Whatever happened to the old F-16 damage model?
-
I’m talking about how when you crash or get shot down pieces of your F-16 fly off everywhere. It seemed pretty realistic, moreso than the model now which is all one piece AFAIK.
I remember pieces of the F-16 used to separate when hit / destroyed, now it all just explodes as one piece. Loved killing an enemy with Sidewinders and watch bits fly everywhere in Allied Force.
Does anyone know why this was removed?
-
Well if it was in allied force, then it wasnt removed - it was just never added. BMS is not descended from AF. AF is an uncle, or an older brother - they both have a common ancestor, but stuff added in AF was not in BMS unless it was also added separately to BMS.

…if you’re dead, you shouldn’t see anything…right?

Thats besides the point. Seeing pieces blown apart by your sidewinder is nice eyecandy indeed.
-
From what I can remember, it was never possible in Falcon. Only the gear can have detached pieces above 300kts.

Nope, just tried it in Falcon 4.0 1.08. Try crash landing, or hitting a building, or getting blown up by a missile. While a wing-detached F-16 spinning like mad on the ground is not realistic, I like it better than the “poof” animation in BMS where it just disappears in a cloud of smoke.
Would it be possible to improve the damage model for BMS?

See my latest post. Same model is in Falcon 4.0 original.

…oh yeah - you should see the other guy die. When you live.

This post is deleted! -
Well it actually makes it easier to see a splash, and is pretty cool when you die as well.

This is not removed it’s not done in the sense it needs ppl create the destroyed pieces then IIRC the Particle system kicks in and displays the broken parts.
This can be done with current 3d models exported and imported to 3dsmax and broken down repaint and import also some Particle system tuning might be needed with secondary explosions.
An overkill work as you understand to display the same parts every time. So here we are.Sent from TapaTalk
