Can I move the camera for NAVOPS?
-
Thanks for the quick reply Dave. So if the carrier is moving, will the origin coordinates update automatically or will the ‘Boat’ slowly move away?
-
Would the eyefly camera work? This is a kind of free mouse camera described in the manual.
How about a topgun view? These are fixed views that move with the vehicle they are attached to.
-
I feel your pain.
The cameras for things like ships and ground vehicles are focused on the models origin (0,0,0) coordinates.
Currently we can only have one deck level.
I can’t think of any way to do this with the current code.
It would be a nice feature.

something i dont understand
our meatball works. the problem is that it is not visible….
why cant we use same than Papi that is visible from far distance ?

A long time ago, I remember someone mode the top gun camera and put it in the back of the two seater as a way of being the GIB. So can we do that to a carrier? If not why not make a ‘plane’ called the LSO, and have his topgun camera point out along the glideslope?

I had no idea the meatball works to be honest, but I’d agree with your statement - it’s too small and dim to be useful yet. Making it brighter/more visible would be appreciated so we can make use of it. Can it be smart scaled?

You can see it from a distance but I think the problem is that there is too much going on in a small space compared to the PAPI.
When I get some of my current work done I will go back and have another look.
If you use the external view you can see the Meatball working.
The Meatball can be seen here when closer to the carrier.
Q. At what distance should the Meatball be visible?
Q. At what distance should the Meatball be useful?
Q. Is it just a day time problem i.e. at night in the dark it shows fine?

From memory ( don’t quote me on it)
The LSO tapes I’ve seen on YouTube ask for the pilot to ‘call the ball’ about 3 miles or so out. I imagine that’s the point that they should be able to use it/see it clearly enough.
I haven’t tried a night trap yet so I’ll need to get back to you on the comparison. But besides the meatball, is there ways of doing ACLS /LSO? And although I think I know the answer, how about deck pitch/roll? -

ILS is working for carriers.
for deck pitch roll possible but not usable in MP (same problem than carrier not moving in MP)

They are not currently implemented. Yes it would be nice to have for sure.

I had no idea on ILS as well. Someone needs to do a how-to on naval takeoff/landings [emoji28]
It’s shame about deck roll but I expected as such. And as I mostly fly MP it would be better to be done right than not at all
I remember in allied force the tanker would call adjustments (up down left right forward backwards etc). Could the tower do that for glideslope or could we tune to a LSO frequency for that based on the ILS? -

Anecdotal evidence suggests that the ball is visible from up to 3 miles in most conditions, sometimes farther at night. AFAIK no sim has ever accomplished this properly
-
The “ball call” is actually at 3/4 of a mile during Case 1, 2, and 3 operations. However the ball can be used for GS guidance from as far away as you can see it. From videos I’ve watched of Case 3 recoveries and comms I think most pilots can see it clearly enough around 1.5 miles to use it.

OK
sorry about mis information
carrier ILS does not work in 4.33 …
check next update
what is the correct carrier glide path ? 3 deg ?

hey Mav check you PM’s i sent you a link that has all the info you need on it

Thanks, thought I missed something about that. I believe it’s about 3 degrees

It’s actually adjustable, but 3 degrees is the most commonly used value.

So after playing a few night traps as well, I can tell you that I can barely se the meatball and can’t make out changes until I’m so close that corrections become meaningless. What can we do to help with this? It needs more contrast and definition at distance.
Also I have been doing LSO by getting aboard first, then waving my teammates aboard by parking my hornet at the elevator on the port and aft side of the ship. It’s then just a case of using IVC and talking them in. I leave the canopy open and try to listen to the throttles (I can tell when they are making power adjustments from about a mile or so out), and I’m close enough to the wires that I can usually give good enough advice. -
expect ILS and LSO next update.
plus we need to find a way to make the meatball more visible
-
Awesome thanks. To make the meatball more visible, have you thought about a little ‘insert’ into the top right of view, similar to the top left corner’a engine rpm readout? It could be red or green text (high/low, fast/slow, waveoff etc) or maybe a 2d Sprite of the meatball that updates anytime there’s a change?
I know it’s a bit ‘game’ but have it optional? -

I know it’s a bit ‘game’ but have it optional?Something similar to the little green ADI you can get in the lower left-hand corner via a keystroke would be perfect for this.

This. I’d rather have this over the ADI in fact.
Would it possible to have it specific to the aircraft targeted on external camera?
