Harpoon WPT's actually implemented?
-
I feel like I’m going crazy, but I’m trying to enter a HPN target waypoint in either WPT-TO-TGT or TGT-TO-WPT mode.
I’ve entered the location in a steerpoint 90-99.
I then select that STP as my current SPT, and for the life of me can’t get the DED page to accept any changes. The LIST/MISC/WPT page is stuck in a random STP 18 and doesn’t accept a SEQ or dobber down or anything…. I can’t mode select the WPT mode ‘on’.It’s new in the manual, but did this get implemented yet? What am I missing? I’ve tried with and without the Harpoons powered up, in flight and on ground…BOL and RBL…
-
what are you trying to hit with the Harpoon?
-
It should work yes. Please post details if it’s not working for you.

Ok, I’m trying to activate TGT-to-WPT mode for RBL. I’m using the LIST/MISC then option 9 for WPT. Once there I can’t ‘mode sel’ anything nor will it accept any changes. This is with STP 90 already filled in with data (and that shows correctly on DEST and STPT pages).
Harpoons work perfectly fine in RBL with a FCR derived SPI, it’s just the HPN waypoint modes that don’t seem to. I still have the green target waypoint and dotted lines on the HSD, but that’s being driven from the FCR SPI.
Thanks.

Sorry I’ve found my mistake. I was expecting the LIST/MISC/WPT menu to be the entry point for Harpoon data, but indeed it’s LIST/DEST with a Harpoon selected. All working as intended.
But it does leave the question of what exactly LIST/MISC/WPT does?, because that’s clearly HPN related as well.

Interesting question indeed, I don’t remember the exact details (It was years since I added that stuff) but I will check further, thank you for raising that.

“3.7.1 Harpoon Target and Waypoint Data Loading via UFC”
RTFM… you’re :welcome:
-
Thank You- but which manual are you referring to? I’ve checked page 3.7.1 in every manual I have, both 4.34 and 4.35, and see nothing about “Data loading via UFC”. I must be going blind in my old age.
-
It’s section 3.7.1, pp.278, of the dash 34 (TO-BMS1F-16CM-34-1-1) manual.
-
The right -34 should be in your doc folder (change 4.35.1 - 03 January 2021).
I couldn’t find it because was reading a copy pre-U1 on my tablet. Also the one linked here on the forum in Documentation section seems to be outdated.
-
I think I better go get my eyes checked! I don’t know how I missed it. I must have looked at the -34 half-a-dozen times. Thanks for the nudge.
I just read your post Vandroy and I think that’s what’s going on with my search for this. -
Sorry mate, was just trying to push you in right direction … that MISC-WPT page only display preset information via DIST page - so don’t bother.
Real Harpoon operations are through LIST-DIST page and then SEQ … but must be in AG mode and Harpoon powered on/selected.
Need to use waypoints 90-99 selected in DIST !!! (81-99 for BMS 4.35) page , not as system steerpoint. - but that sucks… as you can’t assign 81-99 waypoint to an empty space eg… in the water, it must be assigned to a target, and that is … meh., no use.
So, only option is input coords manually in DIST page, … so, when planning mission :
- put “Harpoon” PPT steerpoint on water from where you want your your WPT-to-TGT , then
- check what steerpoint number that harpoon PPT have (somewhere between 56-70) - it will show when clicked, like PPT XX - you can even select it from HSD in flight and see its coords on DIST page when input that steerpoint number
- then write down those coord , or remember, go to DIST page , select 81-99 and copy coords from that X (harpoon PPT)
- go to AG mode . select harpoon , power on , select RBL or BOL , … then on DIST page with that NEW made “precision” steerpoint selected press SEQ - it will become harpoon steerpoint , (HRP) .
- … then … well… Good luck.
I failed at first , HSD didn’t show mnemonics for harpoon , … so probably I’ve made mistake somewhere … but process is not complicated … we’ll see , … off to more testing.
Cheers:rapture:
!!! That above is partially wrong, I’ve manged to do it actually right yesterday… YOU MUST USE STP90-99 as SYSTEM WAYPOINT , manual says so… doh.
8\. Select appropriate target location (steerpoint) via ICP/DED.
Then you activate one of harpoons modes in DEST page , press SEQ 2x on eg.STP90, there’s option … WPT-TO-TGT (BOL) or TGT-TO-WPT(RBL)
… cute thing is when you have eg STP90 selected , you can move that STP with AG-FCR with harpoons in BOL mode and WPT mode activated… so you can put it anywhere you like with FCR cursor… then switch to RBL and put cursor on target… minimal fiddle, all graphically
Only problem , well, can’t be helped then, … is that if you select STP90 as system steerpoint , you’ll break AI logic for the mission waypoint flow… , so you shouldn’t do it until your AI wingmen are asking for attack, they reach IP steerpoint, … but you can always direct them manually , order ATTACK TARGETS …
And there’s a bug with radio manual input frequency when carrying harpoons, but you can always do it with system in AA mode … or exit the “harpoon mode” in AG even after you fired all missiles, just change AG weapon even there aren’t more
All in all , cudos for BMS TEAM m they’ve did very nice work with this… especially HSD mnemonics .
Cheers

just :bump:
:drink: -
just put recon mode to the nearest port city and set it to 90, then switch the soi to the FCR and put her in sea mode and switch to steer 90. You can then move the location of steerpoint 90 with the slew of the fcr, fine tune and adjust it. tms up and fire.

Yep. That’s exactly what I figured out last week.
@someone helped me with this (sorry can’t recall, not my credit) …. or you can find ships with radar , put radar in EXP then FREEZE “FZ” mode , and read coords in upper left corner of FCR. , just copy them to STP90… it doesn’t have to be correct as you can always slew that waypoint with fcr and in BOL mode for 1 harpoon … after waypoint setup plan your attack
… but bear in mind ,… ships do move , and some overtaking should take place when firing from max range ~80nm ,… as I’ve even managed to miss with all 4 harpoons … maybe even - Be careful with “Enable Range” … there is a catch when ur using waypoint
Anyway Thanks
