Just wanted to say I'm lovin' the AV8B

So much in fact that I have yet to fly the Viper in 4.33
Beautiful work on this thing guys….along with everything else

It is such a beautiful thing, ground “jiggle” aside.
I love flying it around.

I haven’t gotten the jiggles yet, Just wish the ++ was in at the start of the campaign, hope it shows up later.

Easily accomplished with Mission Commander. You could add in the new squadron at the airbase of choice or you replace the type of aircraft an existing squadron uses. I tend to do the latter to keep things “balanced.”

Does the sim allow a full VTOL takeoff and landing?

Yes and even VIFFing
Kinda hard with a button/key only control scheme on the nozzles….but if you can push the button fast enough it’s possible.

I’m loving the Harrier too. It feels like such a brawler.
They did an amazing job with it. Just sh*t loads of fun.

Enjoying flying it too. Need to learn some keystrokes for missing switches e.g. altimeter calibrate and Drift C/O switch (I think). Found the following on the web which was useful for getting the landings done a bit more realistically….

I’ve been enjoying the challenge of vertical takeoff and landing and low speed maneuvering in this aircraft. I have been involved mostly with helicopters in the various sim platforms for the last year or so. The AV8B takes a bit of getting used to insofar as remembering that you are operating a jet with a throttle to control altitude in the vertical and not the helicopters collective. I’ve messed up many otherwise good approaches and landings right in the final phase of the vertical touchdown when I forget what I’m in and my brain switches to “auto” and I lower the “collective” to get weight on wheels and find myself shooting back into the air!
Vertical landings on a moving Carrier I find a challenge as well. It seems very easy to lose sight of the landing area on the deck in the vertical phase as well as time consuming to match speed and maintain it. I suppose this is what makes this aircraft fun and challenging. In reality, a normal, albeit low speed trap seems a much more efficient way of recovering these aircraft on deck but I’m determined to master the vertical landing just for the sake of it.
Regarding the aircraft’s controls, can anyone tell me if is possible to assign the nozzles position to an axis? At the moment I’m using BMS 4.33 Boxer’s profile for the Warthog and it would be good to have the nozzle position assigned to the throttle friction axis.

Not possible at the moment ti looks like to assign to an axis. See if your control software for your joystick can assign an axis to key presses. I use this and assign my slider axis on my CH FighterStick to inc / decr key presses for the nozzles. Works pretty good, albeit still in 10deg increments…which I assume is the way it is in the real jet.
