ROE & Visual ID
-
Hello,
If the rules of engagement call for a VID, doesn’t that put you at a disadvantage? If the bogey has R77 missiles then they can shoot us right in the face.
We won’t know the bogey has active missiles until the ‘M’ shows up on the RWR, by which then it’s too late. How do you know if your being fired at with the R77 before it goes active?
I just don’t see how you can get so close for a VID and not expect to be fired at.
Thank you

Yeah, well, it’s a tough business.
TGP might be considered ‘visual’ ….?
Also, when you get ARH warning (‘M’ symbol) it’s not necessarily ‘too late’, but you may have you’re work cut out for you to evade.

The only thing to remember with ROE is that they’re great for humans, but the AI don’t follow such rules. They just get within x miles, the code says they can shoot, so they shoot. They don’t have to worry about consequences etc. I made a TE recently with plans for strict ROE but had to abandon it as simply the AI can’t and won’t follow them also.

I used to like that feature in TFX. I recall there being missions with stricter ROE, as you were not always in an all out war.

Kurile theter in F3.0 brought ROE rules as well - it was great (but it was simple ROE "if they shoot first, you can shoot back)
Do we have ROE settings in 4.33 U3?

I’m pretty sure BMS has a ROE matrix specified per country or side in the theater definition.
