Whilst doing the “boxes” on AAFB I ran across this picture:……
Soooo…I took a few Falcon minutes to model it “Somewhat”……LOL in Guam.
Here U go:Yeah, I already know the Feature is backasswards, gotta rotate it 180……LOL!!
BUT, it is still Kewl I think.
Going a little forward with “Transparency” without textures…The last pic shows that we can render splines pretty successfully in BMS……;)
(There IS a Poly cost, be careful)BTW the Poly count on the Hanger is <3000 adding the B52 put it >30K…Oh, well…FPS is fine

So gents here is a video that we should pay attention to.
I used this to “Populate” the buildings on AAFB Guam. I will do a city or town next just to vet POConcept.
The only problem I ran into was the depth of pixels on the tile converted to plane. I solved this by converting the “HUGE” image to Greyscale and then refining the edges.
This is a handy little plug-in that promises a lot for PR tiles\cities in Falcon……very LoPolyHave FUN!!!
demerBTW: Just so we know, I did not use the Textures as explained in the video. I am “Mapping” with materials only in Guam. Saves a bit of memory……LOL!

How are you?Why do you step back to the 80s? Ptype 9 is friendly for the first two LODs, for the rest you can use Ptype 5.

As far as Ptype, I try not to mix them up that much for now per Wavey Daves advice.
Remember I am NOT using textures to render any of the add on models in Guam.
Also the PR tiles in GUAM are a HUGE FPS hit, so anywhere I can save Tris is “Polys in the Bank” so to speakBTW!!! I have seen\experienced a vast improvement in U1 when it comes to the PR tiles. In that I still get the 13 FPS “stutter” when first rendering them in the frame. BUT once rendered it smooths out!!!

It has been a minute or two…LOL!! Since we have posted some work from Guam POC. So here goe’s:
IT can be any SAM type you desire and it does shoot at you and is detected by your RWR.
BUT the “Missiles” it shoots are only Data and do not take you down
Your Mission screen will show that you did get hit, though points are not working ATM….sigh (WIP)
I think this could be FUN in a Red Flag scenario.Cheers,

When you said “missiles are only data”… you mean they are virtually simulated (the hit or miss), or they actually shoot something physical (with 0 damage value or similar)?.Simulated stuff is ok… though one of the most interesting things in a SIM is to have what you cannot get in reallity (for training)… (yep, I don´t like simulating simulations)… My point is that is better to have something physical IOT react to it.

Yes and no, and I am not being cryptic here.
The POC uses a “Physically Virtual” Polygon for the missile model (Just a “point” flying at you)……we can include the full Model, as I did for someone else with an AIM9. The problem with that approach is the Missile flies through the\your plane. Not very realistic, but does give you some SA visually. In RL ,as I understand, pilots today are being taught\trained to rely on the Instrument Systems. This is why we are seeing a plethora of Threat Emitters in RL today. From MUTEs to UC drones.
All in all, for what it is worth, the Falcon CODE\DB supports this type of work. Thanks BMS Team!!!Cheers,

So it has been a minute since last post, BUT work continues as time permits on many POC’s in GUAM theater.
Example:B4 we go and say this is an “Adaption” of Cannons work for Hellas….NO it is not. This is a continuation of the work on ROTA airbase but with much better results in DX rendering ;). Saipan, sadly, was the last island PR tiled in GUAM and at the time Vags nor I had good imagery. It suffered a bit from that. So my work in the last Falcon weeks was to bring it up to the same standard of PR tiles as the rest of GUAM. Almost there…the Airbase is my “BABY” for now.
The pix show a much simpler technique to derive the feature of the runway\taxiways as rendered in game. BUT it forced me to using …cough,cough…TEXTURES!!! to achieve the results!!!..aaaarrggghhh!!!

It is OK though because in GUAM the Koreaobj folder is MUCH smaller than stock BMS. Whew!!!
As soon as Saipan is finished we will have a new Guam POC Beta released…2-4 Falcon weeks…LOL!!!Kind regards,

Sooooo….it has been a Falcon minute…BUT it has taken this long to Proof a Concept, here are the results:
This Airbase\Runway Feature (Model) is 2 Polygons i.e. a rectangle, as well, the Texture associated with it is 10240x10240……WOW!!!
You might say…but we only load it ONCE and it gives us a lot of “Room” to add to the texture. I plan ATM to have only two textures that cover ALL of the AB’s in theater. Hmmmm riddle me that Batman…LOL!!!
We might ask why not use the provided stock BMS rectangle model’s???..NOT Photoreal…these are,they match the tiling
I would like to thank CCC for sending me down this “Rabbit Hole” I think it was worth it…LOL!!!tired Demer
