-Ice's Falcon BMS Helios Profile Updated… Again!
-
Wicked, I went past Goose’s" grave Saturday after a service for a friend. Seeing that you still have one of “his girls” is still a nice touch.
-
Wicked, could you help me with my Ice Profile questions? Maps don’t work, even after the Monitor 1 - Monitor 2 fix. And, UHF radio digits disappear when turning rotary dials.
I have done some very basic Helios profile tweaks before, but these issues have be stumped.
Best regards,
Wangler

The map is part of YAME and not Helios. You will need to make sure it has the right coordinates for your second monitor. If you are using the CPD the Map will need to be at the coordinates inside the CPD bezel to show up. That is on the 16S profile, so if you are using a different one I would switch to the latest profile. As far as the UHF radio issue I’ll have to see if mine is doing the same thing. I know that my backup TACAN rotary’s have to be changed in the jet and don’t work with the profile. However, I’m sure if that is a keyboard issue or Helios. I’ll check now.

Unfortunately I haven’t resized her so only part shows. I still have the other he made for me after Texas won the Rose Bowl as well. I was lucky to get one from him. They were rare…

Wicked, thanks for checking.
I am using Ice’s BMS 4.33 v4.21s profile. I think that is the latest one from the blog. I saw Ice’s Member info showed <banned>but i thought it was a joke….guess not!
I guess what I mean with the maps is the approach maps…I can get the default maps to show for each airbase button press, but cannot pull up any of the approach charts. and, on the large Korea sectional, clicking anywhere just doesn’t work to pull up the zoom in views. I will check my TACAN, see if it is doing the same thing. I should say that I have checked my .hpf file, and screen callouts are correct, and it appears the functions to make UHF work are in there, based upon my limited knowledge.
Best regards!</banned>

Hi Wicked,
Thank you for your response. I am adding a switch to Ice’s latest profile (Helios) that is taking the plane from cold state to ready to taxi. The first step is to turn on all the necessary switches to bring the engine to a start, and the second step is from engine start to ready to taxi. I am almost there.

That is the latest profile but for whatever reason I went back to the 16S profile and have had no issues. I would download and try it. You don’t have to get rid of the 21S profile just switch between the two. I’ve been flying DCS with my Rift the last few weeks so I’ve not had time to experiment. That and YAME is now FUBAR on my system. Go to this link and get the graphics and profile to try. http://ihpff4bms.blogspot.co.uk/2017/03/bms-helios-profile-updated-again.html

You’re welcome sir. Question. What’s the reason for abbreviating the ramp start? It only takes maybe 7 mins max to do it. Just curious.

Wicked, thanks! I was taking a bit of a break from DCS to get my feet wet in BMS. I will try the 16S version.
Lots of nice HELIOS profiles for DCS. How have you liked the Rift? I have flown once in DCS with my Windows Mixed Reality headset, and it was incredible. The Viggen looks great in VR.
However, I don’t like the loss of visual acuity, and I like my HELIOS setups. Which do you prefer, Helios or VR?

I like the Rift for the immersion better than the touch panel. Also, I use the 2.5 Open Beta and finally gave up on the exporting the gauges when I got the Rift. I spent several days trying to set up the A10C (which is boring anyway being so slow) I finally walked away. I don’t totally mind the lack of visual clarity, that being said I’m getting the GTX1080ti. Flying the Mirage in VR is epic.

What issues are you having with exports? My exports transferred seamlessly from 1.5 and 2.0 to 2.5, for all aircraft I typically fly. Let me know if I can help. not good with Helios, but I can try.

Yeah, 4.16s did the same thing…something wrong with my setup, or the way I have adjusted the key. Oh, well, still works 90%.

I only had the L39 exported with 1.5 and really didn’t have to do anything other than copy and paste the files for the profile and images to Helios if I remember right. I didn’t get the A10C until 2.5 and that’s when I tried getting it set up. The problem is there isn’t a single thread on the DCS boards that has an up to date explanation so it’s a long nightmare of searching threads trying to figure what is working in 2.5. But if you know how to do it I’m all ears lol. I know the init.lua’s for all the gauges need to be modified as well as the export.lua and monitor setup which I’m well familiar with but there are different versions of the init.lua and where it should be placed.

If I remember from setting up, the gauge *init.lua’s, the monitor.config, and the export.lua is all that is needed. When I get a chance, I will post a link to my init.lua’s, which I have in a OVGME format, and my monitor file for you to tweak. Of course, all my stuff is really the work of others, just tweaked.

I found this. It may answer your question…

Thanks, I tried most of those things, no joy. Did any of the stuff I sent help with your setup?

I stopped messing with it. I picked up a 1080ti and won’t be going back to 2d with DCS. VR only from here on out.

Hi Ice,
I’m a complete newbie to BMS so I have a few questions after reading your thread and looking for some general guidance. I will be getting a 55" HDMI TV for outside view and am not sure the best size for touchscreen/ I Like you single screen setup and assume that they buttons on the lower right part of the panel allow you to pull up the various panels, eg. left side console, right side console, maps, etc. I think I saw your setup on Youtube. So that would be my intention. I know nothing about helios or yame and haven’t got a clue as to setting up this kind of system. I will have a dedicated computer that will run BMS and Elite Dangerous and am ok in that area for gaming specs. Is it better to run win 7 64 bit or win 10 64 bit? Anuy advice would be greatly appreciated.

All of Ice’s Helios profiles are for 1920 x 1080. The smallest touch panel I would get if your going to run 16S or 21S is a 23". I have a 23" and a 27" but I’ve been running the 23" with my 50" 4KUHD TV. I’d rather use the 27" and did for a long time but because of positioning TrackIR the 23" works better. You want to have the touch panel directly in front of you and then the TV. If you put the TrackIR on the touch panel, you can’t lean forward to see the main screen better without the TIR loosing track. You’ll have to put it on the top of the TV for best performance. With a 27", it’s more difficult to sit close to both without your knees hitting the monitor. As to 7 or 10? I’m running 10 because unfortunately Windows will shortly not support 7. This was a serious issue a few months back as the windows updates kept breaking YAME. Recently, this has been fixed.
