ALT + TAB increases FPS!
-
Hi,
today, I’m flying Tiger Spirit, I wanted to have a look on utilization from my CPU. So ALT + TAB and again ALT + TAB to go back into the sim and the FPS increased ~10 FPS. Reproducible…

Known from the old days. How long do they stay there?
IIRC it goes back to normal after a few minutes.
You can disable desktop and gain the fps via gamebooster. -
Like Arty said, it’s known but I’ll try this tonight, I seem to be having fps issues.

The only problem is, that sometimes you (ok), I have a freeze if using ALT + TAB, that is seriously bad e.g. in the middle of a long flight.

Same with me. I’ve noticed that going to WDP, for example. In fact, it happens often enough I use the Window key to get in and out of WDP

Alt-tabbing with Falcon is playing with fire. You risk a CTD.
-
Not if you run windowed.

in 2D, yes, in 3D (fullscreen), I never had any issue.

As said before I noticed that doing Alt-Tab out and back in 3d I notice a more smooth and faster rendering. Also noted that when I do this I loose the texture extraction. Maybe it’s something related to this.

Just made another test…
But now (a TE with 8 flights) with joining again in the air (a three ship Training flight, only flying).- I joined with ~73 FPS, after 3 or 5 minutes FPS drops to ~56
- After ESC + E, I joined again (it took < 1 minute) and FPS was again at ~75
To inform, no need for a further discussion.
Thanks

So pretty much what was said.
There is a magical fps shortcut.
And it’s exactly the same as showing up fps. What it does? Doesn’t show fps when u already had it on.So use it.
Second forget totally the fps counter shortcut and enjoy it.

As I “also” already wrote: I do not believe, that it is a “fault” of my rig…this magical FPS drop.

This I do not (really)! No… I cannot (really).
Why: Because you always need a *big reserve of FPS (campaign, TFR, FLIR, WEAPON, TPG, explosions, etc.).
E.g. I have noticed a FPS difference from TE to campaign of ~50FPS! (Cockpit view: TE= ~73 FPS, Campaign= (sometimes) ~22 FPS)IMO, it would be really nice, if the “FPS-behaviour” can be improved…
TIA for accepting my request.
