WIP: F-14 B/D

So what’s the latest good news?
I know we all have real lives, but given how things have kind of ground to a crawl over with DCS (both hornet and tomcat)…I figured there was a chance this might beat them to the punch.
Thanks for asking and thank all of you for the continued support and interest. This project is still in dev it’s just that RL for me sometimes means existential struggles as I’m a freelancer :D.
It just so happens that I got screwed big on a coop project with a fellow who doesn’t have a good handle on his clients and that ripped quite a deep hole into my budget so now I gotta spend every last free minute on fixing that.
As soon as things quiet down I’ll get back to this.
In the meantime if anyone needs or knows someone that needs someone in Central Europe who can do freelance work as a project manager for procurement, supplier sourcing and qualification, head hunting or HR process consulting or any kind of sourcing of anything please let me know :).
Sorry for the shameless plug. Tomcat will see the light of day, Baby.

You’re cool, boss.
Best of luck and know we’re behind you.

Relax and take care yourself and your job. Real life top of all ;).
We can always wait you to be again strong and full of Falcon energy.
My best wishes to you.

Sure thing, this isn’t a job after all and last you need is any more pressure!! Thanks for the hard work, this is going to be soooo sweeet for sure when it’s done in 3-4 weeks .
Meanwhile, allow me to share one of my snaps from my time on the Big Stick in the Gulf:

Dude you don’t realise it but you might have just posted the most useful real life perspective shot I’ve ever seen! Look at that bulge in the front fuselage around the nozzle area, you almost never see that anywhere. So many details in that shot - just wow man!
Thanks for your words and thanks even more for the pic, will be invaluable once work continues in 3-4 weeks.

Gee, wow, thanks I guess. Anything I can do to help. If you need any more Tomcat shots, I can check my PC when I get home and see what else I can find.

I would almost agree with this, but I see in the photo ground stores…
This is something that I don’t like to see on this beautiful and one of the best ever powerful interceptor aircraft.
F-14 created and was a strong interceptor aircraft

Nikos. The F-14 made a very good recce (TARPS) and bomber platform actually. During the second Gulf War and Afghanistan the “Bombcat” turned out to be a great attack asset too.
Hauling ground stores probably kept the F-14 in the fleet a bit longer I suppose. Just like the S-3 Viking which was able to squeeze out a few more years of service life by adapting to new roles and requirements.

Well some “dirty” economical games retired this aircraft sooner.
There are statements by high ranking officers that was a complete mistake (its retirement that time), but this is an other story.
And of course they don’t meant about its ground capabilities…

There’s no need to thank for any service, I’m a civilian
I was merely fortunately enough to be allowed to spend time on the Roosevelt in 2006, during the last weeks of Tomcat Combat Ops over Iraq.
I was on the Nimitz in 2005, which was all Hornets, so when I got the opportunity to embark onto the Big Stick, I was “mildly excited”. I’ll see if I can find some shots of 105, when I get home. I’m pretty sure I’ve caught her on deck. Only a surprisingly small number of different Tomcats were flying - mostly the same handful of air frames were flying each cycle. -
Woops !!! Sorry hahaha
Thanks for sharing your pics anyway. Small number of different Tomcats but not the same crews, right ?
(Sorry for the digressions Stingray 6-2, but I’m still curious to know how it was on the aircraft carriers during the Tomcat period and see pictures rarely found on the internet :))

Just a word of caution: Careful with perspective shots with short lenses. Lots of distortion possible.

That’s generally true for focal lengths of < 35mm and gets worse when using cheaper lenses. This was taken at greater than 35mm, in portrait mode (I cropped and rotated this photo) with automatic lens correction (pincushion) applied. In this instance, the distortion is minimal. Some natural optical distortion may still be present due to the closeness to the F-14 which was less than 5 meters away.

Strange Q or request by me (who me? Strange? - First time ever… ) but have seen many projects and models going down the drain over the years… just what will happen if u will not have the time in the next x years to finish this project? Do you consider on passing it to BMS or a fellow community modeler as is and continue on it when u see that it takes long?
It’s a wonderful and remarkable work and it would be a shame to faint unused.I don’t want nor expect an answer just food for thought… which I believe u already consider.
Thanx in advance.

Is that a GBU-12 on the Stbd 'Winder rail?

I’m pretty sure that it was carrying a AIM-9M on that rail, with two JDAMs under the fuselage.
-
It’s a LANTIRN targeting pod on Stbd, port is a Aim-9M with the later “fat” rail.
Two JDAM’s int he tunnel.
