Joystick recommendations?
-
So my TM HOtas Cougar died today. (The funeral is friday at 2pm) Looking for suggestions for joystick/throttle/pedal recommendations.

What is dead (broken) on your COUGAR ?

Are you in the usa ?
I have one of those if you want it -
Sadly.no. I’m in Canada.

I am in the UK and have a non upgraded cougar stick that I am happy to sell. I went to a TM Warthog and I am happy - although I do wish for a proper F-16 TQS.

rmax You can use your Cougar TQS with the Warthog stick. Either leave the cougar setup plugged in but only use the TQS or get a TUSBA from Realsimulation to connect just the TQS to the computer.

As for the broken gimbal in the Cougar:
A commercial FFB type conversion kit will cost you around the 600 - 700 CAD. They are reasonably easy to fit and support is available.
The DIY FFB conversion is less reliable. more fiddly but is considerable cheaper. Assembly and setup are more involved but help can be got from the forum.
TM sell the Warthog Stick in a stand-alone package which (see comment above) can be used with your Cougar TQS. Cost is around the 400 CAD mark. This would be a plug and play setup in the most part.
The final solution would be to take the stick gimbals to an engineering firm and have them fabricate a replacement. Cost would be what ever you could negotiate. An alternative to this would be to look on the net to see if someone is selling a cheap broken cougar with ok gimbals - don’t hold your breath too much though as the stock gimbals are poor quality and even if not broken might introduce a large amount of slop to the stick.
Hope this is of help.
-
I’d offer you mine but they’re actually bent out of shape and the slop is beyond use.
I’m deciding between FCC3 and FSSB myself.
-
Condolences… I’m fearing the day my cougar will give up the ghost.
I bought a TM Warthog as a backup a while ago, hardware seems top-notch quality but it’ll take a good bit of getting used to I guess.

Thanks Tiffy. I never for the TQS, and hence why I upgraded! The argument with Mrs Rmax was that I had bought the original game in 1997 (which was disapproved of, but we weren’t married then ) and I am still playing the same goddamn sim after all this time with very little purchase (except for the aforementioned secondhand cougar stick).
I keep saying that our spare room will make a brilliant space for a replica cockpit…

Well if you want my old ones, you can have them for shipping costs….

Thanks. I’m looking at a few different options. I might just chuck it in the garbage and get a Saitek X52 pro. Looks like a decent joystick….

TM Warthog is a great combo, had mine 4 years now still going strong.
