MFD Setups
-
So a lot of guys have asked me now how Viper pilots set up their MFDs. Realize this is a Burger King jet and you can “have it your way”. However, the setups I have listed below are pretty much what most people do or some flavor of it. This is one of the most debated topics in the F-16 and one of the first things talked about in the B-Course so a student can develop a good cross-check from the beginning. If you talk to Block 50 guys they want the TGP on the left, whereas Block 40 guys prefer it on the right. I use NAV for all admin phases of flight. If it’s A/A only then I run A/A in the center position. If I’m doing some type of A/G then I’ll run that in the center position.
My typical setup looks like this as a SEAD guy:
NAV
–----------------------------------------------------
FCR | DTE | TEST ********** HSD | SMS |TGPDGFT
FCR | | SMS ********** HSD | | TGP
MSL OVRD
FCR | ECM | SMS ********** HSD | HAD | TGP
A/A
FCR | ECM | SMS ********** HSD | HAD | TGP
A/G
FCR | WPN | TGP ********** HSD | HAD | SMS
Now for dudes that start out on a block 40 they may do something like this (that I don’t agree with for when they eventually go to a SEAD unit):
NAV
FCR | DTE | TEST ********** HSD | SMS |TGP
DGFT
FCR | | SMS ********** HSD | | TGP
MSL OVRD
FCR | ECM | SMS ********** HSD | HAD | TGP
A/A
FCR | ECM | SMS ********** HSD | HAD | TGP
A/G
FCR | WPN | SMS ********** HSD | HAD | TGP

Nice…

I note BMS doesnt have an ECM page. Dont think its in the (admittedly old) -34 I have either. Newer addition to the jet? CCIP feature?

Correct. It is in the current T.O., however. It’s the page that interfaces with the ALE-50 which is why it doesn’t appear in BMS.
