Oh for *&?!/%$ sakes !!! Iâm tempted to say something messed up my pitch, roll and yaw assignments, but now I have doubts I had even set those up in AL and in turn must admit Iâm the f**ckin idiot that might have âforgottenâ to set them up in AL !!
Wonder why I never had to setup within BMSâs setup though when not overridingâŚ
Nevertheless, all seems normal now⌠X52 Hotas, TrackIR, and FoV with both X52 slider and moving myself forward with trackir.
I am SOOOOO sorry (really!!) to have wasted your time here. and yet, greatful you did try to help (and did!). BMSâs community just rocks!
Wonder if thereâs something that could be done in AL to automatically setup the base axis as did Falconâs BMS internal setup?
Anyways⌠THANK YOU!!! And again, much much sorry for losing anyoneâs times here
(at least, now I get a clean windows install!!! LOL)
@airtex2019 Thank you
Hereâs a shared google drive zip file with all. Hope you can access it. Let me know if you have problems with it. I also included the AppData / Logs âŚ
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TxeHSp3k8z4BjgD60Q6ndcsCrA7vLnVw/view?usp=sharing
p.s.: I donât know if this changes anything, but I took the User\Config folder from AFTER having launched the game without any setup override. Just let me know if you want to see it WITH overrides.
Thanks a million!
Pat
@airtex2019 Hello again. Sorry Ive been quiet⌠My jobs + christmas + kid has taken over my life lately!!!
I just got back to Falco after a month⌠Reinstall my Windows 10 completely with latest windows update.
Installed Falcon BMS 4.37.3 (with Full Installer)⌠Then within AL, did all updates to AL (v2.4.1.5) / BMS available⌠this included BMS hotfixes up to 4.37.3.2 âŚ
STILL, when I launch the game, I have to manually go into the setup and forcefully select my X52 HOTAS
and setup from advanced the FoVâŚ
THEN itâs okay, but if I want to KEEP does settings, when relaunching with AL, I need to make sure to Launch without any setup override:
Itâs like I needed to do it for AL to send it my initial keymappings (because they all worked as I setup in AL), but it just didnât send over the config for FoV / tell BMS to actually USE X52 as input⌠even though it did send over all configs!
At least, I got it kinda working this way but⌠itâs annoying
My setup has nothing fancy ⌠I did a full clean install⌠Nothing special here.
Im guessing you still wouldnât have an idea as to what could be hapening based on this info?
Much thanks, regardless of the outcome
Pat
@airtex2019 Also wondering, when I initially installed with 4.37.0, then did a single update at a time, i,e.
Before doing 4.37.2.0, I had to install Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015
(x86 and x64) which it required. So now, I currently have the following C++ libs installed:
Could this potentially be source of the problem !?
@airtex2019 Iâve reinstalled it all. Clean all I could⌠And made sure to now install from 4.37.3 FULL Installer.
I have the exact same problems. There must be a bug somewhere with specific configurations, but I canât see what / where.
My Falcon BMSâs install folder IS also excluded from Windows AV (thatâs the only one I have):
The %LocalAppData%\Benchmark_Sims\Launcher_Log.txt is showing me the same error info:
[12/3/2023 1:25:37 PM] [EXCEPTION] Object reference not set to an instance of an object.::
Source: FalconBMS_Alternative_Launcher
Target Site: Void ChangeCfgPath()
Message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Stack Trace: at FalconBMS.Launcher.AppRegInfo.ChangeCfgPath() in C:\git\arithex\AltLauncher_develop\FalconBMS-Alternative-Launcher\Falcon BMS Alternative Launcher\AppRegInfo.cs:line 148
And I still canât find anything in the registry regarding this:
You could perhaps export your reg key of this, and save as text / show on this forum if you donât mind? Iâll try manually inserting it to see if it changes anything⌠if you donât mind and have time ?
Million thanks!
Pat
@airtex2019 Indeed, I dont seem to have anything in my registry with neither âF4Patchâ or âF4Exeâ for that matterâŚ
Its all super weird. As I said, brand new windows install; nothing out of the ordinary, no registry cleaner, etc. My windows account is Administrator too.
I think Iâll try the following:
You thing I should try forcefully run the installers as Admin ? I shouldnât need to do that though⌠Just hope I dont need to reinstall windows⌠again!
Cheers! Pat
@airtex2019 Hi there. First, thanks for your time with my problems here! Much appreciated!
How could I send you over the zip files of both my User\Config and the Benchmark_Sims folder ? Trying to send through private msg, but canât seem to do so (?)
I did see this though in the Launcher_Log.txt:

⌠"Void ChangeCfgPath() " ???
Looking at the source code of ALâs AppRegInfo.cs (line 148), I think it is crashing here:
That is super odd⌠Almost looks like some type of bug with AL ?
Almost looks like it cannot find the proper regkey from:
I indeed dont seem to have the the regName32 key value in my Registry, but regName64 does seem to exists. Now why the heck itâs not catching that one is a mystery⌠Not even sure that is relevant to my problems, but I can only image. No clueâŚ
I had also previously tried removing it all, and sticking with a lower version of Falcon (4.37.2) and I think it was AL 2.3.x ⌠But I had same issues I think (had so many problems, donât remember which failed at what point to be honest).
Also, I seem to have multiple folders in my Benchnark_Sims⌠, having multiple config folders (?) i.e.
Whatâs messed up is that itâs not like I did something weird to install it all. I just install fresh Windows⌠Install all my HW drivers; then installed Falconâs setups one after the other from these executables:
And finally, ran the update of Falcon to 4.37.3⌠from within the AL ⌠Nothing special here.
Thanks again for your input
Pat
@airtex2019 Hmmm. Was about to get screenshot of what you asked for and noticed this, even after having first chosen my X52 Controller here:
Field Of View seemed to be defaulted to Keyboard.
Could this problem be related to the other one I reported ?
https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/26240/setup-defaulting-to-keyboard-instead-of-hotas-joystick/
If I change it to âSlider X52âŚâ in Falconâs setup (not the AL), then it now seems to work along with my head trackerâs Z enabled, but it absolutely does not take into account the inverted setting from the AL set setting.
I need to forcefully set it to reverse in here:
And of course, as per my other post, that FOV setting from within Falconâs setup isnât saved and gets reset everytime I launch FalconâŚ
Itâs almost as if only partial settings from the AL get sent into Falcon once launched! WtfâŚ
@Icarus What you said would of make sense, but seems I was already launching it without overrideâŚ
Iâm starting really to wonder about this new version of AL / BMS âŚ
First this, then problems with TMS assignments on POV;
https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/26236/x52-pro-assigning-pov1-to-tms/
And also weird behavior of FOV joined with Head Tracker:
https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/26241/using-both-trackir-z-axis-and-throttle-slider-for-fov/
Seems like problems are chaining up here
Hello again, yet another question regarding after new installâŚ
OS Windows 10
Falcon 4.37.3.1
Falcon Launcher 2.4.1.5
Joystick: Logitech X52 Professional
Driver: 8.0.121.0
Software: 8.0.213.0
Head tracking: 60Hz Grass Monkey Puck with Opentrack
I just bought the Head Tracker. I understood that normally, I should be able to keep using my FOV slider I had configured with my X52âs throttle slider WITH the head trackerâs Z axis to zoom in a bit by leaning forward⌠:
However, it doesnât seem to be the case. If I try, the head tracker seems to work (although it starts off way too zoomed in for some reason), but the slider on the throttle simply wonât be recognized / wonât do anything. The only way to get the slider working again is if I disable the Z output in Opentrack.
Is this a known âissueâ or limitation ?
Cheers! Pat
Hello.
Running with:
OS Windows 10
Falcon 4.37.3.1
Falcon Launcher 2.4.1.5
Joystick: Logitech X52 Professional
Driver: 8.0.121.0
Software: 8.0.213.0
Head tracking: 60Hz Grass Monkey Puck with Opentrack
This is a new Windows + Falcon + TrackIR installation. For some reason, when I launch Falcon from the alternative launcher, the game always seems to default the setup to use my Keyboard as opposed to be using my HOTAS Joystick as the controller:
On every launch I have to forcefully go into setups and change the controller to be my X52⌠Otherwise, my joystick / throttle just donât work in the game.
Any clues as to what Iâm missing / why itâs not saving my config here ?
Much thanks.
Regards, Pat
@airtex2019 Honestly, I do not know what is the difference between these. I couldnât yet find clear documentation regarding this. Logitechâs documentation really suck if you ask me
I can say though that I tried all mode. All same results: nothing gets binded in Falcon Launcher.
The only way I was able to do it, is like what I think you are suggestion @QuantumDream with your VJoy / Gremlin software, well partially what you are saying (?). I dont know Gremlin soft at all⌠Iâve forced the behavior to be like 4 buttons in the X52âs software, and mapped out each of these 4 buttons to forcefully send in (as per previous screenshots):
Not ideal, but not sure which other wayâŚ
Hello.
Few specsâŚ
OS Windows 10
Falcon: Falcon 4.37.3.1
Launcher: Falcon Launcher 2.4.1.5
Joystick: Logitech X52 Professional
Driver: 8.0.121.0
Software: 8.0.213.0
This is a fresh Windows/Falcon install. The issue Iâm having is that in my previous Windows/Falcon (4.37.2) install, I had mapped out my joystickâs POV1.Up/Down⌠to the TMS functions. i.e. these keys:
Now, trying to map them out in the Alternative Launcherâs Keymapping just doesnât recognize the key at all. It does nothing. i.e.
What did I miss here? How can I get Falcon/Launcher to see it as actual DX keys ? I already tried in the X52 software to set the POV 1 to be 4-way, fallback and Buttons (UNprogrammed!) and that didnât work either.
I was however able to set them as 4-way Buttons, and setup New KeyPress in each 4 to send in the same keypress as within Falcon, i.e.
So in this way it is the X52 software thatâll send Shit+Home, etc to Falcon, BUT I never had to do this before. Seems like a dodgy way of having to do it. Wondering if itâs not a bug with The new Launcher maybe ?
Any clues, anyone ?
Much thanks.
Patrick
@Dan It seems like the âtriggerâ problem I had is resolved. Itâs like setting keyfile to X52 within Alternative Launcher doesnât properly apply. I needed to simply Load the keyfile from within the gameâs setup > controller menu. Odd âŚ
Final notes: yes we can change view to say 3D interior, but itâll mess up the script at some point regarding the white target circles and whatnot. Itâll get lost at some point if you toggle too much / or at the wrong time between 2D and 3D.
So, Iâm just gonna stick to NOT switching views
Still, I think a small phrase showing the verbal instructions would be handy as well (without describing too much or overwhelming the screen).
Cheers! Pat
@Munster Again, so helpful Iâve PMâd you And thanks for those links !
A few remarks to start withâŚ
It does seem to wait indeed. I just doesnât wait when the control / knob is already properly set to start with. Then itâll go by right through it (i.e. Verify CNI switch to BACK UP).
Regading the views, I understand better now, thanks. However, depending on where / at what point you change view to say 3D, move around, sometimes going back to 2D will be in wrong position, thus making the circle indicators not at all on the right spots. I think to switch view to a 3D position, better to do it only when weâre paused and have a circled control to manipulate⌠Then you can switch view, move around to look, and come back to 2D and itâll be okay.
Regarding the display of text, would it be possible to add (on top of the voice instructions) things like:
Print 900 "Main power switch to BATT"
This is what the other script that found was doing and I didnât find the text too small (?). Iâm running in 2560x1440⌠but itâs just an idea.
I didnât expect to have to have pictures and whatnot in the game from the manual lol. But rather just a text âIFF Panel: see chapter xyz in file.pdfâ type of thing. Again, just a suggestion, but maybe it would get too crowded.
Lastly, but the most problematic issue for me: I simply cannot get passed the EPU section âRemove EPU safety pin by ground crewâ. It tells me all to press âTâ then â1â, and when itâs no longer displayed on top/right - red text, then hit the trigger when ready. The trigger part does nothing at all for me. I get stuck thereâŚ
I have a Saitek X52Pro. Iâve chosen its keyfile in the alternative launcher and all. Didnât change any mappings. If I go then in the Setup / Controller section in game, hitting my trigger displays as if it was assigned.
Any ideas as to whatâs going on with the lather issue? I believe itâs from this line in your script?
WaitInput 2 SimTriggerFirstDetent //press the trigger to continue
I tried hitting all my buttons, and also ctrl/slash which I think is also the trigger (?). Nothing does itâŚ
Again, much thanks for your efforts and help on all of this.
Regards, Pat.
Gotta say though, I look more like him right now ! LOL
Soooo got my new Hotas flightstick !!! Yayyy! And it seems to work okay now! Wout wouttt!
Started more in-dept reading and started exploring your guide too @Munster for the cold start I also came across this which is quite interesting as learning material: https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/24667/bms-training-script-with-voice-instructions
Although I find the lather to have âglitchesâ, but it might be just me that doesnât yet understand a few things.
Most importantly, I think I first need to go through âTO 1F-16CMAM-1 BMS.pdfâ, which is the one nicknamed âDash-1â I believe, and then the âBMS-Comms-Nav-Book.pdfâ and so on, as I progress⌠Gotta bite the bullet
Hello all!
First THANK YOU for such work!! It is great, being really new in the BMS, Flight Sims and avionics world, I have A LOT to learn! I currently know nothing (acronyms, jargon, etc.!). Just starting offâŚ
The script functionality within BMS is super!! Wonder why the game doesnât come with these already provided with (?).
After briefly having tried the script (with 4.37 U2), if I may share, here are my initial thoughts and comments:
Regarding the need to âkeep the total timing within the 20-minute windowâ as a few seem to talk about, as a newbie, I certainly DO NOT want to be timed on this. I need whatever time I can use! If the tower âyellsâ at me because Iâm too slow, thatâs fine. Maybe thereâs a way to âdeactivateâ this while learning? If not, not a problem for me.
I donât like the fact that the script zooms in so much on controls (which is fine!), but prevents us from zooming OUT to get a better view of the overall and look around.
It would be handier if the control to manipulate would be circled, as it is, but remained circled until the user actions it. Some are, but I think some arenât. It goes away after X time⌠It makes things go by too quickly sometimes.
We should be able to manipulate other controls, even when itâs not the control weâre supposed to be touching. Why? Simply because if we mistakenly set a wrong position of something, the script will still move to next step and prevent us from correcting. I initially saw this when I needed to set the ANTI-COL to 1. I had placed it to 2 with wrong mouse click and couldnât correct until further down in training.
I LOVE the fact that there is voice! Would it possible to also have the text displayed though? The problem with voice is that sometimes we need to hear the instructions / explanations another time. Is there a way we could âreplayâ it? If not, then displaying a text, on top of the voice, would help a lot too!
I know this is pushing it, but in the displayed text for each control (if itâs possible with the voice), it would be nice to get a very brief description as to what the control does, perhaps say what the acronym is short (for example, I have no clue what MSL, ILS, TACAN, etc. mean). Perhaps a reference to the âTO 1F-16CMAM-1 BMS.pdfâ maybe? I a bit overwhelmed with it all⌠But perhaps it would also be difficult not to clutter the screen with information text too.
I did come across another guyâs training script for GroundOps that uses only text for brief instructions. Although meant for 4.36, it seems to work, but with its flaws too. Unfortunately, I couldnât find the URL where I found it, but Iâve made it available through here for download if you @Dan or whomever else is interested. To check out or not for ideas. Perhaps a mixture of both or something. Just some thoughts from a newbie trying to figure out the best way to learn it all
Nevertheless, I really appreciate all the effort youâve placed into this so far. Beginners like myself can really appreciate such work!
Cheers! Patrick
