll wheel to function so it’s no big deal now, but could be annoying if you end up in the 3d and you can’t zoom using the scrollwheel (i dont use the look closer button) so i don’t think this will get any priority from them soon.
