FCR CNTL-page
-
Guys, I have given up on this one.
I have read so many real life F-16 manuals (MLU 1, 2 and 3 to give an example) and I still can’t find what the functions on the CNTL-page of the FCR mean.
Can somebody give me a link to a document where I can find the answers ?
Thanks in advance

OSB 5 [CHAN]: Cycles through the 4 radar frequency channels.
OSB 6 [MK INT]: Cycles through the intensity of the concentric range marks provided in the unexpanded (NORM) ground map type modes
Level 1 - Range marks not visible.
Level 2 - Range marks 4 shades of gray below level 3.
Level 3 - Range marks same as other MFD symbol intensity.
Level 4 - Range marks will be 4 shades of gray above level 3 or maximum as appropriate.OSB 8[BAND]: Cycles between WIDE and NARO frequency agility bands (CLASSIFIED)
OSB 9[BCN DLY]: Honestly I’d have to dig in the -34-1 again about this since we never use it…
OSB 17[LVL]: Sets the ECCM level of the radar (CLASSIFIED)
OSB 18[TGT HIS]: Displays radar histories
1 displays actual hit
2 displays current hit + 1 history
3 displays current hit + 2 histories
4 displays current hit + 3 historiesOSB 19[ALT TRK]: This is the altitude blanker; when set to ON it will use your AGL from the CARA to prevent displaying histories at the commensurate range on your FCR due to sidelobes.
OSB 20[MTR]: Moving Target Reject; Set to HI when winds aloft are excessive to prevent the radar from displaying chaff returns; LO threshold is 71 kts, HI is 110 kts.

CHAN does nothing in BMS, MK INT Im not sure on, BAND does nothing in BMS, BCN DLY does nothing in BMS, as IIRC the beacon mode isnt implemented, LVL does nothing in BMS, the tracker blanker does nothing in BMS, as the sidelobe return isnt implemented, and MTR I suspect does nothing in BMS. Normally its handy to prevent getting target returns from fast cars, too.

BCN DLY is for beacon radar functions like finding the tanker or using it for fix taking or ground attack. Some commando unit would set up a radar beacon. Locking on to it you could bomb an offset target (or nav fix, etc.) without ever emitting yourself. I believe the delay was involved in signal security. Page 12, APG-66 A Fighter Pilot’s Radar for a picture.
I think the blanker makes the “Y” symbol come and go maybe but the actual return blanking and side lobe stuff is not in. There certainly aren’t spurious side lobe contacts that need to be filtered.
Moving target rejection thresholds might be in; that deserves a test. These would be set separately for air and GMT modes.

Thanks everybody
So unfortunate that so many interesting things are classified. I hope when the F-35 replaces the F-16, we will get classified documents about things we shouldn’t know.
But I don’t think that will ever happen, if they would do that, we would be able to learn more about the F-16+Falcon BMS could improve the sim because of that released intel -
That’s not really how classified info works so don’t hold your breath.
