Decoys and entering coordinates.
-
I have two questions. I have also tried to look through various documentations that have been provided to see if I could find my answer, but couldn’t seem to find it.
So… after reading a very interesting documentary from an F16 Pilot’s combat experiences I have wondered…1. Do we have in BMS a decoy we can release that will ride on a cable behind our F16 to lure a SAM when trying to evade such a threat?
2. Can we enter a coordinate when flying for instance, if we see something and want to mark it on our MFD to circle around and re-approach for observation or to target can we enter that location? Or also, if someone calls for support for a CAS and gives coordinates can we enter it in our system and have it marked or located in an MFD?
Alright… please excuse my ignorance.
I am trying to study up on this 4.33 U3Thanx

1. No
2. In BMS you can enter coordinates into steerpoints. You cannot perform a HSD/HAD mark in BMS. In the real jet, in the newest tape (M7.1), you can take HSD/HAD marks.

To add a bit more here…

The JanHas models have a towed decoy, but it is strictly eye candy with no functionality.

I usually just drop an OFLY mark and then edit the coordinates accordingly. As for CAS…who needs coordinates when you can do talk-ons?

Thank you. I have much to learn. Statements like “You cannot perform a HSD/HAD” and “I usually just drop an OFLY mark and then edit the coordinates accordingly”
Well… I am a bit of a prisoner of Mother ignorance on some of these methods that are used by U guys. But I will learn. AA I do pretty well I think. I need to learn to use the AG modes and what not.
Thanks.

Looks like somebody just read Dan Hampton and feels the desperate need to re-enact the book
(I had the same urge, about two years ago…)For the OFLY part, try to learn the features available in the MARK PAGE of the DED. You’ll find a good starting point it in the “TO-BMS1F-16CM-1.pdf” in Chapter 1.2.10 on Page 68.
This section explains how to save a coordinate to a Steerpoint from one of your Sensor (Radar, Targeting Pod , HUD) or alternatively just the point on the ground directly under you.
