Zaggy Here - Falcon 4.0 original disc

This is the cheapest one I could find on ebay, 5 days left at time of posting

Have you tried the disc on another DVD drive? I thought my disc was gone when I tried installing it on my PC using my DVD drive; it just wouldn’t read it. I tried it again on my laptop’s drive and it worked!!
I fully agree with you here.
It’s often not the disc, but the player who fails. The older the player the higher the chance it can’t read the/some discs.
Back in the day I’ve had similar problems, and before throwing the drive into the trash,
I’ve opened it and cleaned the laser lens carefully, … worked like a new one.Cheers,

Yep… I’ve seen discs that ended up having holes in the actual shiny media section so clearly those discs have gone bad… but so far, my Falcon 4.0 CD is still nice and clean so I tried it on the other computer and it worked!

I have not used my original CD since Frugals days, so she is also nice and clean, … and safe.
And when I think about that pic, posted by a guy on the forums (dunno who it was) back in the day,
showing a totally disrupted originally disc, then I doubt my CD will see a CD/DVD- drive ever again.Sent from my laptop using keyboard.

Greets all,
This is Zaggy here - some of you may remember me from the good old days (and things like OpenSkins and BAZ Terrains and the original F-15C/E skins, etc)… I’ve not been around for a while!
Now, I am in need of an F4.0 original CD to install BMS once again, as my old, original 1998 CD is unreadable; any one have a spare or can point me in the right direction? If so, drop me a line - xavier_of_haar (at) hotmail.com
Otherwise who is still around from the good old days? Is Bluey still about? Mike Rivers? etc?

My Disc was all nice and safe too - but as I think I mentioned before, the disc has crazed for some reason (where as another CD in the same box was perfectly fine)…like the plastic itself. It’s actually rough to the touch!
But yeah, I have the original 1998 boxing with the Ring Binder manual and maps, etc…so I don’t really need the disc for anything like “collector purposes”; I just need the bits. So as long as the later releases (that came in the triple packs and etc) have the same bits (or bits that work for a BMS install), I am happy! I don’t think my Disc has been used since Frugals days either, as until the last series of upgrades, I just had a folder archived that I could install over and an ISO - which is on a drive that I seem to have lost track of!

Most of us have had to buy Falcon 4.0 again. My original disc is long gone. It’s $6.99 at Steam if you can stand Steam. The download s pretty fast, but I have a fast connection. Downloading BMS takes a bit longer.
-
Well, if you just need the bits, then Steam/GoG/Retroism has the data you need

Hey Zagster,
maybe it’s time to dig for that drive(s), plus I think there is one or another
usefull Falcon- related goodie to find on that drive(s) as well.Cheers,

Oh, please accept my (in)sincerest apologies……

I believe what you get in that particular sale is the disc, but then, to run BMS all you need is the disc to install, you quite clearly inferred that your original disc was shot and that you had a slow internet connection thereby nullifying a download, GoG, ISO’s etc, you further explained that you would download BMS using your University connection.
It struck me that all you need is the disc? I didn’t recall reading your request for a collectors edition or for singular items such as a map or cadet book or an out of date manual for that matter.
FWIW the image on the disc in that particular sale appears to look exactly like my original disc bought in the Uk 1998 box edition - No ring binder - and I reckon that would be collectable by someone, given some of the collectors I’ve known.
But, anyway, good luck with your quest.
And, by the way, a great many thanks for your Falcon contributions over the years, really appreciated them.

No offense meant, ddoc… I assumed Zaggy wanted a disc for “collecting” purposes.

Need it for Installing Purposes!
So if I go the Steam option, can I download the bits at work, chuck them on a Disc or Drive and take them home to install? Or does the Steam client still need to be on the machine that DL’s and Install’s?

No need to thank me, ddoc. Plenty of others did a LOT more than me! Thanks none-the-less mate.

Learn from Pete’s experience here and consider buying the GoG version if you have issues with Steam or if it annoys you. With the GoG version, you can definitely download it at work, put it on a USB drive, take it home, and install it.
My install procedure uses the GoG version and you can clearly see how to download it off GoG.

Welcome back Zaggy, long time mate Hope family and health are good man.

GDay Sting, and GDay JetWash! How goes guys?
Update : Still looking for a disc… Have tried my original in many drives - no good… Reluctant to go the steam route - I like physical media (not a fan of SaaS and ‘downloads’, etc)…
