WIP: F-14 B/D

Just a word of caution: Careful with perspective shots with short lenses. Lots of distortion possible.

That’s generally true for focal lengths of < 35mm and gets worse when using cheaper lenses. This was taken at greater than 35mm, in portrait mode (I cropped and rotated this photo) with automatic lens correction (pincushion) applied. In this instance, the distortion is minimal. Some natural optical distortion may still be present due to the closeness to the F-14 which was less than 5 meters away.

Strange Q or request by me (who me? Strange? - First time ever… ) but have seen many projects and models going down the drain over the years… just what will happen if u will not have the time in the next x years to finish this project? Do you consider on passing it to BMS or a fellow community modeler as is and continue on it when u see that it takes long?
It’s a wonderful and remarkable work and it would be a shame to faint unused.I don’t want nor expect an answer just food for thought… which I believe u already consider.
Thanx in advance.

Dude you don’t realise it but you might have just posted the most useful real life perspective shot I’ve ever seen! Look at that bulge in the front fuselage around the nozzle area, you almost never see that anywhere. So many details in that shot - just wow man!
Thanks for your words and thanks even more for the pic, will be invaluable once work continues in 3-4 weeks.

Is that a GBU-12 on the Stbd 'Winder rail?

I’m pretty sure that it was carrying a AIM-9M on that rail, with two JDAMs under the fuselage.
-
It’s a LANTIRN targeting pod on Stbd, port is a Aim-9M with the later “fat” rail.
Two JDAM’s int he tunnel.
-
Any idea of why the current BMS F-14D cannot load the JDAM bombs?

Hello,
hope the project will see the light of day! I always dreamed of a good F-14D simulation, cause we never had one. It’s also sad to hear that another promissing project, the F-15C/E had come to a hold.
I ever dreamed so much of the legendary six-pack in one simulator, which for me always had been the F-16C, F-15C/E, F/A-18C, F-14B/D, A-10A/C and the AV-8B. O.k in BMS it’s all F-16 under the hood but it’s the closest to have all those famous birds in one good realistic simulation.
-
So I know the project is a bit on hold/slow progress/etc…
But I do have a question for stingray_SIX_TWO…
You mentioned you wanted to refine the flight model on this to better match the real F-14. Are you yourself planning on doing this or maybe trying to have the folks who worked on the F-15 and F/A-18 FM for 4.33 work on it?
Also, I’ve got a ton of documents related to the Tomcat (NATOPS, some technical manuals, etc)…could they be of any use to you?

It will be finished and there won’t be any need to hand it over to anyone. It will take more time but it won’t be left for dead in the graveyard as so many projects that I’m very well aware of.

It will see the light of day in the as you so very rightly put it most realistic and only truly authentic simulation out there - Falcon.

I’ve looked at it but I’m no expert by a long shot. It will be closer than any FM before it but I have no idea who did the 15 or 18 for 4.33, always open for collaborators though needless to say.
I have all the docs you mentioned and am also in contact with former turkey drivers from the US as well as the Iranian Air Force so I’m confident whatever we’ll put together will be close to what’s possible within the limitations.

Tomcat touch & go….
That pic alone is justification for building a high quality model of this bird for any sim - especially F4/BMS.

Beginning to organize the model again…hoping to be able to pump out some meaningful progress soon…Baby.

Nice to see you “active” again!
I LOVE your baby!

Glad to see an update!
Hope your work situation has improved sir
