Realistic NVG mask and noise
-
I wouldn’t expect to do something else than A/G tasks with such device on the head … (?)
-
NVG’s with HMCS displayed inside exist now, and are used in F-16 ;).
Similar to PNVG model.https://media.defense.gov/2006/Mar/16/2000565452/780/780/0/060306-F-2907C-001.JPG
Actually it’s not displayed inside the NVG but a small add-on in front of the NVG.
And Scorpion is in testing too. Which will similar to what Warthog & Apache drivers have visually (mini HUD in front of the right eye), but of course different software. Then NVG’s will be placed in front of the Scorpion display (other way around of the current situation). -
Thanks for your creative work.It looks like a useful design.

EDIT: Disregard. See post #15
I am not sure … but I would say that left and right should also be totally opaque above the yellow line:
… but to be sure, on Monday I will take my NGVs and check that thing. Will report … on Monday.
EDIT: If results are good, maybe (?) if you are okay to offer your mod to the team, we could add it in stock install and set it under BMS Configuration in the Mod section.

I’ll be very proud of it!

Not totally opaque. You can still get some peripheral vision if you look that way with your eyes and focus outside the display. The closer you get to focusing on the NOG view though the more it washes out your natural vision. So maybe totally opaque right around the circle, then a slight lessening at you get more toward the peripheral areas.
Yep why not … Will check it.

Might be better to handle that with code than F4Patch. I will PM Dunc about that.

I have my 2 cents about that. I thinks it’s possible using only 1 mask for all resolution.
If you put the mask in the upper center of the screen (blue line ) you can use infinite monitor resolutions (red lines) with the same mask.

I like the idea of using only 1 mask for all situation, but it should be adjusted according to FOV, not screen resolution. The circle should be big enough to show NVG FOV of approximately 40 degrees. The monitor is limited enough that I see no point of having to see less than the actual NVG IRL.
-
It’s going to be done with shaders anyway, solving all those textures/resolutions/FOV issues once and for all.

I’ve just had a look … I do confirm, 100% as MorteSil said. Just a bit of opacity aground the black circle could be nice.

I tried my hand on the NVG mask myself, based on FOV 40 and the pic that a pilot took of ANVS-9 from his squadron below (he posted on DCS forum years ago.
The result like this (FOV80@16:9 aspect ratio):
Here is the source image, but it’s needed to be cropped according to FOV and aspect ratio, and then convert to DDS file:
Feel free to do anything with it.
It’s 1200x1200. The center of NVG circle is at 600x500. Each 10 pixels represented 1 degree of FOV. So FOV 80@16:9 aspect ratio would be cropped to 800x450, centered on the center point of NVG circle.

Not want to hijack beppe’s thread. Se here: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?33212-Another-NVG-mod-with-realistic-FOV-based-on-ANVS-9

Yeah … on this one we clearly see what I mean => blurry circle.

I’ve tried it again with 4.34, it works well! I’m sure nothing has changed from previous iteration.
