The everyday simmer probably doesnt have a spare twenty thousand dollars to put towards buying new, MIL SPEC gear… I certainly dont.
That on one item comes close to my higher estimates for what my pit will end up costing.

I didn’t notice since I tried the WH TQS. Once I changed back to Cougar one and I wondered where the smooth went. Well, some cleaning could help but 8bits are 8bits. I have a hall pot ready to be installed with Arduino adapter.
CheersA TUSBA R2 will get you 12 bit resolution…without the hard work of a conversion. I’ve done both, and have a 12 bit board converted and TUSBA R2 adapted Cougar TQS’s and I’d put either one up against a Hall converted TQS any day. TUSBA is the easy way to go, and you see results.

Isnt the throttle PCB only reporting 8 bits? Ive not bothered looking into it… I figure the end product is going to be on a different board for me, once I get the long throttle arm it will probably get wired through PoKeys.

I’m not sure the TQS PCB reports anything but direct analog voltages. All TQS signals go through the stick PCB for output to USB, and that reports 10 bits…if I remember right. But that’s part of what makes it easy to convert the TQS…you just have to give up Foxy, TARGET, etc. because they program the stick PCB - that’s where the Cougar “brains” reside.
I have another TQS that I modded directly with a 12 bit Bodner board for direct USB hookup sometime before the TUSBAs existed - the handling of that one and the TUSBA R2 one are pretty much identical; but I have no idea if the TUSBA interprets or interpolates. I just know it works way better than stock from a handling/feel standpoint.

Oh sorry. You wrote inaccurate? I thought you meant with the look and design. There is some differences between the TQS and the real F-16 TQS but I think they did a pretty good job at making it accurate.
Well, actually it is pretty different from real F16 TQS. I’m building a full pit myself…
I found more inaccurate Cougar that Warthog TQS. But it is good anyway.

CheersOK, TQS is the throttle… I think you are referring to the stick. And yes I would agree the Warthog stick is more accurate than the Cougar stick. I use the warthog stick myself. But I don’t understand for the life of me how the warthog throttle would be more accurate than the Cougar throttle. So you must be referring to the stick?

Personally whilst watching fuel flow I’ve always seen instant reaction to cougar throttle movement. Only the detents causing jerks if I’ve badly positioned AB in setup.

Definatly an option. I just cant fly to save my … in certain situations-such as air refueling. The deadzones are so bad that i cant keep the jet stable long enought to connect longer than a couple seconds. Fine adjustments just dont happen. Ill take a look at the mods.
Another thing to look at….i had the same problem with X52. Couldn’t keep it stable, poor return to center etc… did the magnet mod and it didn’t help. Took the stick apart and the little board where the ps2 cable goes in…i just resoldered all the pins and this thing is damn precise now. worth a try if you have a soldering gun!

The stock Cougar is only 8 bit resolution = 256 step axis. TUSBA is 12 bit 4096 step axis. Warthog is 14 bit resolution 16384 step axis (maybe a bit overkill :)).
The difference between 256 steps and 4096 steps is quite noticeable, since the size of each step/increment in 8 bit is quite large. The difference between 4096 and 16384 is not so much since the size of the steps on both are so small you can hardly notice the difference. Law of diminishing returns very much applies here. -
Was just perusing this thread and noticing a lot of folks still using the Cougar like i am. A genteleman over on the DCS forums put together an affordable, easy to install, hall sensor mod for both the Cougar throttle and stick for anyone who might be interested. The mod is easy to install, and more improtantly, it just works. Somewhere in that thread is a link to a video showing how its done. There’s plenty of pictures as well showing what it looks like.
