Horrible - to a new player!
Ok i’m probably going to get flamed for this but whatever i need to vent!
I’m not a “falcon-vet” as many here are, i’m completely new to this plane. Obviously i understand that the main goal of BMS probably isn’t to get fresh pilots drawn into the F16, rather to collect the remains of pilots scattered across all the different falcon versions.
Now i’m probably going to get told to RTFM (Read the fucking manual) - no, i’m sorry but that doesn’t work for me - i wish it did but i simply can’t sit down and read for hours and hours upon end, i keep forgetting everything i just read within minutes… Reason for that is i’m not understanding what the heck i’m actually reading.
This was also a problem for me in DCS A10. I was then forced to wait untill the community had made some youtube videos explaining how to do stuff, this worked but was very inconvinient having to alt-tab 5000 times during a play session.
Eventually though i got the hand of it and i’m now mastering most of the plane’s capabilities thanks to an awesome community, AND the video tutorials given to the player.
Now my biggest gripe with BMS’s tutorials is the fact that it simply zooms you in on a general area where the button you need to press is located, it’s not highlighted in any way shape or form, making the process tedious. Aswell as the text being way too small for my eyes.
And for fuck’s sake what’s with the mouse in-cockpit? It sticks to everything, making it CLUMSY!I’ve tried several different tutorials, such as for example AIM-9 & Maveric one where i’m not even told how to select my missiles, operate the TGP etc etc… Let alone what buttons needs pressing prior to locking up a target… There is just so much information missing which PROBABLY is in the manual… Shame i can’t read them withouth having way more ??? then before starting to read.
I would pay someone a hefty amount of $$ for a complete overhaul of the tutorials. Making them in-game & understandable for new players! Preferably with voice-overs.
Think it’s best i just retreat to A10 and leave this to the pro’s.
Thanks for reading and probably laughing at me
PS Congratulations on the release guys!

RTFM
I suggest you to start with the “original” F4 manual and keep building on that knowledge with the SP3 manual later on. But it is true that new doc(SPx/BMSx) that make part of the old one obsolete doesn’t make life easier for beginners.

.
My guess you have to wait only a bit and other players make tutorial videos for free. I do not know every speciality of BMS4, but my guess most of basic avionics are the same as in OpenFalcon4. Maybe there are some on Youtube.
I made lots of video for FreeFalcon. The basics of game are more or less same in FF and BMS too, but BMS avioncis is more detailed. Maybe it is worth to check them at least once. Currently I do not have time to make OF tutorial videos especially that I’m not a master in BMS adavanced avionics.

While i do appreciate user-made tutorials on youtube, and understand that it does take a workload of the developers back - it’s simply not “noob-friendly” enough having to go scavenge whatever info is around on the web. This is something that should be in the base game, and be presented in a way new players can learn and understand. I can’t for the life of me get my friends who’s sorta into flight sims to pick this game up based on watching me trying to do a ramp start… lol it’s just too clumsy of a system the way it is now.
I know this is a freeware mod but to whoever it is that is responsible for making the tutorials i’m willing to pay you, say 50$ per tutorial or whatever! I’m really keen on learning this lol

Well, 30-40 training missions x $50, that’s $1500-$2000. If you don’t mind paying in advance, I’m your man (and then I disappear). Or just learn to read the basis, as everyone did here.

Have you tried to get into a virtual squadron? That’s the best way to learn and it’s much more fun even if the dynamic campaign is already great in solo.

ideally no virtual squadron would wanna get involved with training an individual who doesn’t want to sit and read documents.

I beg to differ. Many of us have learned falcon without sitting down and reading these manuals. Rather we experiment a lot, talk to our peers and use the manuals as a reference rather than a walkthrough on how to do things.
I think, there are at least some squadrons online willing to help you out, if you can’t find any, PM me and we could talk. Our squad might be looking for a new recruit, if you have the motivation to learn :). I myself never studied the manuals that much but I’m still doing pretty ok. Different people learn in different ways, and I believe I know exactly what you are facing here. Read one page, forget the last :).

i said ideally for a reason. if you do not fall into norms then that’s your own biz. but no one in his right mind would be willing to spoonfeed this much info to any slacker.

Hopefully i didn’t come off as a lazy sob - if my brain was actually capable of comprehending the massive amounts of acronyms and data i would be reading this manual to the very end. But it’s like you say, i can read a page, then try and think over what i just read and POOF it’s all gone. This is also why i sucked in school, i can’t focus for very long unless it’s presented in a “retard-proof” way
@Spyhawk, i’d probably pay for 2-3 tutorials in advance Don’t need all 50 at once as i’m probably going to use weeks to just master one of them
If it’s something the devs would consider i don’t mind paying out my own pocket, as it would probably bring new players in and benefit the community as a whole

The BMS script has been there since BMS2, but noone had created (except Naldo) the training scripts for all mission, the goal for those scrips is now show how do something with your plane (except ramps start) the goal of all those script is show to the public the posibility of create tutorias with scripts.
I created those script to show that, I didn´t create more deep or better script because my english level, of corse , I could create those script in spanish and you can translate to english if you want to, or even better you can learn how create scripts with the BMS documentation and make it better.Just my 2cents

This is a sim, and requires a certain amount of learning in order to operate it, effectively. How much learning? About a university degree’s worth…
This sim is not for everyone, and it’s certainly not for the casual user. BMS 4.32 was not intended to teach people from the ground up. It’s an add-on to Falcon 4.0. That manual does take you from the ground up.
You need to invest time to learn, including reading, watching youtube videos, etc. That’s just the way it is.

Hey! I understand, thanks for the work done though! Obviously i’m not going to dwell into how-to-make scripts as that’s beyond my skill level.
I can tell my idea don’t sit well with some here so i’m going to back off and head back to DCS.
Fly safe guys

That’s disappointing, but if you are not into flying the best simulated combat jet in the virtual world that is your loss. The falcon community has been around a long time and does not accept second best and has a ‘take no prisoner attitude’ regarding training (lots of it) and not reading manuals. Even the new fight modeling is way above what Open Falcon used to be.
cheers

Start with the first mission, the -00- RAMP START.
It will take you step-by-step into starting your engine with all the checklists already built in.
It explains each and every acronym, button, switch and system for a newbie.
I created it exactly for your kind of people, those who see Falcon sim for the very first time.
The other training scripts are not that detailed.
Maybe I will raise them to the same level as the ramp start script (given time…) -

Maybe I will raise them to the same level as the ramp start script (given time…)I’ve done that tutorial now perhaps 5 times and i’ve yet to complete it due to issues finding the buttons described. I would give my left arm for highlighting what needs to be pressed.
I know very well that ‘hitting the books’ is the “only” viable way of ever learning, it’s just my first ever hardcore flight sim is the DCS A10 and whilst the in-game tutorials given there were for peoples who had a general understanding of how things work, and the different acronyms etc i still managed to learn a thing or two. Guess i’ve been spoiled with having a voice that walks me through things
I would’ve loved to sit down and be able to read through the manual, but it doesn’t work for me i’ve tried it time and time again. Even printed out the whole manaual for A10 but my brain doesn’t consume the stuff i readI don’t even like the A10 that much, it’s just i was drawn in by the sheer complexity and the awesome feeling when you learnt something new.

Oh yeah!
When BMS launcher is runnig … click “Documentation” … ALL checklist are included !

+10 000!!!
Just wait a little for YouTubes videos tutorials.
