From Yellow to Red
-
In TE Training TR433_12_Harm, the WEZ changes from yellow to red after firing the Harm. What does the changed color mean?
-
Do you mean the SAM threat circle on the HSD MFD ? If yes, have a look if the aircraft symbol is in or outside the threat circle. Out is yellow. Red is in.
I would really, really encourage you to read the manuals.
-
Sounds odd. I don’t/didn’t think it’s the HARM. Should be Yellow when your AC is outside the circle and red when YOU enter the threat zone.

Thanks for the answer. I really, really did read the manuals, but I missed it. Still can’t find it. Where is it?
-
I have never seen the HARM WEZ any other color than green. AA units that are marked with a threat circle are yellow until you enter the threat circle, then they turn red. You may be talking about the AA radar emitter which will be:
Green = emitter not active
Yellow = emitter active
Red = emitter tracking
Flashing Red = emitter launchingAside form that I have no clue about the HARM WEZ changing color.
If you are more specific about what you are asking then it would be easier to point you to the pub that explains it. Are you asking about the HARM WEZ, the emitter or the threat circle? It is hard to tell because you have described something that has traits from several different systems yet is not completely present in only one.

I was talking about the sam threat circle but incorrectly described it as the HARM WEZ. Thanks to the replies from you, Leech and Agave_blue I get it now that the circle will turn red when my plane enters the circle, but I still can’t find that in the manual.

You was talking about PPT (Pre Planned Threat) circle. It has nothing to do with HARM nor HTS.
It turns red when you enter the range.
Almost every PPT has such range circle. Just place PPT in GUI when planning mission and assign a proper type of threat for it. -

But all you guys keep saying that the circle turns from yellow to red when ownship enters the circle. I believe that now, too. I started this thread after really, really Reading The Flight Manuals. Where in the F manuals does it say that the circle changes from yellow to red?

BMS User manual Pg 75. 6.2 Preplanned threats
Also HARMs are in 34-1 manual on pg 168 if you’re interested.

I think that tells you how to access, create, place and use PPTs. But I also do not see anywhere in the manuals a note indicating that when your own-ship crosses a threat ring that ring will change color on HSD to indicate your ‘trespass’.
-
I’m not sure it even says that anywhere in the manuals. I’ve always just taken that as common sense that it would change colour to indicate I’ve entered a danger zone.

Yes, I too learned it by observation, or word of mouth, or some other such method. The OP’s point (as I understand it) is that he was directed to ‘read the manuals’, but this little tidbit doesn’t seem to be in manuals.
-
Well i suppose small little things like this won’t always be remembered to be entered into the docs.

I Apologize. It is no where to be found in the manuals. I’m sure Reddog and Darkman will address the issue.

Sorry buddy, you should have been right and it should have been in the docs. I guess it is so natural a behaviour that we omitted it. We will eventually coorect it

Face it RD; if the manuals were perfect you’d be something more than human and have nothing to do for the next release
The manuals are still one of the bigger improvements from 4.32.
