X55 worth getting?
-
Is the X52 Pro miles off the X55? is it still a good HOTAS to get? i’d rather have to only plug in 1 USB…think would be a problem having to have 2.
Two USB connections gives you flexibility. If the throttle or stick goes out, you can replace one without affecting the other. Are you limited on the number of USB ports on your computer?

Heck yes! My first HOTAS, added a little graphite lube to column when it got sticky. I use the software it came with to program. Works great.

Yes, though i could probably get 1 or 2 ports installed by a shop near me? not sure if they’ll do it, or can.
-
Let me know if you need a good DX profile.

Yes. Yes. No.

How many USB ports came with the computer?

I suggest you go for a ‘powered’ USB hub. This will sort out your USB limitation. Do get a ‘powered’ one though, as it’s important especially if you have other accessories also plugged in (like rudder pedals, MFDs, etc).

Also some important notes about powered USB hubs:
-If you have a device that draws power over USB (IE: for lights) this will reduce the number of usable ports on the hub. Most USB hubs only have enough power to power two or three devices, even though they might have six ports on them.
-If you have a device that charges over USB, it may not charge. This was such a constant issue with my headset and my mouse that I eventually shuffled all my gear around.- I’ve never gotten my TrackIR to work over a powered or unpowered USB hub. (Possibly related to the powered limitations above.
That being said…
I would ONLY buy a powered USB hub moving forward, unpowered ones just aren’t that useful for anything. It’s just important to be aware of the limitations.

Never even heard of a USB hub before. I’ll have to look into them, sounds a good idea getting the X55 over the X52 Pro but its still tempting to just get the X52 Pro if you all say its still a quality HOTAS which i can bind most of the important controls to.

For me the X55 vs X52 debate centers on the adjustable spring, because the resistance in all three of my X-52’s is terrible. My X-55 came with the tightest spring on it, and it changed the way I do everything in the sim.
That being said, looking at the X-55 it also has dual throttle inputs, additional buttons, and the three-way switches on the throttle are in a usable position (unlike on the X-52 which puts them on the base of the stick). There are three HAT switches on the X-52, and four on the X-55 (which made a huge difference to me). The X-52 does have a four way on the front of the throttle that is in a better position then the front switches on the throttle on the X-55, but the X-55 makes up for that with more reachable usable buttons.
I wouldn’t trade my X-55 for anything.

I, too, dumped the X-52 for all the reasons you cite. The Saitek profiler for the X55, running behind the scene, makes the DX and profiler combo more workable.

Hi all Saitek owners, so for those who have it, is the X55 worth getting over the X52 Pro? and another key factor for me is, does the X55 require two USB’s to be plugged into the PC? (one from throttle, one from stick).
CNS, I would say the x-55. I have the -55 as “in closet backup”(I have a -65), and have used a friend’s -52. Since you mention the usp issue, the only way I could get the throttle to work was to plug both USP’s directly into the pc. I tried it first via a hub, didn’t work.
-
I have a X-55 and really like it. I haven’t tried the others, so can’t comment on those.
-
I actually hadnt realised i have 2 USB ports at the front, and another 4 at the back of my tower. So i can run an X-55 and have everything else plugged in that i need to play the sim no probs. Great….so X-55 for me it is, lets look on ebay.

Good news. I thought you had an old computer based on your previous statement of “limited USB ports”.

one other consideration, are there any good BMS Profiles supporting the X55? I know there are some nice ones for the X52 Pro such as Scuby’s.
-
And i’ve just bought one so now waiting for it to be delivered. Cant wait and getting excited lol…Falcon BMS is installed waiting for me to sink my teeth into it. I’m also gona buy head tracking gear, the Delan clip and a mic to do MP. That leads me to ask this, will the Delan clip and the camera both need to be plugged into the PC by USB?

I have what I consider a good one. Need it?
