Rusty Cougar?
-
The pot wipers might get some oxidation, but that will wear off with use and tuner clearer if necessary. The rust can easily e removed with steel wool, then paint them black or clear coat so they dont rust again.
Or just buy new stainless steel ones. Much more easy.
The tqs has some ring finger scrape marks which would stop me, but thats picky and prissy me. I wont buy or use this worn equipment.
Are you married? My TQS is full on small scraps. I wear my ring all the time. Not wearing pilot gloves
-
What are you waiting for? Iād bust a move on this set if I were you. The Micro-stick hat or the Antenna Pot is mucho worth itā¦ā¦I know those parts can be purchased for cheap, but Iāve not seen one person point me in the final direction to source one. Iām usually pointed to a web page that has four thousand different pots to choose fromā¦TM used to email out documentation to help with that but they havenāt responded to me twice now. Get it, then put in the FSSB and be done with it.

@16th:

Iām waiting for the final 2-3 minutes to put in my bid as thereās no reserve on it and the buy now price is $100 USD over the start price. Shipping this thing isnāt going to be cheap so I will need to keep my bid low in order to keep things reasonable here.

Andā¦ā¦ MINE! :blowpar:
Thanks guys, Iāll let you know what she really looks like when she gets here. A new Cougar owner joins the pack

Thanks, ill make note of it.

Other old fart hehehehe.
Just saying its normal to have some scraps. 25 years? Are you not tired yet? Just kidding

Hi guys, hereās a small update.
This morning finally two large boxes arrived at my doorstep with the following content:
- Thrustmaster Cougar in pretty good nick other than the rusty screws and the ring scratch on the TQS
- Thrustmaster RCS pedals
- Logitech G19S gaming keyboard with display
- Falcon 4.0 Allied Force
- Falcon 4.0 Squadron Leader Special Edition Binder + CD, complete with Korea map
The total damage for all this, including shipping (!) was ~ 179 USD which I think is a pretty good deal for the lot!!
Thanks for the input and assistance guys, I can now join the illustraious Cougar Club with HOTAS # 32057.
-
Sounds like a good deal to me. Relatively later model cougar there, which might have contributed to its apparent lack of wear.
-
Iāve hooked it up but I got half a heart attack when it refused to be detected by the Cougar Control Panel. Thankfully the Thrustmaster FAQ was very helpful. The hold-trigger-to-reset didnāt do it but the firmware update program confirmed that no valid firmware was found on the stick. The program flashed the Cougar to 3.00.6 (or something?) and then it was all fully detected by the CCP. Iāll look into programming tomorrow. Is it recommended to go down the Foxy route and program the BMS keystrokes or just program it as a DirectX device?
-
There doesnt seem to be a consensus among the community. I rather firmly recommend programming it as a DirectX device, for several reasons. Some other folks recommend programming via keystrokes emulated by Foxy.
-
I use mine through programming with Foxy. I just Upload a āmapā in the program and download it in the device! Till now it works flawlessly except some times i loose calibration or the microstick witch i found out that running CCP before lanching BMS its all ok. But i think my problem probably has to do with windows 10. Other than that nothing to report. Preety good deal u got there Tazz In the 179 USD was the posting fees as well? I paid for mine 150 Euros here in Greece used as well and i was kinda lucky finding it cause i wasnt expecting finding it in the site i searched and lucky enough to be just 10 minutes away by car or bike from my home :)))) but no Falcon cd or other goodies unfortunatelly. As for the screws just go to hardware store a find some simmilar ones probably you gonna find.

Ah yes, I think I found a very useful document on your website regarding DirectX programming for the Cougar that I will study carefully.
One question though: is it possible, through DX, to assign two different functions to the pinky switch?
Can I program it so that if I press the pinky switch by itself, that it will act as a true pinky switch (e.g. control the SOI FOV) but when I press it in combination with any other button it will act as a SHIFT function button instead?I couldnāt get that done on my SWF22 FLCS/TQS (using Foxy as programming IDE) so I had to relocate the actual pinky switch function as a SHIFT function to DMS-down. (seemed like the most logical place to me). But I would very much like to use the Cougar pinky switch as in the original F-16 while also retaining the shift function as well.
(On my FLCS/TQS I have all actual F-16 functions directly programmed on all the buttons and all BMS specific things like switching 3D cockpit view etc are SHIFT functions).Preety good deal u got there Tazz In the 179 USD was the posting fees as well? Yes it was 179 USD incl. shipping. I paid 140 USD for the actual goods, the rest was shipping for two heavy boxes using a courier service.
It only sold for this price for two reasons - the seller inherited the gear from a deceased relative (who obviously was a flight sim fan) but had no interest in or knowledge of the product and two he advertised it as flight simulator gear but not specifically as a TM Cougar. I just happen to browse and the photo of the cougar box caught my eye. So this auction was probably missed by others who would want to buy it. I wouldnāt be surprised if you can count the number of Cougars in New Zealand on one, perhaps two hands? -
Yeah, you can do that. Its not something I know much about but you can set a shift button in BMS to do one thing when you tap it and another when you hold it and press another button.
My recommendation is still to not do so, and map the stick the same as the real jet, but this is not appealing to everyone.

Tazz, using the pinky button as designed, then using it also as a shifting button is what I do. I mostly have the stick and throttle fully DX then use a couple shifted buttons for āconvenienceā functions. If you want, I can send you a keyfile extract where it all happens.
Congratulations by the way on scoring what has turned out to be a real bargain!

Here it is. Copy this to the very end of your preferred BMS.key file and reload the key file in Setup/Controllers. If you prefer, PM me an email and Iāll send you the text file (might be easier to work with). If all else fails, perhaps meet you on TS and talk you through itā¦
Remember the shifted functions are purely personal preference - you can assign pretty much anything you want where you want it once you understand the ācodeā.
EDIT - FORGOT TO ADD I have since changed this to use CMS LEFT to be a Push to Talk for VAC! Sorry!
# Unshifted (DX0 - DX16 and DX18 - DX27) use full DX programming as per the BMS default. # Shifted (Pinky Held more than 0.25 seconds) are convenience assignments. # Remember - in Setup, the button press reported will be +1 to what is stated here. # # This assignment list assumes "... Same here. Pure DX aside from a few keystrokes to reset TIR, start recording etc.
-
I use the Warthog CMS->dwn as a shift button, as it has no assignment in RL Viper HOTAS. This way I can assign all of the other buttons as realistically as possible and maintain.
-
So once Iāve downloaded Duncās profile into the Cougar using Foxy, can I manage the button assignments directly in the BMS key file by associating he desired callback with the DX button number (or number + 256 for the shifted functions)?
Is it normal for the TQS to make clacking or clunking noises as it goes through the lower and upper idents?
Also Iāve noticed that when I pull back the throttle, it seems to spike to full power right before the very end.
I assume itās a pot needing cleaning or replacing? -
Clacking noises are normal for the detents. Spiking to full power not so much.
