Central Europe Theater

Hey,
All new airports (12 until now) are all WIP. The youtubes you can see are after about 2-3days of work (about 10 hours per day) on each airport.
This includes creating the tiles, adding all the auto tree stuff, creating new models for runways and others, adding all the features, adding all the taxipoints which are about 500-1000 points per airport.
And still doing coding stuff in between.
So if something is not 100% yet… it has its reasonsGr Falcas
-
I think it looks great for a WIP that it is. One question Falcas, Are you gonna give the same love to Danish airbases?
Keep up the good work - look forward to one day fly in this theater.
Greetings
-
Wow that looks very good already!! Nice to see the progress on this area
As I can see, Ingolstadt (Germany, Bavaria) is on the southern edge of the map, so are you planning to establish ETSI Manching Airbase too?
As you might know, the Eurofighter is buildt there! -
I hope that other DB changes will come with theather. I made quite a good progress for the doc. which will explain what should be modeled on WPACT side and how can be done at least one way using one aspect. Of course is there mor than one aspect.
-
Sure for a wip and a one man show this is more than WOW.
-
Yeah, but WTD61 would have not much influence in such a scenario - not more than any other civ. airport as well.
Erding and Neuburg would be much more important. -

No doubt Falcas. Am I guessing correctly that you currently just use highres tiles? I’m just curious, cause that was one of the things I didn’t know how to build in an efficient way.

Hey NIL,
Yes that is the plan. But all in due time.
At this time CET has around 150 airbases, so it won’t be done tomorrowGr Falcas

As you might know, the Eurofighter is buildt there!Ingolstadt is include at this time as one of the default (Korea) airbase, so flying from there is possible.
The plan is to do as many airports that can be done, so also this one.
But this depends a bit on how things progress. Do I run into a certain limits or not.
Tile limit is one of those, although I have a possible solution for that which I am about to test.
I’ll show the results later on if this plan works. There are also other limits, so I have to see how far I can push it.
Don’t forget, Europe is a lot different than most other theaters as it is much more dens with cities, airports, rivers with bridges ect.
Not only does this needs a lot more work, but also give a lot more practical problems.I am in Korea a couple of times a year and I can say that Korea in BMS does looks a bit like it, but lot of things are not.
Once you are flying over the country you know and recognize, you see a lot of differences.
Take an example of Marken in the Netherlands. Its a very small island in a inner lake.
Totally not important for any combat at all. But for someone living in the Netherlands, especially flying IRL, it would just look weird not having that there. So… its in CET

Erding and Neuburg would be much more important. This is only the case when you are thinking about a 100% realistic scenario.
Which is not possible anyway. I lived in the 80s, so I must have been too drunk or in a deep wintersleep… Did I miss a RL war in europe? All jokes aside, building a theater is not about making a RL campaign. Its about making a terrain/theater where you can fly.
Meaning, flying TEs and operations from the airbase/area you like.
There are plenty of squadrons flying MIL ops with FSX, not shooting one missile, but flying in the area they like.
One of the reasons why I am adding all little airports as well, including grass runways.Gr Falcas

The tiles are created in 2084x2084. However, testing has shown that the extra large size (5mb compared to 1MB) is not giving much better result ingame.
So ingame tile used are 1024x1024.The process of making these for one airbase is pretty simple but has a couple of steps to get it right. It takes a couple of hours at the most.
This is only possible because I created a new set of runway features. It makes no sense to try to make these with the default runway sections.Gr Falcas

Thank you for your detailed answer Falcas! I love your project
Would be really awesome, if its possible to include Ingolstadt as an individual airbase
I live near to that (45mins on street) -
Damn, looks like LOXL just fell of the lower right corner, so no EF sorties starting there for me

A campaign scenario featuring a soviet invasion through the Fulda Gap could be interesting and, of course, was the subject of many RL war games.

Anyway, on my own I second that.
Please keep on updating us about. With best regards,

And as I know only in NATO’s imagination existed this, WPACT did not planned to use that route…
One thing is sure, this theater needs a totally different DB from existing one. -
And as I know only in NATO’s imagination existed this, WPACT did not planned to use that route…
One thing is sure, this theater needs a totally different DB from existing one.Even this is not true, NATO expected WarsawPact everywhere.
West Germany was divided in zones and assigned to a country to defend.
The Fulda gap happens to be in the US assigned area and thus the most talked about. The flat planed of northern part of Germany where assigned to the Netherlands and the UK.
That is why you see airbases like Bruggen, Wildenrath and Gutersloh, Britisch and Spangdalhem, Bitburg ect, as US bases.Gr Falcas
-
You have any useful photo material of Wildenrath? I found the sources to be very sparse esp. of the tower and flightline.

Hey,
It has been quiet for some time… is CET dead or still going on?
Well I can tell that CET is still very much alive and being worked on.However, for those who don’t know, you don’t build a theater in a day or 2. It takes a lot of work.
As you can read in the first post, this theater is not to be finished as soon as possible but is a test for creating/improving tools.
So have a look here and you can see an example of what some of the results are.Gr Falcas
