I ordered the virpil warbird base last year for use with my Cougar joystick. I wound up putting in the included heavy springs and detent less cams. Personal preference really but the default springs felt pretty light. I recently found a virpil constellation grip used in good shape and it is matched perfectly to the warbird base as far as feel goes since obviously they are designed for each other. But the cougar F-16 joystick also worked extremely well despite it being heavier than the constellation grip. You will have to install and setup the virpil software to get the warbird up and running either way. Not a huge ordeal, just take your time.

RE: Possible help with CTD's
I thought I would add to this thread versus creating a new one.
The ctd’s I have continued to experience in 4.35 U1 seem to be related the DX11 GFX but unfortunately no crash logs are generated. For example, if I am switching between target cam 6 or friendly cam 8 I will get a ctd after I switch back to default cockpit view. The latest happened when I was looking down at my ground target after dropping my ordinance while banking sharply towards friendly airspace. I thought the using the TGP was suspect but when after turning it off I still experienced CTDs.
The crashes are happening in the latter parts of the mission typically. If I turn the TGPs off and dutifully stare straight ahead and use no external views I can make the trip back to base without crashing and losing all progress in the mission. (There is no quicksave? Was there in a previous version?)
I am playing red side ITO campaign and use no extractions or external MFDs or multiple displays.

RE: Game crash to DESKTOP but no log/dump files created (4.35)
That was probably the dreaded ‘gndai’ bug that caused ctd in 4.35 for me in the Isreali theater, at least according to my crash logs.
I idled 4.35 and went back to 4.34.4 and restarted the Israel and its stable. Really nice of the developers to release 4.35 when they did as it is definitely better, particularly the dx11 support, but I don’t think it was quite ready for prime time.

RE: Delete/reassign Mark point
Try scrolling with the radar cursor to the ground target in the TGP or FCR and TMS up, then 7 (mark) on the ICP and then TMS up again and you should see the target under stpt 26. TMS down to break lock on target, scroll to the next ground target, and TMS up. This should now designate as stpt 27. Repeat as needed for subsequent targets. You should be able to see each new stpt properly sequenced on the DED as you do this.

RE: Madcatz F.L.Y. 5 mapping - profile
I made a key file for my Saitek FLY5 complete with shifted dx functions a while back.
Nothing to be embarrassed about. It ain’t no full hotas substitute but for a road warrior the Mad Catz is hard to beat as it packs up extremely well.
Doesn’t look like I can attach it here. Send me a pm and I will send it to you.

RE: No awacs or IFF ?
After some trial and error I found the solution for the IFF interrogation deal. Under the data/sim/Ac data folder are the *.dat files for each aircraft. In my case I changed the F16cbk40il.dat file under the “IFF” header as follows:
avionicsIFFTransponderSettings 23
avionicsIFFInterrogatorSettings 0
avionicsIFFBackupM1M3 0to:
avionicsIFFTransponderSettings 63
avionicsIFFInterrogatorSettings 15
avionicsIFFBackupM1M3 1The preceding is what is listed under the US F16cbk40.dat file “IFF” header.
Thanks for the Jstars tip. I was able to frag E8 missions normally without the wp error. It certainly helps with ground unit SA.
Anyone find it curious the Israeli’s have no air defenses? Like none. UN ban?

RE: No awacs or IFF ?
Figured out how to add awacs to these Israeli campaigns by adding a solo E2 training flight then adding another E2 to the package out over the Med. Thus far with no havcap escorts and the red side has not targeted them. At least so far in my Serpent’s Sting campaign.
But I cannot get the IFF interrogation to work on any of the IDF F-16s up to block 40. I used mission commander to temporarily switch my Ramon based F-16 squadron to US F-16-40CMs and the IFF (TMS left) worked without issue. StevieG says above not all are equipped with interrogators, is there any way to change this? I could not figure it out in the editor and changing settings in the avionics configurator has no affect. My search efforts have not been fruitful.
Also the E8 Jstars are not fragged by the AI for the blue side but are available out of Ben Gurion. Are they necessary to win?

RE: How to destroy airbases
In my experience using guided or unguided bombs on runways BMS seems to have a random damage factor going. For example, dropping one GBU31v4 will destroy the runway section typically 80 percent of the time, otherwise it will show damaged. Lately I prefer ripping the GPS guided JDAMS in one pass, targeting the touchdown zone and runway mid point while directing my AI wingman to target the other touchdown zone. This takes the base out of commission. I am pretty sure every time I have dropped 31s in pairs they have destroyed the targeted runway section. Laser guided GBU24’s work well on runways as well, one will typically get the job done and you can buddy spike your AI wingmans laser guided drops since they basically suck at laser guided weapons (they don’t appear to lase guide at all) using your laser to guide after they drop.
I have also noticed the same random damage factor going after naval targets, i.e. OCA Class 2. Sometimes my harpoon or AGM65G will sink them, other times they survive. And I do hang around for a few minutes to observe as they typically take a while to go down.
More power to you all doing low level BLU-107 drops. They are a blast to perform but I get usually get whacked but some unknown SA-7 or ZPU hiding in the bushes, even when I have been down ridiculously low.

Collision with parachutist
So I am right on the six of a Mi29A that has its sights set on a wounded F-18 limping away in front of him. I take him out with a sidewinder and he ejects right in front of me and his chute deploys perfectly aligned with my gunsight. This is too good of an opportunity to see if I can gun him under the chute, despite a blatant violation of the Geneva convention and subsequent committing of a war crime. Oh well, Leavenworth is nice this time of year.
I squeeze off a few rounds and I appeared to connect, but his path was unaltered. I stayed on target right to the point where I flew right into him and he passed through my right wing. Bam!!! I am now billowing smoke, my engines are failing and I am on fire. I exploded before I got to the ejection handle, but it didn’t help that I was laughing so hard at the absurd outcome.
Checked the replay in both Tacview and ACMI. I was destroyed while he remained perfectly unharmed while floating safely down under his canopy. The developers programmed karma in BMS?!?

RE: Bridges
Following up on my own thread. I was targeting a red mech battalion that was on both sides of a bridge that crossed a small river or wash. I happened to take out the bridge as collateral damage while targeting the enemy vehicles. I observed the rest of the battalion for a while and they were crossing back and forth across the chasm after the bridge was destroyed on both sides without restrictions. So the take away is targeting of bridges has no stategic value in this theater.
Also on day seven of the campaign as blue troops were closing in on the final objectives the campaign ended with a crash at 2000:01. No stalemate or victory, just a crash. Jet froze, could here sound but keyboard was unresponsive. Loaded with an earlier save from a few hours earlier and ran in 2D and it crashed at the exact same time. Again no logbook info update.
