Dunc_dx key file wrong key mapping
Im not sure if i am the one doing anything wrong or if its my setup.
I am using W8.1 x64, and i followed the guides to get Foxy and CCP installed. All the axis seems to work just fine.
Cursor, Ant, RNG ++ all works fine.My problem i think is with the key file. inside BMS i load dunc_DX.key, apply, ok.
I have tried to restart the game after applying the key file but it does not seem to make any difference.All the buttons on the stick/throttle seems to control the LMFD.
Tried to re-map and i most of the keys i managed to map correctly, but coulde not find options for uncage, pickle, spd brk.Anyone had this issue before? Any solutions or tips to fix this?

It worked eventually! Had to repeat the process a few times untill it suddenly worked! Now however i’m unable to get a lock with the TGP unless i lock up something on the FCR, that works. This can’t be right as i’ve locked up targets with the TGP while not using the FCR before. In AREA mode and it wont lock on anything at all with TMS up…

If this happens just select FCR as SOI, switch steer points or press tms up to select what you want the tpg on, then switch back to TGP and press TMS down.
Hmm that doesn’t fix the issue it seems. The TGP will not slave to what i have selected on the FCR. I’ll push some more buttons to see if i can fix this somehow :s

Thanks for all the help you both provide! Question regarding the TGP! I was doing a mission where i wasn’t carrying any GBU’s but hooked up a TGpod to verify that my wingman hit his targets. Problem i was having was it wouldn’t snap on the selected WP. When moving the radar cursor around the TGPod usually follows it. TMS down didn’t do anything either. Could this be a bug of some sort?

Ok time to bother you guys again! I couldn’t find this anywhere in the manual. Say i’m doing a escort mission, where i’m in a 2 ship flight - objective is to protect a 4 ship flight! I’d like to plot that flight in the ICP so they’ll show up on my HSD. I know how to do that part, just i can’t find what number the other flight i’m protecting is? Any clues?
I’m cowboy 91-92. Other flight is panther 91-94…

If you have an accurate target steerpoint to work with, I would use the HAD. It’s going to not only allow you to fire at the maximum effective range, but the sensor display will show you if that radar is emitting - if it is, you can almost guarantee a hit. Using the POS modes if you absolutely have to (i.e. as Tyrspawn said, you’re not in a HTS equipped Falcon), use Equations of Motion (EOM). It’s the most accurate mode with a pre-determined threat. It’ll activate the HARMs seeker at 5nm from the steerpoint with only a 40 degree field of view - so unless there’s multiple radars tightly packed together and as long as there are emissions, it’ll be the most likely to hit your target.
Got it! Back to HAD mode it is! Another (lol sorry!) quick question which i think i know the answer to but would like to have it confirmed.
Sometimes when flying towards the tgt area where i know there is a SAM system, it won’t appear on the HAD, not even as a green non emitting symbol. It’s just not there untill it locks me up and fires at me. Now i guess that the HAD can’t know EVERY SAM position out there so i kinda answered my own question? hehe! And the damn radar shuts itself down once i’ve fired at it, happend twice now rendering my 88’s useless lol… Sneaky bastards! -

Do you mean PB mode? It is for pre-briefed targets - the HARM fires out with a very small sensor area and homes in on the steerpoint with a 20 degree cone from a high angle of attack. It’s for when you make a target steer point in the 2d and then switch to PB in game. Just check out page 97 in the manual.
One instance in which you would NOT be able to use the HAD is if you are in a F-16 MLU. The MLU does not support the HTS, so your only option is to use the WPN modes.
Yep, PB Mode. Once at the briefing screen i do the following -> Right click -> ground targets -> batallions -> Air Defence. Now usually wp 5 is the target location. Once in game, switch to PB mode - select WP5 & SA2 on the threat table, then fire within range.
for targets around / on my way in i’ll then recon that in the briefing screen, select the fan song, make that tgt stp 15 - click accept then go into the data cartridge symbol, select stp15 where it says fan song, then save.
They just never hit…
Hopefully that made sense my head is exhausted from failing all day

Quick question regarding your HARM Tutorial video! Think i might have asked this somewhere else on the forums but it still remains somewhat unclear to me!
Regarding the use of POS mode, in what sort of a situation would you deploy a HARM via this mode? From what i already know, and tried, is setting a tgt steerpoint right over a known SA2 location that’s not related to my flight plan.
Load that up in POS PB mode and deploy the 88 once within range. Now i’ve done this probably 50 times just today, and the missile keeps failing at hitting the designated target. Often it’ll impact close to the radar, but not close enough. This is most likely from what i’ve gathered due to the radar not emitting anything for the 88 to pickup. It just doesn’t make any sense for me to use that mode as 90% of the time the targets are not active untill i’m within range for it to fire at me.
And also it doesn’t make any sense to load up the HAD – check for the target, see if it’s active - then switch back to POS mode and fire.

There used to be an awesome amraam/BVR article on frugals that improved my chances heaps.
Basically the theory is thus:
- AS soon as you have locked up a target and have decided you are going to attack (i.e., well outside of max range), go STT (single target track) select max ab, to gain as much speed/altitude as possible. Why? Because your aircraft’s speed helps the amraam fly further and with more energy. The faster/higher you are, the more potential energy is added to your amraam that it can use for range or manoeuvring. If you fire an amraam when you are low/slow, it needs to fly uphill (against gravity) to the target, and your aircraft’s speed at launch has given it minimal extra energy on top of the limited amount its rocket motor can provide
- Once you fire, however…. crank. Basically, turn so that the target is right at your radar’s gimbal limits (i.e., on left or right edge of the radar) and hold it there until your missile goes pit bull, at which point you can break lock and disengage or lock up another target. Also, you want to make the enemy’s missile (if one is in the air) have the hardest job possible, so use all that airspeed you have gained by being in AB to climb (so it needs to fly uphill) and/or speed brake and reduce closure rate - but ensure you don’t get below corner airspeed so you can take evasive action as appropriate. You don’t want to continue at max ab/high speed towards the target, as you’re just making the job easier for the enemy’s missile (you’re closing the gap for him).
Giving your missile a helping hand with altitude/airspeed can really help it get to the enemy faster and have more energy to cope with evasive action when it gets there.
disclaimer: if you are flying air-ground, and are loaded up with stores then it may be better to simply put the fighter on the beam early, call for back up, disengage, etc.
If you’re loaded up with stores and the enemy has launched air-air fighters at you, chances are you’ll get your ass handed to you in a straight fight unless you drop stores (and thus give up your mission) to gain speed and agility. Going head to head with a mig-29 or su-27 in that situation is not a very clever thing to do….
Also - if the other guy gets a missile off first - well, you HAVE to defend against the missile - abandon the above and go defensive. Just sitting there hoping for a firing solution when you’ve got something nasty heading your way is not going to end well.
If you launch first and both shots were from long range and have not yet gone pitbull/active, well… feel like a game of chicken?

you can see and hear RWR icons and sounds of equipment right from within falcon’s tacref, as well as get detailed info on them via wdp.

I did the training mission, fired at the 4 pre-planned SAMs within very short period of time, all right below the maximum range, all hit.
Weird how mine missed then lol. I don’t “trust” the PB mode as i can’t actually see if the target i’m hitting is emitting. Both my 88’s missed most likely becouse it wasn’t active.

Ok, thanks for the answer! I just did a PB strike where i had two SA-3 radars located pre-flight. Was well within range, both missed when looking at the de-briefing screen. Do’h!

Quick question regarding your latest video! The PB mode! Why would you use this over the HAD mode? Fair enough you can pre-plot the location, however you wouldn’t get any indication of whether or not the radar is actively emitting? As opposed to the HAD mode you can actually see if it’s active or not. The only reason i could think of would be becouse from my experience most of the time the radar doesn’t pop up on your HAD untill you are close enough, or shooting at you

Hmm any advice on how to ‘avoid’ getting my ass handed to me in A-A? Generally when i fly to my target, i’ll bump into some enemy CAP(s)
We’re usually flying head on eachother, i load up my Amraam and fire it at aprox 15m out, by that time he’s also fired his rocket at me. Reason i’m flying head on is to not loose the radar contact whilst in TWS mode, if i start to turn around violently he will turn into a red marker instead of yellow, and if i understood correctly that’s when you are about to loose him… And when that happens my missile will fail. Once it goes “pitbull” i start my evasive manouvers but it’s already too late that that point.I’m reading the manual but it doesn’t sit well, complicated stuff! Trying my best to have his rocket at my either 3-9 o’clock and chucking flares/chaffs like a crazy.

Yet again, Krause you’ve teached me and probably many others something new and usefull! Exceptionally good explanation withouth going too deep so it would feel overwhelming.
Hopefully something will come up on how to deal with the various different pesky SAM systems that keeps preventing me from ever reaching my target in the campaign! And something about the different symbols on the RWS/HDS.

The degrees is for lofting the AMRAAM.
The number under that with the letter is a time to impact, go semi-active (“pitbull”) or interception, based on range. For more on this check out page 77 in the BMS manual.

Glad to hear that man! Having some good informative videos to watch alongside reading the manual makes the learning experience that much better!
Personally i think i need some practice using the TWS mode combined with using the antenna as i’ve been shot down multiple times by stuff that’s creeping up behind me, or under me or whatever… I don’t even know… grrrr!
What’s giving me a hard time is the insane amount of planes up in the air at the same time, most often fairly close to eachother so having to lock each and everyone up and “declare” takes a very long time, then doing that for a good 10 min straight trying to find that one bandit that the AWACS called out amongst the cluster of friendlies… Keeping track of which ones you’ve had declared as friendlies i find impossible too lol, so the process repeats itself till i get shot in the face by either a SAM or the bandit itself I loose the little awareness i have trying to find the bandit… :rolleyes:

Start with the first mission, the -00- RAMP START.
It will take you step-by-step into starting your engine with all the checklists already built in.
It explains each and every acronym, button, switch and system for a newbie.
I created it exactly for your kind of people, those who see Falcon sim for the very first time.
The other training scripts are not that detailed.
Maybe I will raise them to the same level as the ramp start script (given time…)I’ve done that tutorial now perhaps 5 times and i’ve yet to complete it due to issues finding the buttons described. I would give my left arm for highlighting what needs to be pressed.
I know very well that ‘hitting the books’ is the “only” viable way of ever learning, it’s just my first ever hardcore flight sim is the DCS A10 and whilst the in-game tutorials given there were for peoples who had a general understanding of how things work, and the different acronyms etc i still managed to learn a thing or two. Guess i’ve been spoiled with having a voice that walks me through things
I would’ve loved to sit down and be able to read through the manual, but it doesn’t work for me i’ve tried it time and time again. Even printed out the whole manaual for A10 but my brain doesn’t consume the stuff i readI don’t even like the A10 that much, it’s just i was drawn in by the sheer complexity and the awesome feeling when you learnt something new.
