Change the camera angle?
-
I’m using an “improvised” headtracking setup with Facetracknoir and a webcam tracking my eyes. It works fine for looking up and side-to-side, but looking down is a pain for whatever reason. Is there a way I can change the default camera angle a few degrees down so that I can see the MFDs at the same time as the HUD?

If I got correctly what you mean, it should be possibile to adjust the offset positions of your webcam somewhere in the options of FTNoIR… sorry if this is a bit vague, but I switched to OpenTrack some months ago and can’t remember exactly where those settings were located in FTNoIR.

I don’t want to adjust facetracknoir, I want to know if I can adjust the view angle in the BMS cockpit.

I don’t know how facetracknoir works,
but I’m using TrackIR4 here and once I’m in the pit I’m able to “reset”
the center view with a keystroke. If you can do the same then simply look a little higher, then reset your view.
Now if you look straight forward you should see more of the lower cockpit. If that don’t work, then your sensor might be out of limit to track you
while looking down.I hope that helps.
Cheers,

There is a recenter (or at least should be) function for ftnoir, but I believe the OP is having problems with not being able to look down far enough, or wants to edit fov.
The later should be in falcon.ini is it?
The former needs to be editted in ac dat files (so some say that this is no longer the case in 4.33? haven’t tested)https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?7801-TripleHead2Go-and-BMS&highlight=fov should be most of the steps. (triplehead2go, nvidia surround, ati…same steps iirc)

There is a config option to globally set the look-down amount in the cockpit. I think this is, in part, because some AC blocks have different look-down limits. The config option normalizes that for all AC. I think the max is 90*.
Recenter head-tracking in a normal seating position, then lean back and look slightly up and re-center again will also act as a slight look down in a normal seating position, or allow for less head down movement to see the MFD’s, etc.

When I recenter my facetracknoir it just recenters the view to default. Moving my head up or down a little bit sorta solves the problem, but what I’m asking is whether or not it’s possible to change the default camera angle in BMS, regardless of if I have headtracking or not.
EDIT: to clarify, what I want to do is change the angle of the default resting camera position down a few degrees so I can see the MFDs at the same time as the HUD. This is the camera position you’d see when you load in the sim, without moving the camera at all.

I don’t think you need to adjust anything in the game if you’re playing at 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio, right? This is a head-tracker problem, not a software-edit problem.

Look up a bit, then recenter in that position. This position will be the default view, of you look straight ahead, the view will rotate down a bit. Play with it until the results are ok for you.
Edit: sorry, same answer as Lazystone and Blue [emoji16]

Is there an answer to the O.P. question? I would like to set the 3d pan home position tilted down a bit also. Doing the head tilt reset thing is very annoying. I would like to reset and be able to see the MFD’s without any fiddling around.

How does that solve the problem?

Put the MFDs on your second screen and extract the MFDs to that screen. Then you wont need to bother with the annoyance of the “head tilt reset thing” which happens to be the only other workaround.

That’s way more involved than I want to get.
So the answer is that there is no way to edit the cockpit home orientation other than FOV?

On page 122 of the manual, it shows how to get the cockpit view I’m after by pressing 3 twice (Pan Pit View). When I do this in game, the view doesn’t shift at all. Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong? It is in section 9.6.2.3. I would like to be able to see the MFD’s without having to look down.
Thanks

Yep.
