A/R Disc…...disconnect
-
So I used to be able to use the A/R missile step button to open the fuel door….I guess that 's not happening anymore?
I gotta take my eye off the prize and mouse click that sucker? Go tumbleweed everytime!
Short cut key, here I come!
Realistic as hell.
Anyone got any pointers about this? -

“A/R missile step” button (callback*****) has always been for disconnect during AAR operations. Maybe you were using a specific HOTAS profile not using the “A/R missile step” callback (?)
*****SimMissileStep -1 0 0x35 1 0 0 1 “STICK: NWS A/R DISC MSL STEP SWITCH”

Thanks Dee-Jay for the reply.
I’m thinking that’s what it was. I just can’t take my eye off the ball to open that dang refuel door. I need to get it open before I get to the Pre-Contact position. When do pilots normally open their AR door during the process? -
Once you are cleared leave the Observation area before going Pre-contact, or, once you are steady in Pre-contact at a safe distance.
If you really need, do not hesitate to map a key on your keyboard (IIRC default is SHF + R) …
Do not map this on your HOTAS, it is a waste since you are using it only once per flight or even less. (Same mistake many ppl do by mapping the grear on the HOTAS … this is … well … ) -

Depends I for example have mapped both as with 50 buttons on my HOTAS with shift layer 100 why not

The HOTAS , by definition you have your hands on it all the time. So even if it’s shifted, there is a risk of inadvertent extention. So to me … here is the “why not” (appart the fact that it is pointless).
But hey … you can do what you want. -

Anyone got any pointers about this?Toggling the A/R door is or used to be, by default, on the shifted DX layer of the NWS/MSL STEP button in (certain?) key files. That may be what you’re referring to?

I love the discussion about this. It’s how I learn. Thanks fellas. Ya know that Contrast Rocker switch that is N/I on the Cougar MFD? I made that my Fuel Door Toggle. Up for Open Down for Close. It’ll actually work either way, but it’s a switch in FOV that works.
I am also now using Dunc’s Keyfile that with the help of @Icarus I have modified to include my ViperGear ICP. (this keyfile has the shifted NWS button)
Eventually, I will be ordering a few switch panels and going with Arduino or F4toKeys.
Currently I am trying to use a couple wheels on my ICP through the BMS Setup GUI for HSI Course and Altitude Pressure Knobs. The problem is that they advance too quickly for precise control. If any of you have a way to trim that out, lemme know.
