Cougar Throttle question

…same place(s) you go to get the TUSBA - download links are on the page(s):

For my usage the cheap TUSBA R1 version is sufficient. You calibrate it directly with the windows calibration tool.

Alright and special thanx. Check this out now… I just got to tell you this. I purchased a super Mint Cougar system from Fleabay from a guy who said he only used it approximately maybe 19 times. It looked brand new. It had a buy it now so I paid like $450.00 for it. After talking with him on the phone he then changes his mind and I must have talked him into wanting to keep it, so he cancels my payment and gives me some sort of excuse about being in the process of moving and the mover’s moved it with stuff and now he can’t find it! Well at least I got my money back. And then right then or about a day later I noticed another Cougar for sale also with original box. Only this is for auction and it is up to $305.00. According to this seller he bought it in the beginning for his Step-father who retired from the USAF, but he was never able to get it to run on a Mac. So this unit went back in it’s box and sat for all these years and now he is clearing out stuff. This one too looks superb. According to the seller it has really never been used.
So… we shall see… I landed this one for $482.25
Hopefully this seller will actually send it. Man I saw one recently that looked very thrashed with broken knobs… selling for $600.00+??? I have a Warthog. I am pleased with it. I just wanted this for the Falcon with that throttle. It is Cougar #09544 Not in my hands yet.

Thanks! Yeah I noticed a R1 and a R2 ? Not knowing the difference at this point, still waiting for the Cougar to land, but getting ready to get a hold of one of these devices to be able to plug that throttle in by itself would be cool.

I have a Cougar TQS with Cub Pilot Hall Effect Mod - any advantage to getting the TUSBA R1?
-
The TUSBA will increase the resolution bits from 8 to 12-bits (256 to 4096 steps of movement), which helps in fine control for refueling and close formation. I’m not familiar with the Device-pot Cubby HS mod provides, but it’s likely a linear potentiometer. The original Cougar electronics are still being used and define the resolution, so the Cubby HS mod is less noisy and longer lasting, but it’s my opinion still 8-bit resolution.
IMHO, don’t bother with the R1 as it cannot be reflashed and bios updated like the R2, nor does it have the calibration tool support as does the R2.
And of course, the TUSBA unleashes the TQS from the Cougar base D-connector, and thus making it a standalone USB device that BMS and other sims recognize as a DX controller.
I use a TQS with TUSBA-R2 and Miles-HS-Z-axis-pot mod. Works with a force modded Cougar and Warthog sticks.

I ordered that TUSBA R1 V1.02 Looks like it comes from Spain. It’s been a week and no email conformation. I emailed them and they thanked me for an interest in their products and assured me they would send email to me once it ships. Hopefully some day.
I see that realsim sight also seems to have some pretty serious F16 flight sim hardware! -
Mine seemed to take a bit to get to me, but it did get to me…recommend patience…the folks at RealSim do respond!

Maybe you can elaborate a bit the advantages of the calibration tool support. Thanks

Thanks for the advice AV8R. It occurs to me though that if I use the TUSBA on the TQS and Windows sees it as a separate DX device - this would screw up my key file bindings and I would have to re-bind? Or would just adjusting DeviceSort in Config folder solve that?
-
It’s quite easy. Just a few more entries into the key file. New DeviceSort alone won’t help.
