X52 PRO or X55?
-
Just check the fuel flow gauge. There is a huge jump from mil to ab.
-
And the nozzle opens in AB as well.
-
As you can see there is no shortage of people saying the x52Pro is great , the x55 is great, and the same for everything else.
Watch video reviews, take in the ‘details’ about what people are saying and weed out some of the “personal opinions”. At the end of the day this will be your hotas, its what you will be living and dying with (virtually of course). Little things like single stage trigger may be important if you want to fly certain aircraft. Not having idle detents, again may be important to you based on what you like to fly. Here are some thoughts/suggestions.
- Think about if you will be playing other games that will use a joystick, some of high end HOTAS doesn’t always work out the best for other games. Many prefer something like an x52 for star citizen or elite dangerous over their top end TM Warthog.
- If you are able to wait another 30-60 days or so, you are at the perfect time of the year for this. Use a site like slickdeals.com, and setup and account, once you do you can create an alert for the one you want, or even the TM Warthog if you really want that. This time of year you can find the WH for around $350, maybe less… i got mine for $348 during holiday sale. Fry’s had it on sale, then amazon matched the price. Regardless, you can put alerts on slickdeals for any/all and look for a good deal. Sometimes the deals are from less known sites, so if that happens try and get amazon to match it, usually they will :). Also watch some of the common forums, like here, the DCS forum and other sims forums as they will tent to post when there is a really good deal, but usually just for the WH so this parts up to you.
overall its pretty personal thing, few people have had the chance to try many different sticks so they will tend to say theirs is great unless its broke (myself included). so just go through as much info as you can, and look at the details and features you want or done want, think about the different games and will the buttons be enough, are there enough hats, so on.
If you just cant decide, start with the x52Pro, its cheap enough and very functional, and then you can take time to save for a better one. -
Thanks Blu3wolf, the nozzle is definitely a better indication than the fuel flow to know if you are on ab.

Thanks for all of your replies. I am on the fence between the X55 and the CH Fighter Stick and Throttle. I have not heard a single negative review about them. The X52 also does not resemble a military style. It looks too “futuristic”
In all of my searching I have come across this Elite Dangerous game quite a bit.

Then buy the cougar and a rudder as well and accept the pricetag which comes with it and prepare for some modding and expensive repairs to.
X-55 can not compete as far as looks and feels is concerned with Cougar, and yes I own a ……X-55Choosing the X-55 made me not regret it for a moment.

Went with the X55!

Went with the X55!
Hi WombRaider, please let me know how it’s going with the X55. I’m trying to get my TM Warthog setup to work right in BMS with the available profiles and am having tons of trouble, not with the TM but with profiles. Also, the warthog is great and has many functions but the joystick is just way to stiff. I’ve been doing some research as well and I won’t get anything that doesn’t have dual throttles.
Thanks

I have a x52 pro and i really don’t need any other device.
i bought it 7 years ago, it still works as the first day.
Thanks to softwares i managed to get ALL the HOTAS + throttle functions assigned
and the MFD gives me usefull informations. I recommand to use Raptor utility for the mfd -
Would definitely go with the X-55 over the X-52 Pro. I had a X-52 Pro before and and the X-55 stick I use now is definitely more precise and should give less long term issues as it uses hall effect sensors. The functionality on the stick is a better fit for BMS too as well in my opinion. The only real disadvantage of the X-55 stick compared with the X-52 is the absence of a dual stage trigger.
The X-55 throttle has more functionality than than the X-52 and overall also fits better for BMS in my opinion. The X-55 throttle still uses pots though so likely will get a bit spiky over time similar to how my X-52 went. Also the dual-throttle is good for multi-engine planes.

Best thing in X-55 is Price , cost me only 179euros and you get lots of buttons for that price.
But Throttle pot’s are cheap crap again (saitek quality) and wheels are bit jumpy after one year of heavy use so….
Ministick is shitty , it was better in X-52pro , in X-55 it is just crap.
Stick is ok, bad ergonomics but hall sensor as in X-52pro so it will last longer than Throttle.
I opened my X-55 and dadaa! Saitek is crap -> hall sensor is quite loose, moves 1-2mm so thats why many test write that center position is not 100% perfect… Easy to fix but cant understand why its not secured better in factory

Here is my new setup.
Overall I am pleased with my purchase. There are a few grapes I have. Some of the hats witches are a little loose but they function perfectly. And the mouse nipple is nonfunctional as far as I can tell. But all the buttons!

I have had Saitek X52 , XF65 and original HOTAS Cougar, Th Warthog. The Warthog is cool, but not really all that it’s cracked up to be. Yeah… It is heavier, it is USAF endorsed (what ever that was worth), All of these sticks have their place. Saitek is good if you get one with no issues as their quality control is hit/miss. So buy a Saitek from a dealer you can return it to to replace if needed. I still have my Saitek Fighter Jet Rudder Pedals! Those are heavy and cool! The stick I use is CH Fighterstick USB and Pro Throttle USB. I found some reviews that convinced me to try as opposed to buying another Warthog. I sold mine. The Ch really surprised me! It’s made in USA - 970 Park Center Drive ,Vista Calif. All you do is plug it in USB and your system will recognize it. You then calibrate it through your windows operating system. Your game will recognize it and all I did was choose what button I wanted to do what function. I like a hornet so I was concerned about twin engines. This thing works both engines just like one no problem. In the event of a right or left engine fire, just shut one off. With this CH gear the Tech support was very helpful. I had some questions since there is not much written that comes with it. The Controller softwear that you can download on the CH website is not necessary. Tech support explained to me that it is a very old program and used for more advanced people who are programing a higher end level of stuff. His example was how many use Ch for real flight sim credits for comerical airlines certification. CH is actually a serious company. On the Ch there are three lights on both the throttle and Flight stick. With a touch of a button I can switch to either light. Each light is a whole new programable configuration. There is plenty here to do more than everything. I don’t need a load of cool looking switches. I had problems with a few of my warthog switches and the Warthog and most of these sticks require drivers. The Warthog had that large book and claimed to be an advanced program, but it is not really needed for these applications plus it’s not really that helpful in the end. On the Fighter stick there is a old school Roll trim knob and a throttle dial. The buttons are very rugged and for just programing and playing the darn sim, I was quite surprised. All these sticks here mentioned I did well with. Except the X65F! That was weird! I realize it has been about 6 months but I just felt like saying this much cause Saitek makes a system about every two years. CH has had this set up for about 20 years. CH Fighter stick-Pro Throttle USB, Saitek Fighter Jet Rudder Pedals, TM MFD displays, TrackIR5. For each his own. What did you end up with and do you like it?
-
Ok ;p) I see!! Awesome! I do like that Saitek system! They don’t make it anymore and the new one is geared more for space flight. I like your MFDs! I’m getting into those now. I want three monitors too! Can you show us a picture of it on in the dark? I took electronic lamps and removed the spring metal arms. Converted them into mounted fixtures under the front of my table between my legs with a custom board mounted so my stick can sit right front center , low. Same thing with the throttle. Yours here is positioned just about the same though.
