Using FLIR

Not implemented.

….well…that’s disappointing.

Hi Razo!
Can someone explain how to use FLIR and for what it’s good for in bms?
or where do i find the manual?
thanks in advance
Yep … as Amraam said, no need to look for it, FLIR it is not implemented in BMS.

Ah Razo, for FLIR (which stands for forward looking infra-red) you just use your TGP as this has two FLIR modes, white hot and black hot and it is also used as a normal TV camera too…pretty good piece of kit. I’m watching the tutorial by Krause on it now, here:

Yep.
I think it can only be mounted on older versions of the F-16 like the block 40 and in BMS you have the block 50/52.
Nope.

but who needs it anyway when you got IR on the TGP.
TGP can do none of the jobs you can do with the NVP FLIR.

Oh so what jobs can it do, what are we missing out on? and can it actually be loaded on the F16s we have in BMS in real life?
-
what jobs can it do
It can show the pilot directly on the hud view what it is in frond of him at dark. The TGP cannot provide that picture and SA to the pilot.

In real the NVP can be loaded on all planes, the customer will only need to buy the pod. The software is there by default on all blocks since block 40 and up to the latest ones.

FLIR is not modeled because in 3D cockpit the image of FLIR sould be projected on HUD on Block 40/42*, but somehow OF and BMS lost this capability. In OF was not possible even in 2D pit as I can remember and in FF only in 2D pit.
*This is why the different HUD but it was designed for LANTIRN I have no idea what are RL possibilites with later TGP + other pod. LANTIRN was the TGP + TFR+FLIR pod. I cannot remember when I saw last time F-16 with both TGP and FLIR pod. This is strange beause lack of FLIR pod F-16s do not have TFR capabillity.

They do not “lost” this, they (devs) removed it because it was not realistic, and IMO not pretty at all.

You most probably were looking for USAF pictures… lol USAF abandoned the NVP pod of LANTIRN after the Gulf war, since they upgraded their war strategy and from low & fast went high & away… It is not that these missions weren’t effective, just the(ir) technology (ehh = money + new work positions) should be updated with new $$$.
HAF, THK & IAF fly with NVP’s (plus a TGP) normally, you should wide your google searches with that words too.

I know it was unreal because you could not move the FLIR cam. as in RL and also the FOV settings did not have RL limitations, etc. But it could be improved. I guess this never will be in BMS4 again. Only question to me anybody ever set well accordingly the TFR capability is DB?

So does IFF.

What do you mean? How TFR is messed with the DB?

What do you mean? How TFR is messed with the DB?One of modeling limitation of Falcon was that availability of TFR capability which is defined by the radar. So even you did not carried LGB + pods TFR was available. This still exist.

As far as I remember rasterizing IIR picture on the HUD was a feature of FalconAF, not Falcon 4.0. Because BMS is developed from Falcon 4.0 it is not present.
Also the specification for the Block 40 included the wide HUD because if you’re going to put an image for navigation on the HUD it better not look like a vertical-filmed cell phone video. The original HUD technology in block 30, 40, 50 days was not so capable and equipment capable of projecting a video image was expensive. I think the original B50 HUD could do raster video but probably not nearly as well on the WAR HUD as on the WAC HUD and certainly not to the desired FOV for practical use.
