4.34 Poor FPS Performance
-
I’ve tried countless combinations of settings in the game graphics settings, the launcher configuration settings, and the nvidia control panel, but my framerate constantly hangs around the low 30s.
Task manager shows BMS to be using near 100% of the GPU from the moment I enter the BMS main menu.
Specs:
Windows 10 Professional
CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x 3.7GHZ
RAM: 16GB
GPU: GTX 1080
Hard Drive: NVMe SSD -
This is not logical with an 1080. What driver do you use?
-
Maybe running in (borderless) window mode?
1080 is kinda overkill for BMS. So: FPS expecting FPS (at least) in the 60ies. -
Using the latest NVIDIA driver. I am running in Borderless mode.
You’re suggesting I try running in fullscreen mode? I’ll give that a try when I get home. -
Update: windowed vs fullscreen makes no difference
-
are you using gsync/freesync?
-
no
-
ok - odd
-
I get 60fps as with 4.33 but it stutters.
4.33 would stutter without the right combination of nvidia settings but they don’t work in 4.34 for me so far.
Need to keep experimenting.

Strange pure butter in my 980ti and fps is better than 4.33.
I even went to multisampling 3 from 2.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T818A using Tapatalk

Try using Framerate limit (set to your exact monitor refresh rate) in RTSS (Riva Tuner Statistics Server), I’ve found it works better at smoothing out the display and eliminating/reducing stutters.

Here with 1080 and 417.35 Version driver I’m getting around 90-100fps with all the detail sliders on max, maybe you should try an older driver.
-Edit tried latest driver for a test (425.32) and have same fps. -
Use nvidia inspector to limit your framerate. Also check in the settings if you are using your nvidia card and not the internal one.
All that said I’m experiencing issues with my gtx 1060: it’s load is extreme with any settings right now. It’s almost constantly under 100% percent load and it’s temperature is crazy, which leads to throttling every few minutes. This doesn’t occur with anything else and didn’t happen with 4.33.

Try this:
- Open \falcon_bms_4.34\User\Config*falcon bms.cfg* into Notepad.
- Change the “set g_bExportRTTTextures” setting from 1 to 0.
- Save the file and try BMS again.

Shouldn’t make any difference in 4.34. See here: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?23833-ff-you-could-have-one-thing-in-the-next-update-it-would-be&p=494551&viewfull=1#post494551

Go to your nvidia settings,
Manage 3D settings
Program settings
set up profile for bms 4.34
be sure to point it at the falcom bms.exe
under Power Management Mode set to prefer maxium performancefull details on forum.

Older video driver made no difference. I’ll give a framerate limiter a try shortly, though I’ve never seen my framerate even get above 40, so not sure that will make a difference.
I ended up installing 4.33 to see if I had the same issue, and I did. If I remember correctly, the last time I played BMS, I was using an intel CPU, although I had the same graphics card. I’m wondering if this is somehow related to using an AMD CPU…

Is your monitor plugged into your motherboard or graphics card?

Graphics card. I do not have onboard graphics.
…
Also: Framerate limiter made no difference.

How old is your CPU? Falcon has always demanded more from the CPU than the graphics card.
