Severe performance impact

One tip if you go into config in bms, set Rtt textures to zero, this has an improvement in bms. Also try having a look at this link. http://falcon-online.org/forum/index.php?topic=2528.0. try disabling some of the post processing features. The link should give you a starting point. Best way is to experiment because everybody seems to have different setups.

i7-4770 @3,4 Ghz
Gigabyte H87-HD3 MB
MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G
16 GB DDR3 Corsair Ram
Not the fastest, but so far it works.
Also, the FPS impact was on SP so far.
And…heeey Cobalt. Greetings from ApeX from yesterday evening! Hope we fly again one day.
Yeah was fun
My starting point with config is turn off all shadow mapping under the Shaders section. Flare situation might be helped by choosing
per-vertex
instead ofper-pixel
in the lighting effects. Unsure about that. -
Well, I just figured out that when I drop flares there is no big impact on FPS however.
Only when other fighters drop flares.
@sub: What do you mean by rtt textures?
-
go into your config file (open with notepad). this is located at Falcon bms user config file. go down to misc settings and find set g_bExportRTTTextures 1 set this to zero. somebody else could explain better. search for set g_bExportRTTTextures

Thank you very much.
What are those special textures?

I think it disables external window mode. but not too sure really, but I did get a fps increase. Hope you are getting there as your rig is plenty good enough compared to some of us.

What is your screen resolution and what is the average FPS you are getting in an empty mission in Israeli theater? Also another stuff that may affect FPS greatly is your Nvidia driver settings, i.e what you may be forcing from driver level may get nasty in BMS (e.g forcing Super-sampling or transparency AA may have affect)
FWIW with a system almost as yours, i7 4790K and GTX-1060 that is ~equal to the 970, on 1920x1200 resolution, everything maxed out in graphics and displays extracted to 2nd monitor, I’m getting ~60-70 FPS in an empty TE and I don’t remember the last time I saw less than 30 FPS, even on heavy campaign missions and with TGP/WPN views on.
Specifically I have here:
AA on driver level set to “Application controlled”
AF on driver level set to x16
Any “optimization” on driver level set to disabled, or setting which may affect picture quality are set to best picture quality
Inside BMS Multi-sampling is on and quality on 3 (On my GTX-780 I was used to set it to 7 but with the 1060 for some reason I can’t, 3 is max)
V-Sync disabled from driver level
All options in config set to “Best quality” (i.e all shaders on, pixel lighting, all shadows including “shadow on smoke”, hi res textures etc).FWIW with your level of system you should be getting nice FPS on FHD resolutions and I bet also if you are running 2560x1440. So I suggest first to check your driver settings and play with what I mentioned in order to get best balance between picture/performance.

Hey sub,
can you give me a hint on what topics to look at?
I’ve been browsing the Isreal subforum recently, but no luck so far.Thank you very much.
In my signature you will find my HotList Link with many interesting things and a section for performance.

Your graphics card is probably on battery optimizer by default like mine was. Even my gtx 1080 lagged until i put it on high performance mode in the nvidia control panel. Do it for falcon bms.exe, or if you dont have it there make it the global setting.

Ha yes right, this is also important to notice (in general)

Hi folks,
thank you very much for all the great input so far!
I checked the link that sub101 posted on page 1 and set everything properly in my nvidia config.
What should I say? Severe performance boost, but I think there is more that I can get out of my card!
I am running on 1920x1080 Resolution.
I will try this RTT Texture thing aswell.
-
Ok, I think I fixed my performance for Israel so far.
Tried this RTT texture thing and some other stuff. Now, everything is running quite smoothly so far.
Now, the next thing will be the “Ostsee” theater, where the performance on the ground is even worse.
-
Flew again today, still experienced some struggle…
It is hard to believe that my rig might be not able to run BMS smoothly, yet in DCS I don’t have any problems at all.
And I consider DCS to be much more demanding in terms of hardware.

DCS code is not 20 years old …

You got a point there!

I don’t think its far behind, I still have my Lock On dics. They might have tweeked around the edges but its no beauty Queen.

Hi there,
so, this is my first post here.
Today I downloaded the Isreal theater and I am really amazed by its size and complexity.
I noticed some performance issues though.
Whenever I taxi on the ground the games starts to stutter.
Also, when an enemy plane is dropping flares, I sometimes come down to 10 FPS.
Curiously enough, I don’t have this problem in the Korean theater.Could it be due to the fact that Israel uses higher res textures?
Thank you very much for your help!
Greetings
ChrisAs we used to have similar problems around one of the central Air Bases , cant remember which, I think it is a texture problem.
As we/I flew away it would clear and FPS would be back to normal.
Try using some other bases.
-
are you using high-res textures? if so, try tuning it off and see if that helps

Turning RTT textures to zero has made a massive difference. Thank you
