Nevada-Fallon Test Range 4.33
-
I’m all for making the terrain as true to life as possible, based on Google Earth or topo map info - how much time/effort/disk space would something like that take?
-
Idk. I am still doing some research and may wait for Peregine software to be fully released before I start.
-
You’re making me curious about just how this is done…I’ll be following.
-
One thought I have is to not make the airbases different, or to only use a select few of the stock airbases and to then limit the number of airbases in the theater. As that should help save some tiles.
Good idea
that will also limit the amount of work for nav stuff and airbase stuff.
with my airbase, navigation and Kotar experience, I would advise to stick with 5-6 airbases in total, a lot of MOA, two three different ranges (or maybe more) that will be more than enough for a specific training terrain allowing many different scenarios.
With a decent navigation suite and support, it’s a great initiative.
I have been dreaming of Nevada in BMS since flying Falcon 3.0 And that’s now the only reason why I go DCS from time to timeI already did some work on Nevada ideas but none were brought to conlusions. I hope yours will
here’s a prototype of the ONC map I did ages ago:
-
I am thinking 6-8 airbases total (with two different AB designs).
For Sure: Nellis (KLSV), NAS Fallon (KNFL)
Almost certain: Tonopah Test Range, Groom Lake (KXTA), Wendover Air Base, Hill Air Base
Potential: LAX, Luke AFB, Edwards AFB…
I am reading and researching Red Flag to see the areas, bases, and get an idea of how it works. That way I can use bases that are used for it.
I am looking at doing four ranges total. 2 for Fallon (Bravo 19 and Bravo 20) and 2 for Nellis. I may look at including TE’s for each range. I have thought about doing some TE’s for Fallon that mimic Top Gun hops.
I would like version 1 to have atleast one working Red Flag campaign. In future versions we can include additional campaigns.
I also like the water in the corner because we can park a carrier there and fly navops to the ranges…

There was an interesting document on DCS a few days ago, let me see if I can find the link

I’d suggest adding Chreech AFB as well, if you are going to go as far south as Nellis…it’s a simple one, and in the area. And if you’re going as far south as KEDW, then you should include KNID - since you are doing the Navy thing as it is!
That actually makes more sense than a CV, really.

@Red:
found it back:
http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2590146&postcount=27This, in concert with the Range User’s guide I posted below should make for some serious operational detail…droool…

I think I properly corrected your post…changes in bold and underlined for effect
Seriously though…please include Hill. I’ve spent some considerable time at Hill and I’ve been dying to fly there in BMS ever since.
-
…wow…all the way to Utah? This theater would cover the entire west coast Test Complex…for that matter, why not go all the way south to MCAS Yuma? I’ve spent some time there…
…Fly Navy…er…Go Marines!

Sweet, there goes the next two hours of my life…

I couldn’t remember the code.

There will be a limit, the working parameters at the moment are 1 km per title. So I am working with that to determine the full scope. If peregrine is released I may look at doing a second theater as Southern California that could include San Diego, Yuma, and have a Mexico vs US campaign.
That is if I don’t strangle myself trying to do this one…
-
Well, IF it would be possible, why not to be included the loved MCAS Miramar (KNKX)…?
Everybody who love F-14, love also this airbase. Nickname “Fightertown USA” home of TOPGUN
The map would be expanded a lot then…

Nikos. That is one reason I like NAS Fallon is because it is the new TOP GUN.
I believe it is outside the scope of what is possible at the moment. I am researching Theater sizes now and determining what that equates to in terms of real land area.
-
Forget “just” TOPGUN, the entire NSAWC curriculum could provide for some interesting training scenarios. Combine that with possible FLAG (Nellis) and NTC (Ft. Irwin) events in this theater, the scenarios are endless. Combine all that with the real-world bases scattered all over the map and it gets downright entertaining.
Sidenote: I see you’re in Killeen: Sorry!
-
Yes, I sleep to the sounds of Howitzers/tanks all night long…
Although the only aircraft I get to see are Chinooks and Apaches or the occasional C-5/C-17 going overhead.
-
We spent 6 years there, can’t say I miss it. Back on topic: best of luck with this endeavour. If it turns out anything like a few past adventures in the NV theater, it’s gonna be a fun ride!
