CTD with error 0xc0000005
-
Hello,
since I installed the BMS 4.35, I’ve experienced randomly some CTD without crash dump. I’ve looked into the Win10 log event and found an error with exception code 0xc0000005
I did some research and one solution was to reset Win10. I did that, reinstalled BMS, but, unfortunately, it didn’t solve the problem. It appears whatever the theater is, and without any mod.
I wonder :
1/ if anyone experienced that problem or am I the only one ?
2/ does someone has a clue to solve it (or at least an idea where it can come from) ?Cheers

Nothing in \Falcon BMS 4.35\User\Logs ? Odd.
0xc0000005 is “access violation”… pretty much the most universal, common error in the world of software development. Not a lot to go on.

BMS crashed once for me the same way without any log files on the last TvT round. Are you able to reproduce the CTD reliably? If yes, how to reproduce it? Can you reproduce it in a certain TE for example?

If anyone reading this is technically inclined (Win32/C++ developers) it might be good idea to register WinDbg or similar as JIT debugger, to capture stack trace of any uncaught exceptions before OS kills the process.
My Win32 debugging skills for are pretty rusty but I think I remember how to do that…

I’ve had two crashes with 4.35U1 without a log being generated. Both about a month apart. I’ve re-flown the missions from the saves, and experienced zero problems. BMS quirkiness. Maybe as hard to discover as the secret to the tootsie-roll pop.

I’ve had this one 3 times, all in MP flights in either Balkans or KTO, but at a rather random moment mid flight. No BMS crash log, just the W7 log. Have not put in the time yet to try and narrow it down. Will post in the bugtracker this weekend.

and your hardware configuration is?
Resolution?
Monitors?
Campaign?
TE?
Any modifications installed?
Any other programs running in the background? -
At this stage, 4.35U1 is known to suffer from some potential crashes due to some small (but serious) issues related to the new GFX engine (Or more precise the interaction of the GFX engine with other parts of the sim). We know that there is some area where a race between the GFX and sim threads can cause a crash.
That doesn’t mean to say that 4.35U1 isn’t stable or something like that, but it does say that at some corner cases you may experience crashes without crashlogs (usually that means something related to GFX). The team is working hard to solve those and I’m sure the next update will carry some good news with it.

Definitely isn’t a show stopper on my end. 4.35 has been wonderful

Any other programs running in the background?Hi Arty,
My hardware config is Ryzen 2700X, Motherboard ASUS X470 pro, 32Gb RAM, Win10 installed on a 110Go SSD, BMS installed on a 1To NVMe SSd, 1080Ti Zotiac. Resolution 3440x1440 and 1024*768 (for 2MFD).
Crash happened in TvT, campaign in MP, campaign in solo and TE… (Korea and Korea TvT)
Other apps running : TrackIR, TARGET and discord.
The only mod installed is the NVGmask by Van.
thx -
besides what I-Hawk said though your hw looks ok the resolution is rather beefed.
Have u checked the cpu performance and load while running BMS?
Edit: If u have it on auto speeds maybe consider setting it to always use max speed and performance.
Also the memory load and maybe consider memcheck? like if those are 2 mem sticks (16x2) and one has an issue it might crash when it tries to access the fault one but u would have and BSOD with such issue and not just an app crash.
Many have said that discord was causing issues on their games… have u even tried with discord killed?
just some ideas to try and eliminate potential causes other than BMS exe.
small example in my work laptop I had issue with samsung ssd performance boost with rapid status. having it enabled was causing crashes on apps. Sounds stupid and it was a lucky find.
At home flight pc after latest windows updates ssd boot up time is a hell… I have to reset the pc before login screen after power on, else I have to wait forever. and still boot time is 4x times longer than it used to be. -

Getting way OT here but fyi Arty there was a pretty widespread bug in a recent Win 10 update … I think it was in 1903 or 20H1. it affected my wife’s desktop… drive speeds dropped down to about 1MB/sec. Took 5 minutes to boot and login (instead of 5 seconds).
It wasn’t anything fundamental – after a backup and a clean reinstall, the drive is perfectly fine. Just something in the update process threw the drivers into some fallback/legacy mode, or something… iirc the issue was specific to SSHD “hybrid” drives but maybe it affected SSDs too? I didn’t research it too deeply, just reinstalled stuff and went on with life.

thanx but it’s not the case. ssd speed is ok and all other apps are ok regarding speed.
