LAN not working
-
Hello, I have a problem with my network configuration that I dont’ know how to resolve. I have 2 pc (1 desktop Win8.1u1 and 1 old notebook with XP) and I want to run a MFE extractor via LAN, to free resources on my “Falcon PC”. I have a modem-router WI-Fi and both computer connect to Internet. The problem is that they don’t see each others, when I ping I get no responce.
Have you an idea of what’s happening?
Thank you!
-
Are they part of the same Windows workgroup?
-
Yes, both set to WORKGROUP.
May be a router problem? -
Not impossible, but I’d find that odd. Firewall would be a more likely culprit then I reckon.
I assume their LAN IP’s are in the same range & subnet?
-
Yes. One thing I can say is that previously I had onother router and my computers where connected to him with LAN cable and all was functioning.
Now that router is not functioning anymore, so I have another one that has only one port for LAN cable. So I try to make all connection wireless. -
Still in trouble….
I tried disabling the firewall, but nothing change. I cannot connect to my other PC nor to my tablet. Only occasionally have successed the connection, but nothing stable.
Don’t know where to look… -
you can’t ping in neither the one to the other, or is the ping problem only on one side?
-
I can’t ping in either sides (for the tablet I haven’t tried, don’t know how to ping with android) . But all go on the Internet…

What are the IP addresses/netmask/default gateway on each device?
Open a command prompt and type ipconfig and display the results.

I have set for these devices static IPv4 addresses
192.168.0.xx
192.168.0.yy
192.168.0.zzall have the same gateway (the router IP)
192.168.0.1
and also DNS primary is set to this address (192.168.0.1).
Netmask is the default 255.255.255.0

I think because of the Routerchange, your Win8 Computer means it is another Network and because of that it starts protected (Windows XP didn’t had that “smart” network management).
You can merge Networklocationsettings in the [“Netzwerk- und Freigabecenter” | “Network- and Sharingcenter” | “Centro rete- e condivisione”] by clicking on the Icon for [“Sittingbank” | “Company house” | “Private house”],
in the panel choose [“Netzwerkadressen zusammenführen oder löschen” | “Merge or delete networkadresses” | “Aggiungi o rimuovi indirizzi di rete”].
Otherwise you have to set up the network, permission and firewall rules from start (shouldn’t be much either). Also in the “Network- and Sharingcenter” select [ “Erweiterte Freigabeeinstellungen änder” | “Advanced Sharingoptions” | “Opzioni di condivisione avanzate”] on the left side of the window.
Select the “Private and working place” section, and check [ “Netzwerkerkennung einschaltung” | “Networkrecognition” ] -

Sorry I have seen Win8 especially in italian rarely so I can’t give you further advices by memory. When I arrive at home I can make some screenshots so you can guess the position where you’d have to look for

What is the router make and model # ?
-
It’s a Sitecom WL-586, the one with only one lan port. But I use it only wireless.
-
Please post a screenshot of the “Wireless Settings > Advanced” and “Security” tabs from the router.

I will this evening when I will be at home. Thank you.

I suspect your WLAN router prevents wireless devices from communicating with each other on the internal network.
Cheers, Uwe

hoover, do you know if there is a setting for this or maybe I shall change my router again?

This was my first assumption as well, however nothing in the documentation mentions this feature. Is there a reason the the server hosting the game cannot be wired, and the client on wireless only? Wireless is a shared medium, just like a hub, so having one host wired would help a lot with the contention (that you may be having).
