WIP: F-14 B/D
-
Are you yourself planning on doing this or maybe trying to have the folks who worked on the F-15 and F/A-18 FM for 4.33 work on it?
Also, I’ve got a ton of documents related to the Tomcat (NATOPS, some technical manuals, etc)…could they be of any use to you?
I’ve looked at it but I’m no expert by a long shot. It will be closer than any FM before it but I have no idea who did the 15 or 18 for 4.33, always open for collaborators though needless to say.
I have all the docs you mentioned and am also in contact with former turkey drivers from the US as well as the Iranian Air Force so I’m confident whatever we’ll put together will be close to what’s possible within the limitations.

Tomcat touch & go….
That pic alone is justification for building a high quality model of this bird for any sim - especially F4/BMS.
-
Beginning to organize the model again…hoping to be able to pump out some meaningful progress soon…Baby.

Nice to see you “active” again!
I LOVE your baby!

Glad to see an update!
Hope your work situation has improved sir

WOW!!! JUST WOW!!!
-
OMG !!!
-
-
That is looking great!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I been sifting through the maze of objects and materials and apparently have doubled and tripled many of them during the development. That’s also the reason why the above pic has the different shades of grey. Some materials with the same name have different attributes and got all mixed up. Will update as soon as I’ve cut down on the duplication.

I’ve found some more Tomcat shots I took in the Arabian Gulf. I hope these are of some help or if not at least provide ample motivation for the project.
If you need any high-res versions, please do let me know!I apologize for the image flood…But… Tomcats!
-
WOW!!! JUST WOW!!!
Agree.
Tom inbound and reasonably close, as just seems…Keep on the nice job, Stingray!
With best regards,

Oh darn…more beautiful Tomcat pictures
-
Honestly…this Tomcat along with the Phantom that Manos was doing should be in the next BMS 4.34 update…they’re going to be that good

Nice shots “Tazz”!
Nikos. -
All materials sorted, all objects named, all obsolete objects/origins removed, all relationships checked and in working order.
-
Oh I love wireframe renders Just realised I accidentally removed the black cockpit material, fixed now.
Spoiler limits now lowere to -2 degrees as per real life documentation. HUD glass now with green tint as per RL pics of F-14Ds. All weapon pylons have been modeled for LANTIRN, AIM-54C, AIM-7, AIM-9 and all kinds of guided and dumb bombs. Wing root area fixed on wing and glove. All object origins set to correct position also for the landing gear. Wings now able to go into oversweep without geometry protruding through the glove vane:
This bird is going into the sim for testing asap. Tazz will provide me with some high res pics which I’ll use to photo match and iron out any remaining details/proportionality issues. The exhaust nozzles will be arranged in an array and rigged to a central point so they can open and close as intended, can then be rigged via one single rotation DOF. The only part on the wing not yet made movable are the two eyebrow doors on top of the main and aux flaps.
Vertical stabilizer AC and positioning lights need to be separated, wing AC and positioning lights will be added, gunport and nozzle need to be aligned into front fuselage and some finishing touches on the landing gear needs to be done.
**I will absolutely need assistance on the rigging of all the moving parts in 3Ds and material setting and assignment for a first test run in the editor and then BMS.
I’m still unclear as to how to fix the inflatable glove wing bag issue. In RL it in-/deflates depending on wing sweep. If not implemented part of the wing will ‘disappear’ into the airbag. If I lower the bag the geometry gets messed up. If anyone has any input please let me know.**
Anytime, Baby.
Wings are slightly too far outside on that shot, haven’t found the correct pivot point for the wing yet. Fuel dump valve and beavertail antenna seem to have a material that is off. And no, I haven’t forgotten about the refueling probe :).

Humble suggestions
1: Attach the bag to the wing. So as the wing closes the bag will go inside the plane and disappear.
2: Lower and give the correct angle of the upper mesh of the bag to be in parallel with the lower mesh of the wing. So that way it will be ok.I would go with 2 as the moving wing with the airbag might look strange in case 1.
3: u can rotate the bag as you rotate the wing at the same time. That way both might look ok. Compromise and not actual process to have the wanted result. -
What an absolute beauty!
I know next to nothing about 3DMax modeling and animations, so I’m of no use there…but thank you for doing this.

Keep walking mate!
