Noob!!!! T-8 won't remove chocks?
-
Hi all, got really excited to try flight sims again after years of first person shooters when I found out that the BMS community had modded the original Falcon 4. Watching a few You Tube videos cemented the deal.
I know that learning the game is immensely challenging (500+ pages of manuals, really?), but I went ahead and got a Thrusmaster Warthog stick and throttle, a Track IR (waaaaay cool and a major reason to join), did the install fairly easily thanks to all the online instructions, loaded Morphine’s TARGET script and key file, configured everything and went to begin at square 1, the Ramp Start. Went through the checklist to fire things up and got to the very last step before taxiing.
NOW T-8 WON’T REMOVE MY CHOCKS!!!
When I hit T the Tower menu comes up, and when I hit 8 the menu goes away, but the “Chocks in Place” remains lit and I can’t taxi (yes, I released the parking brake). I’m sure my stupid noob-ness is showing but I have been trying for two nights to get it to work. (I’m using the keyboard 8, not the numeric keypad).
What in the heck am I forgetting? Note - I don’t have a DTC set up - is that part of the issue? Is there some other comm setting I need to check besides the standard Dash 1 Manual Section 2.1 Ramp Start instructions? Thanks, hope to see some of you up in the sky eventually

I am pretty sure you have to set the tower frequency to make that work. on the preset 15, set tower frequency, and you will be able not only to remove chocks, but also request taxi and so on… To do so, and an easy way, while in the 2d , before you “commit” to 3d world, click in the DTC (data cartridge) go to comms tab, set uhf frequency preset 15, and click set tower, and then save, and do not forget to set this preset 15 as default, yet in the DTC. look for some video tutorials, YT Krause video tutorials, I believe you will find many useful instructions.
It is really worth to watch. all playlists.

Thanks! Back to You Tube….

Ion the preset 15, set tower frequency, and you will be able not only to remove chocks,
Guys … please … Stop talking about this ****ing preset15. This is not true. Tower in NOT on preset 15 … it can be on any preset. 15 is only IF user is using default preset and IF he has assigned the tower freq on Ch15 … if … if … if …
So rather than talking about presets … mention the frequency … but it IS the frequency which is important. Do not confuse newbies with presets, why telling them to do two actions (assigning the preset to a channel, then selecting this preset on UHF or VHF) where only one action is required (entering the freq in UHF/VHF directly in ICP)
All frequencies are listed in the Korea Volume on Doc folder.
Once you know how to set a frequency; you can learn presets; and learn how to set presets in UI and/or via ICP in game.
-
(Sigh) Simply make sure you are already on the tower’s frequency, whether via a pre-set channel or a manually set frequency. You’d need it anyway for taxi and takeoff clearance.
-
A point of interest is you only need to be on ANY tower freq. It doesn’t have to be the tower of the airfield you are at …… for now that is.
Having said that it’s better to have the correct tower freq. set so you get the full immersion when asking for Taxi permission and TO clearance etc.

Regards MetalheadThanks for your useful post Metel, no thing wrong with your answer.
Its a pity about the abusive post, why some perps need to sink to using crude language on any forum for no valid reason ? About as helpful as this post.
I doubt he even finished read yours before slipping into a rant.

I think this is 4 times for you Dee Jay this exact situation.
-
Guys, his advice is valid and he is not attacking anybody. So please calm down.

if an ex mod was attacking someone personnaly, I’d be the first to ban him …. with pleasure
The only comment I read that could be considered a personnal attack was this:Its a pity about the abusive post, why some perps need to sink to using crude language on any forum for no valid reason ?
But not being a native English speaker I don’t know what a perps is. So I’ll leave it to the benefit of the doubt
1. it wasn’t abusive
2. it wasn’t crude
3. It was validNow what is a perps?
Anyone care to enlighten me? -
I guess you’re flying the stock Korea Theater of Operations, right? (called “KTO” for short)
Do you hear any ATC / traffic announcements?
Take a note of the airbase you’re starting from and then check its UHF / VHF frequencies using the docs folder. I generally use only UHF for tower comms. The PDF is called “Korean Volume bla bla.pdf” in the “airport approach” folder.
Once you’ve got the tower’s UHF frequency, you can enter it in the 3d cockpit as follows:
-
click on “com1”
-
enter the UHF tower frequency without the decimal point, for example 35310 followed by numeric keypad “enter” for Seosan AB in Korea
-
make sure your comm1 / comm2 volume knobs are turned on (there’s a bug where they sometimes remain at zero volume when using the “runway” option when entering a mission) Right clicking with the mouse on the knobs increases the volume, while left-clicking reduces it (I think, this is from memory, just make sure they’re turned all the way to the right)
All the best,
Uwe

PS: When doing a ramp start (I think this may be a bit overkill for a complete newbie for now), make sure you also load the DTE content after powering on the jet using the MFD.
Cheers, Uwe

perp
noun \ˈpərp\: a person who commits a crime or does something wrong
I go for a walk to the shops and I here kids/teenagers engaging in trash talk “F-ing this & F-ing that”. I go to work and have to put up with people of poor socioeconomic back ground and their doing the same thing or worse.
Then I see Metel helping a newbie get his chocks away by the simplest method and what do I see in the next post. “Guys … please … Stop talking about this ****ing…blah blah”
You might think I over reacted, that’s your choice.

thanks
we’re all in the same boat Shadow.
We all suffer from the same idiots in real life. It’s no reason to act like them on these boards.(and btw we are all someone’s idiot IRL at some point too, however clever we are or think we are

Hey my friends, Dee Jay, Shadow, Red Dog, I am ok I didn’t get offended, by any mean, so please let’s calm down…. hehehe
No reason at all to mention " ban" here hehehe

I was Under the impression we actually were all quite calm Metalhead. No worries to have
Thanks -
It is like tech support “friend” says delete system32 directory. Good intentions do not excuse bad advice. It is bad advice. How do I know it is bad advice? I helped a friend who was having problems but he only half listens.
“I can’t hear tower.” OK I can help you, first do… “Let me reset my DTC…” Look, stop and listen to me help you… “No that didn’t work let me turn on and off the radar.” …
FOR AN HOUR THIS NONSENSE WENT ON. Turns out he had the wrong procedure to correlate preset with frequency or load DTC or something but the point is he wasted 2 hours (his and mine) because there is an ignorant habit around. Obscuring true understanding with toys I see all the time and it has a big cost. Please if you know better PLEASE promote true understanding.

This is a video game, “nothing” is really serious! Relax.
I’ve used a “;)” and should maybe have employed “damn” instead of “funking” … sorry for not being as good as you are in English, me, poor “damn” French comparing to you my Australian lord.My sincere apologies to all the people suffering from going for a walk. (did you noticed the this time???) One more: …
Just for safety … let me put this one:
Good night or day everybody. (Cheers Fabrizio! )
